Flashback
Prince Enrique
I still remembered her, the voice of her childish laughter in that long corridor echoing.
I was angry with my mother, she was not giving me the desired food I needed and hence I ran from the room, all the maids searched me in and out of the palace. But anyhow I found the right way to the kitchen secretly without being noticed. When stepped inside, I heard an unknown voice from somewhere and hurriedly hid in a long curtain of the kitchen room. There were tiny holes and I peeped in.
A beautiful, little girl, wearing a white, sparkled dress and a tiara on her head entered into the kitchen too and her mother behind, trying to catch her up. She laughed like a baby as she ran hither and thither. I watched her for the first time inside the palace. Apart from me and my cousins, there were no children in the castle so I doubted who she was.
Anyways watching her laughing so beautifully I laughed too because I found her playful. I totally forgot that I was hiding behind a curtain and then the crown queen entered (my mom). Seeing my mom, I too came out and stood still, head down. The little girl hid behind her mother’s dress. She was shivering, clutching her mother’s dress, she closed her eyes tightly.
“What is she doing here? Did not I tell you not to take her out of this room?” Queen scowled.
“My highness! Forgive me, she saw the dress and ran from the room.” Mother replied anxiously.
“You will receive your punishment, now take her away before anyone see her.” Both she and her mother left.
I did not know why my mother shouted at them. When I returned to my room and asked her about her cold reaction towards them, she replied that no maid’s son or daughter was allowed to enter the kitchen because they were not members of the royal palace.
I agreed because those were the rules but the way my mom reacted was a bit disturbing. I was still curious why that little girl shivered to see my mother.
I remembered a wish she told me about her desires of horse-riding when I accidentally met her the second time. She was playing with a small cute little puppy in a corner of our very, extremely large garden. Me and all my cousins were practicing hide and seek in the garden since it was large and covered with thousand flower pots, luscious trees and extremely gorgeous gardening features. I was finding my perfect place to hide and then again, I heard that similar laughter I had heard two days back. It felt like the voice again echoed in my ear. I followed the source of the sound and I realized I was very far from the castle. I tried to go back to castle but her laughter from the different side was preventing me to go back.
But this time I wanted to meet her, to know her. There were questions on my mind.
“Whether is she a royal member?”
“Why was she scared of my mom?”
On reaching at the spot, I found her. She had been wearing that same dress. As soon as she saw me, she hid behind a tree. I approached towards her slowly, trying not to make her feel afraid of me like she was feared of my mother that night. I had stood six steps back from that tree.
“Hello, little princess?” I spoke gently. She came little forward
“Hello, my majesty.” She greeted me keeping her left hand back and bending her knee.
“What’s your name?” I asked her but she took time to reply.
“Ry..lee… Rylee, so will you complain?” She stammered.
“About what?” I curiously asked her.
“That I was playing here.”
“But its not wrong to play.” I took some steps forward smilingly.
“But I disobeyed my aunt, she told me not to come outside and I jumped from the window.”
“Did they lock you?” I concernedly asked.
“Yes, she hates me and does not want to see me.” She replied little bit stammering and fearing.
Next day, I straight went to my mom and told her everything. The girl needed help. There might be someone in the castle who wanted to harm them. My mom agreed to help. I was happy for her.
And from next day I could not find her in the castle. I searched her every nook and corner, but I could not. I did ask my mom.
“She wanted to be free from the castle so I allowed her to go.” Mom replied.
Is it so? Did she wanted to go?
Twenty years passed; I had no idea where she was. But the girl remained in my memory. Her beautiful greenish eyes. I was sure she had grown up now. Her brown hairs would be long and she might be a beautiful girl now. I missed her childish laughter whenever I stood miserably in my garden yard. Will I be able to see her once? I questioned myself.
Days had passed by, I had forgotten her because I knew she did not live here anymore. My mother said she with her mom had shifted to a different country, to a different place. After ten days my birthday was coming and that day I would be turning twenty. Everyone in the palace had started preparations for it. Since everyone was busy, I got a good opportunity to visit a famous local circus event. One of our maids working in the palace was discussing with their fellow friends that would be visiting it because this prominent circus happens once in three months. This circus is a group of performers who presents their very diverse entertainment shows. It contained highly trained people with their artistic skills, clowns, trained animals, acrobats, trapeze acts, dancers, musicians, magicians, jugglers, hoopers and fantastic rope walkers. Since I had never visited it, I did not have much knowledge about it, there could be more things that happened in a circus and hence no matter what would happen today I would still escape. I had told about this plan to Johan and now he was working on it.
Someone knocked the door and Johan came in.
"So are you done with the things?" Enrique curiously asked.
"All done, here is the guards dress." Johan forwarded his hand towards him. "Those guards had the night shift, somehow I exchanged their dresses.
Enrique smiled looking at them and patted his brother.
" Nice, no one would stop us today in going outside."
"But we have to reach before night falls." Johan intervened. " Otherwise, I would be punished and not you, they would think I lured you."
"Johan , no matter what happens today, I wont say your name, have this trust on me. Enrique hugged him.
