As Norma, Phil, Robin, and Nikki were getting ready to leave, Craig walked into the room. Cameron was still sound asleep. He and Maggie said good-bye to all of them and thanked Robin and Nikki for their help.
“I’m just stopping by to see how everything is here,” Craig said as he looked down at Cam’s sleeping body.
“She’s doing okay, I guess,” Maggie started as she reached down to brush Cam’s face. It was hot and sweaty. “She’s running a fever, her blood pressure is off the charts, and she has enough drugs in her head to keep her sleeping for months.” Maggie sighed deeply, then turned back to Craig. “I’ve talked to the doctors. They’re doing everything they can.”
Craig put his hand gently on Maggie’s left shoulder. “She’ll be fine, Maggie. She always is.”
