Louis kept the phone to his ear as they walked out of the stairwell.
She walked silently beside him as Sophie listened to him speak with whoever was on the phone. Just from listening, she could already tell how the conversation was going because she could read his silence as well as his words.
When he ended the call and looked at her, she was looking at him with rapt attention.
"What did he say?” she asked.
"Well, Franco was released six weeks ago."
Sophie was quiet.
"He completed his sentence," Louis continued. "He did his full term, he wasn't released early. The PI says he walked out six weeks ago and dropped off every record since. He has no registered address or check-ins. Nothing."
"Six weeks ago," she repeated.
