Chapter 2

2567 Words
So far for her first day, Raquelle wouldn't say she did badly. She was only late to two classes, she wasn't made to introduce herself in any class and she had already made some friends. She had expected her day to go much worse but she was happy with how it had turned out so far. She had one last class for the day and then she could go home. She checked her map to look for the room number. It took her a while but she was able to find the class in time. Unfortunately for her, others had gotten to class before her, so there weren't a lot of options in the seating department. Ironically, the only seat available was next to Drake Hart, the freakishly cute boy that had for some weird reason been on her mind all day and she had been told to stay away from. Seeing as she didn't have any other choice, she made her way to the table. “Hi is this seat taken?" she asked, pointing at the seat beside him that he had his backpack on. He looked a little shocked that she was talking to him. She wondered why. He shook his head, the dazed look still on his face. She found it adorable but she pretended not to notice. He cleared the space up for her and she took a seat beside him. While she sat, she kept wondering whether or not to strike up a conversation with him. He looked pretty lost in thought and she wasn't sure if he'd want to be disturbed. Then again, she wondered if it would be rude to not say anything. Thankfully she was saved from that when the teacher walked in. He announced that their seat partners would be their partners for the rest of the semester. She figured then would be a good time to introduce herself. From what her new friends had told her about him, she expected him to either ignore her completely or be very cold to her. The reverse was the case though. He gave her a gentle smile and when he took her hand in his, she felt this overwhelming sensation of warmth. It was weird and she didn't exactly know how to describe it. The class went on with her trying to concentrate but failing because she was distracted by the mysterious hunk beside her. “Okay class, even though I know it's only the first day back, I'm going to give you all an assignment", the teacher said. As if on cue, the whole class groaned. Well the whole class except Drake. “You don't seem surprised by this", Raquelle said whispering to him. He chuckled. “Mr Howard always gives homework on the first day of school. It's basically his thing", Drake explained, then froze up, almost as if he was shocked at himself for talking to her. Raquelle found it adorable. She had the urge to hold his hand but she knew that would be creepy so she clenched her hand in a fist. “For the assignment, you shall be working in teams with your current lab partner", Mr Howard said. Drake's ears perked up at that. “Keep in mind that this will be worth 20% of your grade so you all should take it very seriously", Mr Howard said. He then went on to explain the terms of the assignment. “You have until two weeks to complete it". Just then the bell rang and Mr Howard took his leave. Raquelle began packing her books back in her bag with the intention of talking to Drake about the project but by the time he was done, he was already up. She caught him going out the door and she called his name. “Drake!" He stopped then turned to her slowly, looking confused. “Wait up, we didn't get to talk about the project", Raquelle said. “Oh. You don't have to worry about that. I've got it", Drake said. He was used to that anyway. He had been grouped with others in the past but they were always so intimidated by him that they could never work with him so he ended up doing them himself and slapping their names on it. He was expecting to do the same here and was surprised to see that Raquelle was actually interested in talking about it. He was sure that after what she'd been told about him, she'd be the exact same. “What, of course not. I'd never let you do it on your own. What kind of lab partner would I be?" Drake was taken aback by that. “Okay then, partner, where would you like us to begin work on this, your house or mine?" Drake asked, a smirk on his face. “Uh, well we haven't exactly finished unpacking so my place is still untidy so I guess we'll go with yours", she replied. “Okay. I should tell you though, I like to get a head start on these things so I get done earlier". “That's actually a good idea. When do you think we should start?" “Well I don't exactly have any other plans for the rest of today", Drake said. He was having this conversation and yet it still felt like a dream to him. “Considering I'm still new to this town and this school, I don't exactly have any plans either". Drake couldn't have been more wrong about this girl. When he saw her in the cafeteria, she had him thinking she was some sort of shy girl but talking to her now, she definitely didn't seem shy to him. “So it's settled then", he said, “did you come here with a car or would you like to ride home with me?" “I don't have a car so yeah, I'd appreciate a ride", Raquelle replied, a smile on her face. It was so infectious that he couldn't help but smile back. “Alright then. Follow me", he said then started walking. Raquelle had a hard time matching his strides. He was a lot taller than her so he took longer strides than her. He was moving like someone walking alone. Considering what she'd heard about him, he probably was used to walking alone. Drake must have noticed her discomfort because he slowed down his pace to match hers. “Thank you", she muttered, not sure if he heard her. He nodded his head once, acknowledging that he did. They were almost at the doors of the school when Raquelle heard her name being called. She turned and saw Diane waving her over. She glanced at Drake and gave him a pleading look. “Just meet me outside", he said and she nodded before heading to Diane. Drake made his way outside. “The guys and I were planning on going to the arcade, would you like to come?" Diane asked. Raquelle squeezed her face in displeasure. “Damn, I really wish I could but I've got other plans". “With Drake?" Diane asked, an eyebrow raised. “It's not what you think. We're both in the same physics class and we have a project due soon", Raquelle replied. “Wow. Who gives a project on the first day of school? Wait, it's Mr Howard isn't it?" Raquelle nodded slowly. “Well that sucks. What sucks more is who you got stuck with for a partner. You know you don't really have to go with him. I've heard he doesn't mind doing projects alone. In fact, I think he prefers it". Raquelle didn't know how to tell Diane that contrary to what everyone was feeling about Drake, she actually liked