Chapter Two Georgia's POV I tapped my fingers continuously on the chair's padding as impatience ate at me from inside out, although I was in a cold room, yet my palms were sweaty from the pressure I felt. At last after an hour and thirty minutes, the doctor came in with a test report in her hands. “Mrs. King, here are your test results. Congratulations, you are pregnant.” I was so caught up in the writings on the paper that I blanked out the voice of the doctor from my ears. ‘Positive’ was written in bold green letters and the growth duration has already passed two months but still, I couldn't believe a bit of it “Take the test again.” I returned the paper to her. “I beg your pardon?” The doctor's face twisted in confusion and disbelief. I couldn't blame her, I was even more confused myself. “Take the damn test again,” I repeated. “I believe something's wrong somewhere. Hello?” Yet, she still stood like a petrified figure. “Oh, right. I'll need a few more minutes.” With that, she vanished behind the door. My head rammed with mixed feelings, wanting to believe that what I saw in the test was real. I could only wait until the doctor returned with a confirmation result. “That's right. You have a life-form growing in you if that's what you mean. I'm concerned, is there a problem?” The doctor had put a straight face on when she returned. ‘Positive’ again. The test was indeed correct . Yes! I am pregnant. My body shook uncontrollably and tears of joy stabbed at my eyes. At last, I was going to save my marriage from crashing headlong. “Not at all, I was just overwhelmed. You know, for the first time preparing for motherhood, you get what I mean.” I flashed a sheepish grin while heading for the door, not wanting to be charged and bombarded with therapy questions. My driving back home didn't sit right with other drivers on the road. My sharp swerves in traffic and overtakes earned curses and swearing but I was too overjoyed to be concerned. ‘I’m pregnant’ kept drumming like a beat in my head. I took out my phone to call Kingsley to share the good news to him but I couldn't reach him no matter how much I rang his phone. I was going a hundred and fifty kilometers per hour and failed to notice a car coming onto the highway via a sub road. Luckily for me, I barely missed crashing into the car, only scratching off the bumper. "Sorry!!” Right, I'll get my car fixed when I have the chance to hear out again. I got back home in half the time it would have taken me to get back on normal days, King's car was already parked in the driveway, telling off he was home not long ago. ‘Why didn't he pick his calls?’ I wondered as I alighted my car and walked into the house. There he was in front of the TV in the living room, completely immersed in the video game he was playing, not even my presence was noticed. I heard him speak to no one in view, I looked around cautiously. I only relaxed slightly when I saw the headphones over his ears. Nervous, I sucked in a deep breath and exhaled real slow. Countless possibilities of how he would react to the news of my pregnancy all played in less than a second. I simply prayed for the best outcome, happy and relaxed. “Hey, Honey.” I tapped on his shoulder but he didn't react. It was only when I tapped a bit harder that he jumped in surprise, raising one side of the headphone off his ear. “Goddamnit. Oh, Geo. You're back.” And he returned to his gaming, causing the words to get stuck in my throat— The hell? Pain shot from my head through my heart like a bullet. I got fed-up and yanked off the headset off him and it miraculously worked, a cold murderous glare focused on me. “What the f**k was that for? Can't you see I was in a game? Are we going to add blind to the list? Give that back!” His reaction was expected, so I returned it to him and spoke as I got the chance. “I am sorry. I just wanted to get your attention, there's something you need to know.” “I'll be back, blokes. Gotta answer to the missus,” He grumbled into the little microphone before returning to me. “Seems it worked out and now you have my attention. What is it and make it quick.” I swallowed the lump growing in my throat and announced. “King, I'm pregnant.” I expected possibility 246 but possibility 689 played out instead. Kingsley did not react, he just stared at me like I was a fool. He let out a low chuckle. “Say what? Is this some kind of joke you came up with? Nice one.” “I'm f*****g serious, King. Here.” I held up the test results in his face which he took. His face grew pale as he went through the results. “No kidding. You're pregnant?” He took his eyes off the paper. I nodded, growing wary. I might have expected this much reaction from him but the ominous aura emanating from him was very unexpected. I cautiously took a step back, away from him. “So it's true.” He gently placed the headset in his hand on the sofa. “What's true?”. “You've been cheating on me, you damn b***h!” I wasn't slapped physically but I felt the same impact on my ego when those words escaped his lips. Me? Cheat on him? “What?! I cheated on you? How? When?” Wrongly accused, I struggled to fight the tears back. For the four years we've been together as man and wife, I had never opened my legs for another man, not to talk of being touched by one but here I was, accused of cheating to the face. “Trying to play dumb, huh? It's obvious. It's sad you don't know. You walked right into the trap.” King began to laugh like someone possessed by a demon. “What?” My muscles began to melt, I almost fell to the ground in shock. “Take a seat. Let me lecture you properly, Love.” He gestured to the sofa behind me, while he sat down across the living room. I chose to stand in the middle of the room where I was, so he continued regardless. “You see, sometime ago, I had a condition. I was going to be sterile. You might ask how, I'll explain. I have a genetic disorder that automatically disables your reproductive ability, the ability to get a woman pregnant once you've clocked twenty nine. I don't know the cause but it happens to all the males in our family.” I wanted to speak but no words came out. He wasn't done yet. “We've been married for four years and you were unable to conceive during that period, correct?” “Oh come on, answer me when I ask you a question!” Shaken, I nodded frantically. “I have some questions for you, answer them as genuinely as possible, okay?” I nodded again. “How old was I when we got married?” I stuttered. “Twe…twenty seven?” “Good. How old am I now?” A sly smile played on his lips. “Thirty.” My eyes slowly widened at the new piece of information. I was hearing this after all those years? By now, the tears I had struggled to hold back, leaked and rolled down my face. “Ah, I see you understand now. I'll go on with the lecture. I realized I was reaching a dead end and I lost the chance to have a child of my genes and blood, so I saved myself. No offense to you but I had to do what I had to do as a man. Things happened and about a year ago I found a girl that was suitable to carry my child and she is, of course, carrying it as we speak.” His eyes darkened into a deeper shade. “You might have met her already. Now, you are pregnant with a child, obviously not mine and thus the fact, your cheating crime.” Frustrated badly, I revolted. “Oh, f**k you, King. I thought you were the man I thought you were but it's all a disappointment now, isn't it?” I bit my lips so hard that I tasted my blood. “The vows we took, the games we played thinking it was love but it turned out I was being played in your games.” “Watch where you tread now.” King growled a warning, I might have sprinkled some salt on his pride. I was no longer afraid, I was now mad and vibrating in the pain of betrayal. “I loved you with everything I had, even throwing away my birthright just to settle with…you. I lost everything just to start a life with you and what do you repay me with? Lies and more lies. I must confess, your lies has f****d me harder than you have.” “You are talking too much, woman. I am nearing my limits.” Right, I had wounded his pride with the truth. “Oh, you're hurt now? I spoke too much? I'm so sorry for not being sorry, you jerk!” I lost my cool and screamed the last sentence. “I am warning you. Don't push your luck, Georgia” In quick strides, Kingsley closed the distance between us and was towering over me, literally flaring in anger. “Where's the lie, Kingsley? You want to beat the hell out of me? Go ahead, you've given worse to me,” I pushed into him, squaring to his eyes. “Do your worst, Kingsley.” Without warning, he slapped me across the face so hard that I saw the stars and the Milky Way. I was thrown off balance and I tripped slamming hard on the ground with my belly first, followed by my head. My consciousness was fading rather quickly. I felt something warm trickle down my face and touched it, it was my blood. ‘Fuck.’ “Oh, s**t! Georgia! Can you hear me? Georgia!”
