# Chapter 5: The Hunt Begins Elena's heart pounded against her chest. The hooded man's cold smile sent a chill down her spine. "Our Alpha wants you alive." "I don't know who you're talking about," Elena replied, forcing herself to remain calm. The man chuckled. "You'll find out soon enough." Before he could take another step, Elena turned and ran. Her feet pounded against the cobblestone street as panic surged through her veins. "I have to protect my baby." The narrow alley twisted into another street, but the sound of footsteps followed close behind. "Stop running!" the stranger shouted. Elena ignored him. She raced toward the bakery, hoping someone would still be there. Just as she reached the back entrance, the door swung open. "Elena?" Mrs. Margaret gasped. "What's wrong?" "Someone... is chasing me!" Mrs. Margaret quickly pulled her inside and slammed the door shut. The hooded man stopped outside, his eyes narrowing. He glanced around before disappearing into the darkness. --- Inside the bakery... Mrs. Margaret locked every door and closed the curtains. "Sit down, child." Elena's hands trembled as she explained what had happened. Mrs. Margaret listened quietly, her face growing serious. "I've lived in this town for thirty years," she said. "I've never heard of anyone being hunted like this." "I thought I had escaped my past." Mrs. Margaret gently squeezed her hand. "Sometimes the past has a way of finding us. But you're not alone anymore." Elena felt tears sting her eyes. For the first time since arriving in town, someone truly cared about her. --- Miles away... The hooded man knelt before a tall figure seated on a throne carved from black oak. The Alpha's face remained hidden in the shadows. "I failed," the man admitted. "She escaped." Silence filled the room. Then the Alpha spoke. "She cannot disappear again." "Should we search the neighboring towns?" The Alpha slowly rose to his feet. "Yes." His crimson eyes glowed in the darkness. "And this time... bring her to me unharmed." --- Back at Blackwood Pack... Beta Ryan entered Damon's office carrying a sealed letter. "It was delivered anonymously." Damon broke the seal. Inside was only one sentence. **She's closer than you think.** His wolf instantly became restless. "Prepare the car," Damon ordered. Ryan looked surprised. "Did you find a lead?" Damon folded the letter, his silver eyes hardening with determination. "No." "But for the first time..." "I have hope." As thunder rumbled across the night sky, three different paths began moving toward the same destination. None of them knew... Elena's greatest secret was growing stronger with every passing day. **End of Chapter 5**
