# Chapter 3: A New Beginning The first rays of sunlight slipped through the hospital curtains, casting a warm glow across the quiet room. Elena slowly opened her eyes. For a moment, everything felt peaceful. Then the memories came rushing back. The rejection. The humiliation. The broken mate bond. And the tiny life growing inside her. She instinctively placed both hands over her stomach, her eyes filling with tears. "I don't know what the future holds for us," she whispered softly. "But I promise I'll never let anyone hurt you." A gentle knock sounded on the door. "Come in." The doctor entered with a kind smile. "Good morning, Miss Ashwood. How are you feeling today?" "A little better." "I'm happy to hear that." He handed her a small paper bag. "These are your prenatal vitamins and medical reports. Both you and your baby are healthy, but you'll need plenty of rest and nutritious meals." Elena forced a smile. "I'll do my best." Before leaving, the doctor paused. "Whatever you're going through, don't lose hope. Your child will need a strong mother." His words stayed with her long after he had left. After changing into her clothes, Elena walked out of the hospital. The morning air was cool, carrying the scent of fresh rain. She looked around the unfamiliar town. No one knew who she was. No one knew she had been rejected by the most powerful Alpha in the region. For the first time in years... She felt free. But freedom came with another problem. She had almost no money. Opening her wallet, she counted the few bills inside. "This won't even last a week." She sighed. "I need a job." With no destination in mind, Elena wandered through the streets until the smell of freshly baked bread drifted through the air. Her stomach growled. She realized she hadn't eaten since yesterday. Following the delicious scent, she stopped outside a cozy little bakery. A handwritten sign hung on the window. **HELP WANTED** Taking a deep breath, she stepped inside. The bakery was warm and inviting. Shelves overflowed with fresh bread, cakes, and pastries. Behind the counter stood a middle-aged woman arranging loaves into baskets. She looked up and smiled kindly. "Good morning, dear. Can I help you?" "I saw the sign outside." The woman nodded. "Looking for work?" "Yes." "I've worked in kitchens before, and I'm willing to learn anything." The woman studied Elena's tired face for a moment. There was sadness in her eyes. But there was also determination. "My name is Martha." "I'm Elena." Martha extended her hand. "Well then, Elena... welcome to Moonlight Bakery." Elena blinked. "You're hiring me?" Martha laughed softly. "I've learned to trust my instincts." Tears threatened to spill from Elena's eyes. "Thank you." "Don't thank me yet," Martha teased. "You'll be waking up before sunrise every day." For the first time since the rejection... Elena laughed. A genuine laugh. Martha showed her around the bakery, introducing her to the small kitchen and storage room. "The apartment upstairs is empty," Martha said casually. "If you don't have anywhere to stay, you can rent it for a small amount each month." Elena froze. "You'd really do that for me?" "You remind me of my daughter." Martha's smile softened. "Everyone deserves a second chance." Elena could no longer hold back her tears. She hugged the older woman tightly. "Thank you... so much." That evening, Elena moved into the tiny apartment above the bakery. It wasn't luxurious. There was only a small bed, a kitchen, and one little window overlooking the street. But to Elena... It felt like home. She unpacked her few belongings and carefully placed the hospital ultrasound picture on the bedside table. Resting a hand over her stomach, she smiled. "We have a home now." "We're going to be alright." Miles away, inside the Silver Moon Pack mansion, Alpha Damon stood alone on the balcony. The moon had risen high above the trees. For some reason, he couldn't sleep. Every time he closed his eyes... He saw Elena walking away in the pouring rain. His wolf growled uneasily. *"Find her."* "No." *"She needs us."* "I made my decision." His wolf fell silent. But the strange ache inside his chest refused to disappear. Damon stared into the darkness, unaware that the woman he had rejected was beginning a new life... And carrying the hidden heir who would one day change both of their destinies forever. **End of Chapter 3**
