✿Breaking point✿
✿Valentina✿ When I found out my husband was nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing, I'd already wasted seven f*****g years of my life on him. And the worst part? The signs had always been there. I just kept making excuses for him. I told myself he was stressed from work. That he'd change. That if I loved him a little harder, argued a little less, became a better wife, things would finally get better. I believed every lie I told myself. Funny how we can see everyone else's red flags but somehow go blind when it's the person we love. I ignored every warning until one sunny afternoon finally forced my eyes open. That morning, Matthew rushed out of the house without touching his breakfast. It wasn't exactly unusual. Whenever that happened, I'd pack his food and take it to his office myself. Most of the time he'd be stuck in meetings, so I'd just hand the lunch over to his secretary and leave without bothering him. That had become our thing. Our stupid little routine. But when I walked into his secretary's office that afternoon, I found her desk empty. Adrian had always insisted I let Matilda, his secretary know whenever I came by. If he was in the middle of some important meeting, she'd call him first and tell him I was waiting instead of letting me barge into his office unannounced. I stood there for a second, my gaze drifting around the quiet office. Where the hell had she gone? After a moment, I shrugged it off. Since she wasn't around, I'd just take the breakfast to Matthew myself. It wasn't like I was some random visitor. I was his wife. Surely he wouldn't mind. God, I wish I'd turned around and walked away because the moment I pushed his office door open, it felt like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over my head. Every muscle in my body locked. I couldn't breathe. I couldn't even blink. My fingers went numb around the lunch bag as my eyes fixed on the scene in front of me. Matilda was bent over his desk, her blouse hanging open in complete disarray, exposing her t**s, her skirt shoved up around her hips. And Adrian, my husband. His trousers were halfway down as he thrust into her like he didn't have a wife waiting for him at home. Like I didn't f*****g exist. For one horrifying second, my brain refused to process what my eyes were seeing. The second they noticed me, Adrian jerked back like he'd seen a ghost. "f**k," he muttered under his breath as he stumbled away from her. His secretary—no, that b***h—didn't even look embarrassed. She calmly straightened up, tugged her blouse back into place, smoothed down her skirt, then looked at me like I was the one who'd barged in and done something wrong. "A-Adrian..." His name barely made it past my lips. The room tilted. My stomach lurched so violently I clamped a hand over my mouth, fighting the urge to throw up. Tears burned my eyes until everything in front of me blurred. For seven f*****g years... I'd loved this man with everything I had. I'd stood by him. I'd been faithful. I never even looked at another man. And this was how he repaid me? By screwing his secretary behind my back. "Look, Val..." He dragged a shaky hand through his hair, but whatever excuse he was about to make died in his throat. "Val?" I let out a bitter, broken laugh. My voice shook so badly it barely sounded like mine. "You still have the f*****g audacity to call me that?" That nickname used to make me smile. Now it made my skin crawl. He clenched his jaw before finally speaking. "What the hell are you doing here?" I stared at him, completely stunned. Not a single apology. Not a trace of guilt. Not even an ounce of shame. "Seriously?" I whispered, my eyebrows pulling together. "That's... that's the first thing you're going to ask me?" He let out a slow breath and looked away. The coward couldn't even look me in the eye. My fingers curled into fists until my nails dug painfully into my palms. My chest rose and fell with uneven breaths as heartbreak and rage crashed together inside me, fighting for control. "How long?" I demanded, my voice cracking despite everything I was doing to hold myself together. "How f*****g long has this been going on?" By then, Matilda had finished fixing herself. She looked me over, and I swear to God, there was a smug little smile tugging at the corner of her lips. Not guilt. Satisfaction. Like sleeping with my husband had somehow made her the victor. "Mmm..." She tapped a manicured finger against her chin, tilting her head as if she actually had to think about it. "Oh, right." She smiled. "About five years." Five years. The words hit me like a f*****g truck. My knees almost buckled beneath me, and for a terrifying second, I thought I was actually going to collapse. Five goddamn years?.My heart pounded so hard it hurt. While I'd been planning birthdays, celebrating anniversaries, praying