University is a place that keeps me distracted in the worst of times. Even though I didn't have many friends that I would trust with my life, I still didn't considered myself really friendless.
The thing is, it's not their fault that we are not that close. The people who even are my friends doesn't really know me because I often stayed closed off and didn't like sharing too much about me or my life with others. Even the ones I consider the best of my friends.
I'm the type of person who always turned to studying whenever something bothered me. It was like this since I was a kid, if my parents were fighting, I distracted myself with studying.
Right now I was doing the same, but this time it wasn't the fight I had with my mother. I needed distraction from a certain male that I met the night prior.
Who was he? What was that strange feeling that I felt when I met him?
I shook my head for the nth time in those ten minutes as I tried to focus on my books again.
I was interrupted from my little study session yet again, but this time not by my thoughts but by a cough, which was not to clear throat but to get my attention.
I looked up from my books and was met with the most comforting brown orbs from last night.
I was shocked and confused, but mostly shocked. Looking at the man smiling at me, who seemed more brighter now than last night. Just seeing him again made me feel a weird feeling in my stomach, but I don't know why I was feeling that way.
" Is this seat empty? " He asked pointing towards the seat next to me. Heck! The entire class was empty.
" Yes, yes, please have a seat. " I said, honestly I had many questions I wanted to ask him but at the same time I didn't. I mean it's not an interview.
Now Noor don't ask anything weird. Don't look like a weird girl.
"So are you following me?" Well done Noor, you definitely did the job by starting and asking the cringiest question.
A deep laugh erupted from his chest that for some weird reason made my heart skip a beat. Ok Noor you have a crush, let's get this out of the way.
" Actually as much as I want to, that's not the case. " I smiled a little, cuz thank God! I don't want such a handsome man to be a stalker.
" Then? " I asked. " Well, I'm new here and fortunately found a familiar face. " He explained. A bit stretching on the familiar part.
" Somewhat familiar. " I corrected. Hearing this his eyes and face softened. " Somewhat familiar. " He repeated in that same soft voice that I couldn't get out of my head.
Our meeting last night wasn't the most ideal one. I was in my worst state and he just happened to be there to witness it.
I didn't want him to ask about last night so I continued the conversation by asking. " How did they let you take admission in the middle of the semester? "
He got comfortable in his chair before answering. " I was in the same major in my old university, in cases like these all you have to do is give a little exam, and they let you in. "
We talkes some more. Talking to him now felt so different than last night, today he was more like a new friend, and even I was opening up to him. Then suddenly his words from last night hit me.
" If you weren't following me, you wouldn't know I was in this university, and if you didn't know, why did you say there will be many instances we will meet? "
He let out an amused laugh, " God! You could've just asked the question, you love to talk with an extra explanation, don't you? " I shied away at that because yes I do tend to over explain things before getting to the point.
" To answer your question, it is a small town and there is a big chance we will meet again. And I didn't know you would be studying here, even though, this is the only university close to town, you looked younger to be in one. "
God Noor, why are you so stupid, I mentally facepalmed myself. He must've noticed my embarrassed face but didn't say anything about it.
" Speaking of which... " He sat straight and held out his hand. " I'm Jay. "
" Jay, I'm Noor, nice to meet you. "
" Nice to meet you too Noor. " He said my name in a way like he was testing how it sounded from his mouth.
But then I was more focused on his name. In this country nobody names their kid Jay. Usually people with old fashioned names that start with j give themselves this nickname. But I don't know where Jay is from, so maybe it is his real name.
Soon the lecturer came and the day begun. During classes Jay was like me, focused on lectures and not talking much.
At lunch he wasn't easily opening up to my friends either. Leonie and Kash even gave me side eyes on his small answers to their questions. Maybe he did consider me a familiar face. That's why he was more comfortable with me.
The rest of the day went with classes and me showing him around the campus. He was only speaking more when it was just us.
At Night.
At night time i was laying in bed. I didn't even eat dinner properly as my parents started to fight.
It was a routine now. In some countries, by this age people moved out but that wasn't the case here. Here if you move out before marriage, you are either ungrateful or there is something wrong with you.
My parents were still fighting and I was still able to hear their voices. Now I was sort of immune to everything but sometimes I do get a little bothered.
I didn't realise when I drifted off. A slight noise made me wake up but when I did, the site in front of me scared me to the point I stopped breathing for a moment and nearly brought a scream out of my throat.
In front of me was a gigantic white wolf. He had beautiful ocean blue eyes and he was glowing in a way that my entire room was lit up. A blue mist was surrounding him, the same colour as his eyes. He looked ethereal.
Yes the town was surrounded by forest, but wolves were never spotted there. And I lived on the 2nd floor, it was impossible for it to be in my room. But even if it was possible, he didn't look like an ordinary wolf.
I should've screamed, or maybe run for my life, but it felt like my body wasn't in my control anymore, and I brought my hand up to touch his face.
The action made him come closer to me. Letting his face touch my hand. He is just inches away from me. I was staring into the blue of his eyes, they were so deep that i felt like, I might get lost in them. His eyes were telling a different story.
What was wrong with me? I should scream, inform my parents, and inform my neighbors. I should be scared, but instead I felt a strange warmth in my chest. I wanted to be closer to him even though it was impossible.
Suddenly a white light filled up my room. It was so bright that it made me shut my eyes. When I opened them again, I was back laying on my bed, covered with my comforter. The sunlight from the little gap in the curtains was directly falling on my eyes.
Wait it's morning? But it felt like a second just passed when it was dark outside and I was seeing a glowing white wolf. Was it a dream? It felt so real. Of course it was a dream. How could a wolf that big be in this town and especially in my room?
Another Place.
" You went to see her? " the older asked.
" Yes, I did. " The younger didn't cared if he went against the older's order.
" I specifically told you not to go and scare her. She doesn't know anything yet. "
" I don't care. It was hard for me to stay away. And she has to know at some point. "
" That some point is NOT NOW! "
It was rare for the older to raise his voice but even through his fury the younger was still unbothered.
" Don't worry, we will see if she remembers anything tomorrow. Jim did tried to erase her memory. "
