After what felt like an eternity, Alex finally made his way out of the sliding glass door of the emergency vet. He walked purposely towards the car, but his expression was unreadable. Opening the back door, he slid in beside me and sighed deeply. "He's fine," he murmured, his relief obvious as he sank back into the seat. "He's fine?" I repeated, needing to hear him say it again.
