The journey back to the Blackwood Pack was slow.

Damon refused to let Elena walk the entire distance after everything she had endured.

"You should rest," he said as they paused beside a quiet stream.

"I can walk," Elena replied, avoiding his eyes.

"I know you can."

"But you're carrying our child."

The words hung in the air.

For the first time, Damon openly acknowledged the baby as his own.

Elena instinctively placed a hand over her stomach.

She wanted to believe him.

She wanted to believe that everything he had confessed in the forest was true.

But the pain of the rejection still lingered in her heart.

"We've sent scouts ahead."

"Any news?" Damon asked.

Elena overheard the conversation.

"You're taking me back there?"

She stopped walking.

"The Blackwood Pack is the last place I want to see."

"I understand."

"But right now, it's the safest place for you."

"The place where I was rejected is supposed to make me feel safe?"

Damon had no answer.

Ryan looked away, knowing Elena had every right to feel that way.

"I won't force you."

"But if Selene attacks again while we're on the road, I may not be able to protect you."

Elena closed her eyes.

She hated that he was right.

After a long silence, she nodded.

Selene stood in the grand hall, surrounded by pack members.

"Yes."

She ran her fingers across its carved wooden armrest.

"The entire pack watched Elena leave in shame."

She sat down gracefully.

"They'll watch her break all over again."

The wolves standing nearby exchanged uneasy glances.

No one dared question her.

For months, Selene had ruled the mansion as though she were already Luna.

Many feared her more than they respected her.

"I kept it because it reminded me of what I lost."

Elena carefully picked it up.

Her fingers trembled as memories flooded back.

Damon wanted to wipe it away.

The scout's face turned pale.

"They're crowning Selene as the future Luna..."

"...at sunrise."

Silence swept through the camp.

Elena's grip tightened around the bracelet.

If Selene became Luna before the truth came out...

Everything Damon had sacrificed would have been for nothing.
