I suddenly remembered that he had mentioned that he wasn't on speaking terms with his family and felt awkward having asked him the question.
"I'm not sure," he admitted. "I haven't spoken to them in years and to be honest, I really don't know what they would think. I suppose it's not something we need to worry about though," he finished with a resigned shrug.
"Why haven't you spoken to them in so long?" I asked, unable to restrain my curiosity.
His eyes darted around the room as he grappled for an answer and I could see that the subject was an uncomfortable one for him.
"I... We just... We had a falling out," he eventually managed to say.
