The Reminder

843 Words
I woke up to someone banging on my front door. looking at the clock I saw it was only two in the morning and wondered who it could possibly. I slipped my fuzzy slippers on and made my way to the staircase at the end of the hall. Almost grabbing the railing until someone grabbed me from behind, I went to scream, to call for my brother but the person covered my mouth. "Shhh, Amey its me. Its alright" My twin brother, Alex whispered in my ear. "I was just gonna go check whos at the door" I told him moving out of his hold "I know whos at the the door," He continued to whisper " go get the kids and hide dont come out til I come get you" he pushed me in the direction of the rooms and shot me a glare when i didnt move immediately.           Confused and worried by my brothers actions I rushed into the room nearest to me and began to quietly wake my siblings. When I picked up my little sister and the youngest of us all, I heard a loud bang and multiple voices shouting one of them being my brother. I ran with them to the room that held the storm shelter my parents had installed before they passed. Once the five of them were in it was clear I wouldnt fit. I made a snap decision when I heard someone coming up the stairs. I fastened the lock and hid under the bed.           I watched as the door opened and black work boots entered the room. Sliding closer to the wall the bed was pressed against and covering my mouth to control my breathing, still watching as the boots walked around the room looking for something, someone, me...and my siblings. I suddenly realized it was too quiet downstairs. Did that mean Alex was hurt? Sadly my concern for my brother flew out the window cause in the next second the man had crouched down and reached out for my leg.        I screamed, it didnt matter now that the man had seen me, and kicked my foot out as hard as I could. I felt my foot make contact but didnt stop to check where, I kicked him once more and crawled from under the bed, instantly getting to my feet and making a run for the door. My only thought to get this man from my siblings. As I reached the doorway I felt a searing pain in my scalp the man had grabbed my waist long hair and had pulled me back by it. The man proceeded to pick me up and carried me to the steps. I struggled against him, punching, kicking, biting, clawing but all to no evail his grip never faltered. when he reached his destination he threw me to the floor as if I was a sack of potatoes effectively knocking the wind out of me. When I gained my breath I looked around to find my brother. It wasnt just the one guy that had forced his way into our home but nine others as well. Two of the men held Alex's arms back while another brutally continued to beat him even tho he was already bloodied and nearly unconcious. The man who had came upstairs standing behind me, my assumption being so I couldnt run, and the other 6 standing in a circle talking quietly among theirselfs. One of the men turned to face us "Where are the others?" he questioned his voice sending tremers of fear down my spine "Dunno couldnt find them" the one behind me answered in a gruff voice " They are at a friends house" I supplied quickly hoping they wouldnt call my bluff and check the house again. Sadly, the only response I got was a swift kick to the stomach and I was on my back unable to breathe again. "Shame" the man-leader- said "the boss wanted this done at one time he wont be pleased"           What did the boss want done? Who was the boss? Once again these questions quickly left my mind when another male walked over to me. Was he gonna hurt me too? "Common man they're just kids we scared them enough lets go tell the boss they need another month and be done with this" he said. Finally a voice of reason "The boss didn't send us to scare them he sent us to end it" he pulled something out from begind his back. A gun... IT WAS A GUN, and pointed it at me. I could hear my brother pleading for this mam to shoot him instead over the ringing in my ears. The man pulled the trigger. I woke up panting and drenched in sweat. With trembling fingers I touched my shoulder that had the scar from the bullet, checking the time I saw it was only 4:30 am two hours before I had to be up. losing any hope of getting more sleep I got up to start my day.
