The Warning

I began to feel myself begin to hyperventilate. I didn't know what to do, what to say about one of our greatest warriors on the floor of my bedroom knocked out and probably dead. I didn't know what to say about the raven who had turned into a snake and possibly killed the fallen angel at my feet. I didn't know how to explain that my entire life almost changed after he tried to force himself on me. I didn't know what to say about the voice in my head that I was craving at the moment. I didn't know what to say at all. "Just a second!" I yelled to whoever was at the door. I fixed my skirt, and checked my makeup quickly before picking up Maverik's arms and dragging him to the bathroom and into the tub. How I got him into the tub was something my adrenaline could explain. Once I was done and covered the shower, I straightened my clothes, checked on the bird or snake or whatever it was and moved over to the doorway. "Kayla?" I heard again. Taking one last look at my room, I opened the door. It was Gideon. Of all people. "Are you ok? I thought I heard noises from downstairs." I shrugged, trying to act normal. If Maverik was smart, he wouldn't try attempting to reveal himself in the midst of one of our higher ranks. Then again, Maverik may be all muscle but he had the brain of a bird. Gideon looked at me, raising a blond brow as if wanting to see what was on my mind. Of course he could figure it out if he wanted to but then again, he was slowly giving me my freedom back. "Hm, well if that's the case, I have something urgent you need to be aware of. We've tracked down your mortal. And now we need you to trap him." I could feel bile rise in my throat. Already, the protective instinct was settling in and I had no idea how to contain the urge to do what I was suppose to. I could see the sympathy within Gideon's gaze, he knew what I was going through. He placed a hand on my shoulder in comfort and attempted to soothe my nerves which were kicking in. If they got him, I had already promised them that they were to leave him unharmed. Though they still had an advantage over me because if they harmed him drastically, they would harm me as well, and leave me unable to take revenge. The complexity of the situation is what I knew nothing about, or especially how I was going to get this done. "I made a promise, Kayla. I wouldn't back down on it, you are our greatest warrior." Greatest warrior indeed, but yet you can silence me with just a threat. We shall see where this goes. Playing it off is the better path rather then disagreeing with him and he kills my mortal on sight. The only thing that really bugged me was the fact that I held no knowledge of my mortal but yet here I was, deceiving almost every rule just so I could protect him. Containing my thoughts, I managed to lock those emotions up, burying them so that they couldn't cost me a mistake when I couldn't afford one. I looked at Gideon and nodded as if I contained myself. "Very well," I stood up, forcing his hand off my shoulder as it fell to his lap. "I'll do it. But our deal remains intact." Gideon stood up, looking delighted that I had not backed out. "We will be departing within the hour. Please be ready to leave." he moved over to the door and walked out. Not long after, he peeked his head back in. "I almost forgot. Maverik will be punished later once he exits your room. Do not tell him though. He will be dealt with for crossing lines that he knows not to cross." The fact that he knew Maverik was in the room was not a shocker, however, him knowing what Maverik had done was what I feared most. Had he seen the snake?
