Raquelle and the girl were involved in a staring contest. Well, the girl was staring Raquelle down. She was tall, probably around six feet. She had legs for days and looked like she belonged on a runway in Milan during fashion week.
The girl had strawberry blonde hair and seafoam green eyes that looked very confused to be seeing Raquelle. She also looked a little older than her, like a college student.
“Um hi. I'm Raquelle", Raquelle said in introduction, extending her hand.
Instead of shaking it, the girl just stared at it, still looking confused. After a few seconds, Raquelle withdrew her hand, feeling very awkward.
She was about to walk away when Drake appeared and she released a breath she didn't know she was holding.
“Okay I've got some textbooks here", Drake said but stopped in his tracks on sighting the girl. He looked mildly surprised to see her but it quickly faded away.
“Oh hey Violet", he greeted.
The girl who Raquelle now knew as Violet, smiled in greeting. “Hi Drake. How was school today?", she asked.
“Meh, the usual", Drake answered with a shrug.
Violet still had her eyes on Raquelle and it hit Drake then that he hadn't introduced them.
“Vi, this is Raquelle, my project partner for school. Raquelle this is Violet, Mason's babysitter", he said.
“Nice to meet you Raquelle", Violet said with a blinding beautiful smile, extending her hand out.
Raquelle raised an eyebrow in surprise. She briefly considered icing her out too but decided against it. No point being petty, she thought as she shook her hand.
“It's nice to meet you too", Raquelle said, a small smile on her face.
“So Drake, you actually have a project partner, how does that feel for you?" Violet asked, turning to Drake.
“Well I have one for now, there's still time for her to run away", Drake said, looking pointedly at Raquelle.
Raquelle rolled her eyes at that. “I hate to break it to you big guy but I'm not running away and letting you do this project all on your own".
“You might change your mind", Drake said, finding her amusing.
“Nope. I admit, I have only known you for less that 24 hours but you don't seem as scary as everyone says you are. You don't even seem scary at all", Raquelle said, a smirk on her face.
“You said it yourself, you barely know me, let's give it time", Drake replied her, a smirk also present on his face.
Violet stood there, feeling forgotten as the two of them smirked at each other. It was weird for her to watch.
She had known Drake for a while. She was after all, a member of his pack. She had been living with him since she turned eighteen a year ago so she could babysit his brother.
Since she had been living with him, the only person who ever came to visit him was his best friend who also happened to be his cousin. As far as Violet knew, he didn't talk to anyone at school because the humans found him intimidating or weird but here he was with this strange girl smiling at her.
Drake only ever smiled at Mason and his cousin. She had never seen him smiling at anyone else. She was more surprised this girl didn't seem freaked out by Drake's silver eyes.
It was weird for a human, especially one with dark skin, to have silver eyes that were as bright as Drake's so it really freaked people out which was why he hid them behind sunglasses while he was in school. It wasn't uncommon for werewolves though so it wasn't a big deal for her.
It didn't seem to be a big deal for Raquelle though. Violet cleared her throat, deciding to put an end to the staring contest.
They were both startled and looked away quickly from each other.
“Anyway, I'll leave you guys to it. See you later Drake", Violet said, heading out.
“Later Vi", Drake said.
“And then they were two", Raquelle said. Drake scoffed then took a seat beside her. He opened the textbooks he brought in front of them and they both focused on their project.
**********
Two hours later, they had both decided they were done for the day. They had made considerable progress with the project and they both knew that if they kept it up with the speed they were on, they'd get it done before two weeks.
They left the study and Raquelle was on her way out when Mason came down the stairs.
“Oh good, you're done. Now can you come watch TV with me?" he asked.
“Mason, Raquelle can't watch TV with you. She has to leave", Drake answered his brother.
Mason gave his brother an unimpressed look. “I wasn't asking you Drake", he said.
Raquelle laughed at that. The look on Drake's face though had her unsuccessfully trying to disguise it with a cough.
Mason turned to her. “Can you please stay? Please?" he begged.
She wanted to say no but Mason was looking at her with big puppy dog eyes and she was convinced that only a heartless person would be able to say no to those eyes.
She checked the time on her phone and saw that she still had a while before she had to be home.
“Sure, I'd love to stay and watch some TV with you", she said.
Mason cheered then took her hand and dragged her to sit with him. Drake sighed then went to join them.
Mason turned on the TV and began the process of explaining his favorite show to her. To Drake's surprise, Raquelle actually looked interested.
An hour later and she and Mason were actually laughing out loud at one of his shows. He instead was watching them, especially her.
There was something definitely unique about her. He had just met her today and his brother was already taken in by her.
Mason was a more social person than he was but he still didn't get along with everybody. It still took Mason a while to get comfortable enough with strangers but here he was laughing along with this strange girl like they were life long buddies.
He found it beautiful to watch but he still found it weird. She had been in a house of werewolves all day and yet, she didn't look the slightest bit uncomfortable.
He definitely hoped she stuck around because he needed to be able to figure her out.
Raquelle's phone beeped with a text.
“Oh shoot, looks like I got to get home", she said, after reading the text from her mother asking where she was. She shot her a reply saying she'd be home soon.
“Awww, so soon?" Mason asked, his lips forming into an adorable pout.
“Sorry Mason. My mom's wondering where I am. I'll see you tomorrow though right?" She looked at Drake when she said the last part and he nodded.
“Okay", Mason said.
Raquelle stood up and packed her things and Drake stood up with her. Mason gave her a goodbye hug and she hugged him back too.
Growing up as an only child, she had always wanted siblings. Flora and Fauna were the closest things she had to sisters. In Mason, Raquelle saw a little brother and that made her happy.
“So where am I going to get a bus around here?" Raquelle asked Drake once they were outside.
“Oh you won't. It's late and this is a very secluded neighborhood", Drake said.
Raquelle stopped in her tracks. “So how am I going to get home?" she asked.
“I'll drop you off", Drake said, making his way to his car.
“Oh, you don't have to. I wouldn't want to be a bother", Raquelle replied, not moving from her spot.
“It's fine. You're not a bother at all", he said.
“But I really don't want to inconvenience you", Raquelle said.
Drake sighed. “Listen Raquelle, you can either let me drop you off or you can stay outside and see how long it'll take you to find another means of transportation. The call's yours", he said.
When he put it like that, it wasn't much of a choice for her. Instead of replying, she made her way to his car.
Drake smiled victoriously. “I thought so", he said. They both got in and he drove out.
“Thank you for doing this", she said.
“You're welcome", he replied.
So far, Raquelle hadn't found anything about him weird. She really wondered what the rest of the school was on about. Then again, she reminded herself that it had literally only been a day. She couldn't exactly say she knew him. Yet she got the nagging feeling that she knew more about him than the rest of the school.
She gave him directions until he stopped at her house. “This is me", she said, as he arrived in front. She unbuckled her seatbelt and got down.
“Thank you Drake. I really appreciate this", she said, a grateful smile on her face.
“You're welcome Raquelle", he replied, returning her smile.
“See you tomorrow".
“See you".
He waited till she was in her house before he drove off.
“Mom, I'm home!!"
