Chapter Seven
For the first time in forever, Evelyn was happy to see her mom leave. She'd enjoyed watching movies on Saturday and hanging out with her on Sunday, but she couldn't wait until Jamie got there with her new laptop. Her mom left for work, bemused but pleased her daughter was happy.
The moment her mom drove away, Evelyn pounced on the babysitter. “Can I please borrow your computer? Just for minute? It's for school,” Evelyn added, hoping if she said it was for a legitimate project, Jamie would take pity on her. She tried to keep the guilt off her face. It was for an important cause; and it was only a little white lie after all.
