“Maggie?” The voice was soft and high, like a child. All the lights in the hospital had been turned down low.
“Yes, sweetheart, I’m here,” Maggie said, leaning into Cam, careful how she moved her shoulder. It was well past midnight and Maggie had started to nod off. Now she was wide awake.
“I want to get out of here,” Cam said, barely audible. Maggie had to lean close to hear. She could tell that Cam still wasn’t quite awake.
“You’ll have to stay here until they can get the drugs out of your system, sweetie. Don’t worry. I’ll be here with you,” she answered. Her shoulder was aching but this wasn’t the time to worry about herself.
Cam’s eyes grew a little clearer as she looked up into Maggie’s face. “No, I want to get out of this town. I want to go somewhere else,” Cam tried to clarify.
