# Chapter 6: A Familiar Scent
The storm raged throughout the night.
Rain hammered against the bakery windows as Elena lay awake in her small apartment above the shop.
No matter how hard she tried to sleep, the hooded man's words echoed in her mind.
**"Our Alpha wants you alive."**
Who was he?
And why was someone searching for her?
She wrapped an arm protectively around her stomach.
"I won't let anyone take you away from me," she whispered.
A sudden kick answered her.
Elena smiled through her tears.
"You already know your mama is scared, don't you?"
---
The next morning...
Mrs. Margaret insisted Elena stay inside.
"You've been through enough. I'll manage the bakery for today."
"I can't hide forever," Elena replied gently.
"You don't have to hide," Mrs. Margaret said. "Just be careful."
Elena nodded before helping prepare the morning bread.
As customers came and went, she slowly relaxed.
Maybe last night's attack had been a coincidence.
Maybe...
The stranger had already left town.
The bell above the bakery door chimed.
A tall man stepped inside.
He wore a dark coat, his face partially hidden beneath the hood, but unlike the man from the alley, his presence felt strangely... familiar.
Elena looked up.
The moment their eyes met, a strange ache spread through her chest.
The man froze.
His wolf stirred.
**Mate...**
He frowned, confused.
"No..." he muttered under his breath.
Elena quickly looked away, pretending to arrange loaves of bread.
Her own heart wouldn't stop racing.
Why did this stranger's scent feel so familiar?
Before either of them could speak...
The man quietly bought a loaf of bread and left.
Neither of them noticed the pair of golden eyes watching from across the street.
---
Later that afternoon...
The hooded spy returned to the mysterious Alpha's estate.
"I found her."
The Alpha slowly stood.
"Where?"
"In a small town east of Blackwood territory."
A cruel smile appeared on the Alpha's lips.
"Good."
"Prepare everyone."
"This hunt ends tonight."
---
At Blackwood Pack...
Beta Ryan rushed into Damon's office.
"Alpha!"
Damon looked up.
"What is it?"
"We've finally found a lead."
Ryan placed a map on the desk and pointed to a small town.
"A traveler reported seeing a woman matching Elena's description working in a bakery."
Damon stared at the map.
His heart pounded.
Without another word, he grabbed his coat.
"Get the car ready."
Ryan smiled.
"Right away, Alpha."
As Damon stepped outside, his wolf growled with anticipation.
**She's alive...**
**And this time... I'm bringing her home.**
