While Juhi went to sleep in Devgan's king-sized bed after their meal, the men sat in his meeting room.
This was the first time they had gathered somewhere that was not an official place for a formal meet-up which they had to do annually. This was the first time anyone else had been allowed in Devgan's penthouse suite.
Even though they had made a lot of progress in their mutual relationship regarding Juhi. They had realized very quickly that they were not willing to give up on Juhi.
She was not a werewolf. She was not even from their world. And she somehow tuned on the strings of their hearts like what they had heard about mates.
She had made it quite clear time-and-time again, that she had no intention of choosing between them. Especially after she gave her virginity to two guys at once. She made the stubborn Alphas see something beyond their grudges.
Their dynamic had been working so far in the prison cave.
But now they were out of it.
And sitting in the meeting room it felt like they had never left. They had nothing to say to each other.
Now that Juhi wasn't there to pull them apart, they were sure it was going to take one word from anyone to be back at each other's throats.
Devgan was looking outside the window. Vagus was pacing circles around the table. Arin sat deep in thought, his elbows on the table, chin resting on his hands. Kata was on the opposite side of the room focusing on condensing, moving, evaporating, and preparing the process for some atmospheric water droplets in the room.
The room had never been this quiet with the four Alpha Kings in it before they had been stuck in the prison cave. Usually, it was loud, messy, and often fruitless. Their animosity towards each other had never let them actually talk things out. The business was dwindling between the continents. Even though the continents were fine on their own, trade with the rest of the world was hard. Even worse, because the leaders refuse to settle on any point in any annual meeting.
After Juhi had gone to sleep, the men had asked their assistants to call their betas to the island they were on and compile the reports about everything that they needed to catch up on since being gone.
They were told that they had been gone for a year.
The world had searched for them for months. Some searches were still going on but most people had given up hope. Since everyone knew of their open hate for each other, they were afraid that the Alphas had done this to each other. The world was waiting for new Alphas to be chosen by the Moon Goddess while the Werewolf Council consisting of the elders from the individual Councils of each Alpha was going to make sure that everything ran smoothly in the absence of the Alphas.
This was the first time in history that all the Alphas were gone simultaneously, leaving the individual Alphas with single packs under their care to fend for themselves and do what they pleased.
The island that they were on was a small place, said to be where the Moon Goddess had descended in a tangible form once and gifted the world with an animal transformation. That is why it was called 'Truce' and was supposed to be a no-war zone, where no one dared to fight in respect to the Moon Goddess. That had been the only thing in the past decades that was keeping the Alpha Kings from ripping each other to shreds.
The files were ready and sitting unopened on the table.
They all had heavy hearts and were not ready to move on from their grudges which, according to them, were valid and deserved justice, or at least someone to avenge. They had not told Juhi anything, despite her asking for it a few times. They still did not know if they were ready for it yet.
There was a hustle and bustle outside the door and in walked a handsome young gentleman, wearing a formal suit and carrying a bag full of files, "My Respects, Alpha Kings." He bowed nonchalantly, which was more of a nod than a respectful bow, and walked straight to Devgan who had turned to face the man, his mood quickly got better.
The two gave each other a strong hug as Devgan confessed, "Karan, it is so nice to see you again."
"You too, Alpha. You have made us search a lot." He spoke in a lighter tone but then swiftly shifted, "I've got everything you need. It is time to catch up to everything of essence that has happened in the last year."
He looked around awkwardly. He was not expecting the Alpha Kings to be so silent or to actually be hanging around in Devgan's meeting room.
Something had happened while the Alphas were away and he was not sure how to take this change.
Before Devgan and his beta could either leave or settle down, another man entered the room. He was more easy-going, even daring to wear flip-flops and wearing a palm-tree-print button-up, "Alpha!" He called out, ignoring everyone else, and gave a quick hug to Vagus who patted him on the back as the two shared big smiles, making everyone else roll their eyes at them.
"Wanna get out of here?" The newcomer asked, holding the suitcase he was carrying between them, the only thing that held any resemblance to the importance of his role and authority to be where he was.
"Henry-" Before Vagus had time to respond, a man and a woman entered simultaneously, giving each other dirty looks.
The man was dark-skinned and gave curt nods after a sweeping look around the room. He went straight to Arin, who stood up upon seeing who had come. The man brought his hand ahead to be shaken but Arin pulled him in for a hug, making the man widen his eyes in surprise.
"Don't be so shocked, Obe. It is still me and this is probably the only time you're getting it." Arin patted Obe's back, making him hug back and get over his surprise.
On the other hand, the female who had entered was the only one who gave a proper bow to everyone present and showed respect despite the grudges and evident animosities. She then, walked over to Kata and bowed again reverently, " Alpha King." She had a smile on her lips when she stood up. Kata returned the smile and immediately pulled her in for a hug.
"Kim Mi So, thank you for coming on such short notice." Was the first thing Kata said to his Beta Wolf.
"My Alpha King was gone. The Council was in shambles. The Continent was barely holding on, like the rest of the world. Was there any reason to delay when I got informed of your presence here?" It was spoken not as a question, but as a statement.
Shen then asked the same question the other new arrivals had asked, "Shall we sit down somewhere private and get you caught up?"
