"Class dismissed. Clear the arena," Commander Vance’s voice trembled slightly as he broke the stunned silence. Medical omegas rushed into the ring with a stretcher to carry Gideon away.
Lyra turned and walked toward the locker rooms, her body finally registering the immense pain in her ribs. Every breath felt like inhaling broken glass.
Up on the deck, Aidan watched her retreating form until she disappeared down the stone corridor.
"Incredible," his Beta, Thomas, whispered from behind him. "The girl has no aura, Alpha. No magic. Yet she took down a high-tier Beta youth using pure human martial mechanics. She didn't even use a wolf's instinct."
"She didn't use a wolf's instinct because she's being suppressed," Aidan said, his voice a deep, gravelly baritone that carried a dangerous edge.
"Sir?" Thomas asked, confused.
Aidan didn't answer. He couldn't explain the storm raging inside his chest. The moment the girl had looked up at him from the dirt, his inner wolf had gone completely wild, clawing at his mental barriers. It wasn't just admiration for her fighting skill. It was an unexplainable, magnetic draw. Her scent—faintly hidden beneath dirt and sweat—smelled like starlight and crisp winter air. It was a scent that called out to his very soul.
"Find out everything about her," Aidan commanded, his eyes still fixed on the empty doorway she had walked through. "Her name, her lineage, why she is mute, and why the academy allows a wolf of her caliber to be treated like garbage."
"Her name is Lyra, Alpha," Thomas replied immediately, having already pulled up the academy registry. "An orphan. Found on the pack borders as a child. She has no recorded family, no rank, and has never spoken a word. The faculty considers her a charity case."
"A charity case don't fight like a seasoned assassin," Aidan muttered, a dark smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "She's hiding something. Or someone hid it for her. Either way, I intend to find out."