being close to him. It's weird because she barely knew him but she felt comfortable around him. In fact, she wasn't sad at all that she had to work with him. She was actually looking forward to it. “Thanks Diane but I can handle Drake. Besides, the nerd in me would never let me piggy back on him for our project. I'm really sorry I can't hang out with you guys though. Raincheck?" “Yeah sure. It's fine. See you tomorrow", Diane said. “Thanks Diane. Now I gotta run. He's waiting for me. Bye", Raquelle said, sprinting away. “Bye", Diane replied but Raquelle was already long gone. She couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with the new girl. She shrugged and made her way back to her friends. Raquelle got to the parking lot and scanned through, hoping to find Drake. It wasn't hard to though. She didn't think it would be easy for him to blend in even if he tried. He was sitting on the trunk of what she assumed was his car, scrolling through his phone, looking like the hottest male model alive. She had to bring her hand to her lips to check that she wasn't drooling before she walked towards him. “You sure took your sweet time getting here", he said, not looking up from his phone. “Sorry I kept you waiting", Raquelle apologized, her face tinting a small shade of pink. Drake jumped down from the trunk and put his phone in his pocket. “This is your last chance to back out. I really have got this project down", he said, in a warning tone. She folded her arms around her shoulder and wore a confident smirk on her face. “Nice try big guy but you're not scaring me off that easily", She said and made her way to the door of his front seat. “Now open your car and let's get going". She couldn't see his eyes but she could sense his surprise and that brought her a small amount of joy. He did as she said and they both got in. She buckled herself in. She noticed that the first thing he did after he got buckled in was to take off his sunglasses and she was finally able to get a glimpse of them. What she saw, took her breath away. His eyes were like she had never seen before. They were a very bright silver shade, the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen. She found it hard to look away. “You're staring", he said, pulling her out of her trance. “Sorry", Raquelle apologized, blinking to restore her focus, “It's just your eyes". “They're weird. I know", Drake said, cutting her off and starting the car, “If you're going to be my project partner you're going to have to get used to it". “Weird?" Raquelle repeated, sounding confused, “your eyes aren't weird. They're unique and absolutely beautiful. The most beautiful I've ever seen". She whispered the last part under her breath but Drake's wolf hearing picked it up. He could tell she was being sincere. That was weird. Most humans found his eye color disconcerting especially with his skin tone. Silver eyes and brown skin wasn't exactly something you came across everyday. They were the reason he wore sunglasses, to prevent people looking at him like some freak but here she was calling them beautiful. He thought he had had humans all figured out but then this girl came along and everything he thought he knew went out the window. “Thank you", he replied honestly. Drake watched her flush a shade of red and a smile spread across his face. They made the rest of the ride to his house in comfortable silence. When they had arrived at his gate, he saw her eyes widen in surprise and he chuckled to himself. She looked like a kid with childlike wonder in her eyes. The security guard opened the gates and he drove in. Once he was well parked, he killed the engine and they got out. “Woah", Raquelle exclaimed, “this is where you live?". He chuckled again. “For most of the year, yeah", he answered. “This is really cool". He lead her inside. “Welcome to my humble abode", he said. “Oh no Drake, I'd call my house a humble abode. This place, this is a f*****g mansion. There's nothing humble about it". Just then a young boy, around the age of ten came hurrying down the stairs. He looked identical to Drake with the same curly brown hair and caramel colored skin except, this kid had brown eyes instead of silver. He still looked completely adorable. “Drake you're back", the kid said, barreling into Drake. Drake laughed and it was a beautiful sound as he wrapped his hands around the kid. “It's good to see you too Mason even though I saw you this morning", Drake said. “Aww Drake, you have a son. No wonder you're always so serious", Raquelle teased. Drake raised an eyebrow at her as he gave her a bored look. “Oh, you've got jokes huh?" Raquelle giggled at that and Drake found himself entranced at that sound. He shook his head to clear his thoughts. “This is Mason, my little brother", Drake said, “Mason, this is Raquelle, a friend from school". “You have friends?" Mason asked, looking very shocked and that caused Raquelle to burst out in laughter. Drake rolled his eyes at her, the corners of his lips tugging into a smile. “We just met today actually. It's nice to meet you", Raquelle said, extending her hand to Mason. He shook it and smiled at her. “Nice to meet you too. You're really pretty. Are you single?" “Alright, back to your room Mason" Drake said, cutting in while Raquelle was trying to control her laughter. “But I wanna stay and talk to Raquelle", Mason protested. “Later. Go back upstairs". “Fine", he answered reluctantly as he made his way up the stairs. “He was cute", Raquelle said, breaking the silence that had ensued. “Yeah. He's also a handful". Just then a man in a uniform came out. From the way he looked, he seemed to be a butler. “Welcome back Master Hart", the man greeted. “Thanks Jerry". “Would you and your guest like anything to eat or drink ?" the man, which she now knew as Jerry said. Drake looked at Raquelle and for a second, she almost lost herself in his eyes again. “Uh, just water is fine. Thank you", she said. “I'll have the same. Thank you Jerry", Drake said, “please bring it to the study". “Will do Master Hart", Jerry said, taking his leave. “Come on, let's go", Drake said, leading Raquelle to what she assumed was the study. “You have a butler?!" Drake just shrugged in response. They entered the study that was lined with rows and rows of books. She could die in here. “Have a seat anywhere, I'm going to get some text books", Drake said, disappearing behind a shelf. Instead of sitting, she decided to do a little exploring. She was fascinated by the books she saw and wondered if Drake would let her borrow some. She decided to make her way back to her seat when she bumped into what was probably the most gorgeous girl she had ever seen.
