***Nico's Point of View***
I dived Emily out of harms way before her loving, criminal boyfriend could. All around us gunshots rang out. "This is your fault," I shouted getting off the ground, Emily still dazed on the ground. "Oh, yeah I'm the one that planned the whole f*****g trap!" The guy stared back at me emotionlessly but the hate was clear in his eyes. What did Emily see in this buffoon? As her name pierced through my mind, I hear a groan filled with pain.
"Bl- Emily are you alright?" The guy kneels to her side. I could have sworn he was about to say Blade but... Then it clicked I had it all wrong from the very beginning. Blade wasn't a male but a female. I stared at the girl I had once called my best friend the girl I had always secretly liked. How had I been so wrong about the kind of person she was? "Aren't you going to call the f*****g ambulance just because she's your enemy?" He looked at me anger brimming in his eyes. I focused on Emily, no Blade and noticed that the ground around her was slowly turning crimson. I took a shaky breath and called the ambulance. As much as I hated who she had become I couldn't allow her to die without explaining herself and if I were completely honest with myself I couldn't allow her to die without a piece of me dying with her.
"Emily, Blade whoever you are now, focus on me and your I don't know what. The ambulance should be here any second." I almost pleaded. The guy mentioned he had a name but I didn't focus on it all I could focus on was the fact that Emily was losing a lot of blood. I told the guy to put as much pressure on the wound as possible. Emily let out a grunt but didn't say anything as if she was proving she was strong. Time seemed to slow and the blood increased in flow. If the ambulance doesn't get here soon, she might pass out and never come back.
The fear was clutching at my throat now. It wouldn't take her body long before it would go into shock. I remembered something about keeping the injured person warm and quickly slipped off my tux jacket and put over her. I quickly took over the task of applying pressure so that the guy could remove his jacket. He put his across her smiling softly at her before taking what looked like her skirt and putting that over her too.
"Boss you got this. You ain't dying on the gang this easily." Emily smiled at the guy. "Jakk if anything sho-..." "Ain't nothing gonna happen boss but I know." I watched the two co-workers or would they be co-gangers? Any case I grew jealous Emily and I used to be close but now we were enemies and far apart from one another.
Emily's eyes started drooping just as the ambulance pulled in. Once they loaded her Jakk turned to me. "You go with her I have to sort out a few loose strings." The smile that came to his lips made my blood chill. Whatever he meant by that it was not good. I found myself getting into the ambulance, going against every fibre of my superhero self...
The trip was shorter than I expected. Emily's pulse was weak but they had gotten her stable along the way. They couldn't tell me if she'd wake up or not.
I thought I knew fear while waiting for the ambulance I was mistaken.
The doctor made me wait outside her room while they did a thorough investigation of her wounds. The next thing I know is that the machine stopped beeping and all of a sudden nurses went flying in. The doctor calmly asks for the nurse to shock her body. As the power increases there's no sound in response.
The doctor asks to increase the power again and then to stand clear...
Suddenly the beep of a machine returns but so does the sound of moving wheels. I stand up but the nurse shows me to sit then as quickly as Emily was in a room she was out of it and on her way to theatre.
What if the ambulance hadn't reached her in time? What if she doesn't wake up? What will I tell my dad? What will I tell her parents?
The questions weighed down on me like a ton of bricks and the thought of never seeing her again just about killed me.
Her smile that had become my reason for smiling.
Her beautiful green eyes that could never really decide what colour they wanted to be changing from day to day intrigued me. Everything about her drew me in. Her angelic side that showed when she was kind or when she was smiling. Her devilish side that came out only when she kissed me. Her innocent side and her guilty as charged side. Living side by side and not did she show the real pain that was festering in her heart. Only when she had a nightmare or when she cried could you see a fraction of the pain she was suffering from. She was strong and brave. A kind of girl that keeps you awake at night because you finally had a dream worth fighting for and naturally a fear of losing it.
I waited for what felt like forever and bit but when I glanced up at the time only five minutes had passed. Too soon though Emily's parents rushed in and when they saw me their eyes were full of sadness but relief as well.
"Where is she?" Mrs Quinnzel asked frantically. I took a shaky breath. "She's in theatre but I don't know how she is doing, none of the nurses have come to give me an update yet." Mrs Quinnzel sunk into her husband heavily, sobs making her shake violently against the man she loves. Mr Quinnzel looked at me and gave me a small nod in thanks. We all sat waiting for the verdict but no one came with an answer...