for our marriage, and convincing myself every rough patch was just another phase... he'd been sleeping with this b***h. The realization hollowed me out. Tears burned the backs of my eyes, begging to fall. Absolutely f*****g not. I wasn't giving either of them the satisfaction of watching me break. "Just go home, Val," Adrian said quietly. His voice wasn't guilty..It wasn't apologetic..If anything, he sounded annoyed. Like I was the inconvenience here. Something inside me snapped. "Don't you ever f*****g call me 'Val' with that cheating mouth of yours!" I screamed. My voice echoed through the office, raw enough to make my throat burn. "You lost the right to call me that the second you slid your d**k into her cunt!" Matilda rolled her eyes and tried to brush past me as if none of this mattered. I grabbed her wrist. "Don't you f*****g walk away from me." I shoved her. Not hard. God knows it wasn't hard enough to send anyone flying, but she stumbled anyway and dropped dramatically onto the floor. "Oh!" she cried, clutching her arm like I'd broken it. The fake tears came almost instantly. Adrian rushed to her without a second thought. "Are you okay?" he asked, helping her up so gently it made my chest ache. I just stood there. Watching. Hoping—stupidly—that he'd glance at me... ask if I was okay... show even the smallest sign that hurting me mattered. He didn't. How the hell had I been so blind all these years? "Go home. Now." His voice turned cold, sharp enough to cut straight through me. "I'm not going any—" The slap came so fast I never saw it. Crack. My head snapped violently to the side. A sharp sting exploded across my cheek as my ears rang, drowning out everything else. For a few seconds, all I could do was stare at the floor, too shocked to breathe. He...He'd slapped me. For the first time in our marriage...Adrian had raised his hand against me. And he did it in front of his mistress. I slowly lifted my hand to my burning cheek, my fingers trembling so badly I could barely feel my own skin. If someone had told me the man I loved would one day cheat on me, defend the other woman, and then slap me for standing in her way... I would've laughed in their face. What a fool I'd been. I didn't say another word. What the hell was there left to say? I looked at Adrian one last time. Not with love. Not even with anger anymore. Just disappointment. Then I turned around, the breakfast still clutched tightly in my hand, and walked out of his office. He didn't even try to stop me. Not like I was expecting him to. The only thing I heard before the door clicked shut behind me was his voice asking Matilda over and over if she was okay. The moment I stepped outside the company building, I spotted a man crossing the street. "Here," I said, shoving the flask into his hands before he could even ask why. "You can have it." I didn't wait for a response. Whether he ate it, threw it away, or gave it to someone else wasn't my problem anymore. I walked toward my car with stiff, mechanical steps. My body moved on its own while my mind stayed trapped inside that office, replaying everything I'd just seen. The second I closed the driver's door behind me, I broke. A sob ripped out of my chest before I could stop it..Tears poured down my face so hard I could barely see. I slammed both hands against the steering wheel. "You f*****g asshole!" I cried, my voice cracking. "Goddamn you, Adrian!" Another sob escaped me. Seven years. Seven f*****g years of loving him. Of believing in him. Of standing beside him when his company was nothing more than an ambitious dream scribbled across notebooks and coffee-stained papers. We'd dreamed of becoming successful interior decorators together. I was the one who entered that national design competition. I was the one whose winning project brought investors to his company when no one else believed in him. I celebrated every milestone with him. Every promotion. Every achievement. Every late night. I gave him everything I had. And somehow… It still wasn't enough. I wiped angrily at my tears, but they just kept coming. The worst part was that I never saw any of this coming. He'd always been patient. Gentle. Attentive. The kind of husband everyone envied. Or maybe… Maybe that had all been an act. Maybe I'd fallen in love with a version of Adrian that had never f*****g existed. I was still drowning in that thought when my phone suddenly vibrated on the passenger seat. I glanced down through blurred vision. Mandy. My daughter's teacher. A fresh wave of dread washed over me..With trembling fingers, I picked up the phone and pressed it to my ear. "H-Hello?" "Mrs. Cole?" Mandy's voice sounded rushed, almost breathless. "Please don't panic, but your daughter is in the hospital." The world stopped. My heart dropped so fast it felt like it had slammed into the pit of my stomach. "What?”
