Chapter 1: The Sovereign’s Seduction.
The heavy oak doors of the obsidian estate didn’t just open; they groaned, a dark, ominous sound that echoed through the cavernous foyer. Calip didn't flinch. He stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass, watching the blood-red moon hang low over the silhouette of the jagged mountains.
In the vampire underworld, whispers were more lethal than silver stakes. And lately, the whispers about Calip were deafening.
He is a monster among monsters, they murmured in the high courts. His blood is a corrupting, lethal aphrodisiac. One taste, one touch, and you belong to him body and soul, driven to absolute, maddening obsession before it destroys you.
Calip exhaled, a low, bitter sound vibrating in his chest. He had isolated himself for decades, controlling his dark, predatory urges to keep those rumors from becoming reality. He didn’t want a mate. He didn’t want the liability.
"My Lord Calip," a trembling voice cut through the silence. It was his lead guard, Thomas, dragging something—or rather, someone—into the dimly lit room. "A tribute from the Southern Council. They call it a peace offering. To test your... hospitality."
Calip turned slowly, his dark eyes instantly locking onto the figure bound in heavy, silk ropes on the marble floor.
It was a woman. Cecilia.
She wasn't weeping or begging for mercy like the others. Her breathing was shallow, heavy, and ragged, sending the sweet, intoxicating scent of her pulse straight across the room to hit Calip's senses like a physical blow. Her dark hair fell wildly over her bare shoulders, and her dress was torn just enough to reveal the porcelain skin of her collarbone, flushing a deep, heated pink under his intense gaze.
"Leave us," Calip commanded, his voice a deep, gravelly baritone that made the air in the room instantly drop in temperature.
Thomas bowed quickly and vanished, the heavy doors slamming shut.
Calip glided across the floor, his movements impossibly fluid, stopping mere inches from where Cecilia knelt. He looked down at her, his expression cold, fighting the sudden, violent surge of hunger clawing at his throat.
"They sent you to die, human," Calip murmured, tilting his head. "Do you not know what I do to fragile things like you?"
Cecilia lifted her head, her gaze meeting his without an ounce of fear. Instead, her eyes were dark with a dangerous, intoxicating heat. She wet her lower lip with her tongue, a slow, deliberate movement that made Calip's fangs ache behind his lips.
"I know the rumors," Cecilia whispered, her voice surprisingly steady, dripping with a strange, breathless anticipation. "They say you are a ruinous addiction. That your touch burns."
She leaned forward, deliberately straining against the silk ropes, bringing her exposed neck closer to his boots. A soft, involuntary whimper escaped her lips—not of terror, but of pure, unadulterated arousal. "So burn me."
The raw, submissive defiance in her voice shattered Calip’s carefully constructed restraint.
In a fraction of a second, he was on his knees in front of her. His large, cold hands gripped her jaw, forcing her face up. Her skin was scorching hot against his icy fingers, a breathless contrast that made his dark aura flare.
"You have no idea what you are asking for," he growled, his thumb brushing hard against her lower lip, pulling it down to reveal her small teeth.
"Try me," Cecilia gasped, arching her back, her body pressing shamelessly against his chest despite the ropes binding her arms. The physical contact was electric. Calip’s possessive instincts roared to life; the scent of her desire was overwhelming, filling the room, making it impossible to breathe anything but her.
He leaned down, burying his face in the crook of her neck. He didn't bite yet. Instead, he inhaled deeply, his lips brushing the sensitive skin over her throbbing pulse. Cecilia let out a loud, shuddering gasp, her thighs trembling against his as he gripped her hips, pinning her flush against his hard frame. He could feel her heart hammering like a trapped bird, demanding to be let out.
His fangs lengthened, pressing sharply against her skin, just a millimeter away from drawing the first drop of blood. He was going to claim her. He was going to make the rumors real.
But just as his teeth grazed her vein, Cecilia tilted her head further, her lips brushing against his ear.
"Good," she whispered, a dark, wicked smile touching her lips even as she trembled under his weight. "Because the Council thinks I’m your executioner... but I came here to be your queen."
Calip froze, his fangs still resting against her skin.
Before he could demand what she meant, heavy, synchronized footsteps echoed from the corridor outside. The Southern Council’s enforcers were arriving early, expecting to find a corpse. If they caught him like this, the secret was out.
Calip looked down into Cecilia's hooded, heavy-lidded eyes, his grip tightening on her waist until she groaned. He had seconds to hide her, or kill her.
