The cult began their chant once more, and this time the earth trembled beneath the graves. But instead of summoning the creature, the air itself split open revealing flashes of what had been and what would be. In one flicker, Emby saw herself screaming as the sky burned. In another, Skylar’s body twisted again on the altar. Time was eating itself alive.
“Skylar, run!” Emby shouted.
They turned to flee, but the gates of the graveyard had disappeared. The trees had closed in, the branches knotting together like black serpents. A heavy fog rolled in, thick and suffocating.
“Emby…” Skylar gasped, “We’re trapped.”
Suddenly, the whispers and chants returned with hundreds of voices overlapping in agony. Maybe the sequence of events can’t be changed. Emby and Skylar had just been through the end. But what they hadn’t realized was that the end began with them.
Emby and Skylar have nowhere to run or hide. Emby anxiously clutches her head in confusion.
“Stop it! Stop! Leave us alone” she screamed, but the air only grew heavier.
The cultists blurred, their forms twisting, merging until they became a single towering silhouette of darkness. Its face was featureless except for two glowing eyes that mirrored Skylar’s own.
The figure lunged at the two girls viciously. Emby screamed and reached for Skylar. As their hands met everything shattered into light.
