The Letter A
A is for the first day of August.
I met him on August 18th, 1968 at my older brother's sixteenth birthday party. I was fifteen, he was seventeen.
My brother decided this year that he wanted to celebrate his birthday by having a pool party. Today was the perfect day for it too. It is scorching hot outside and my clothes are sticking to me like second skin.
I yank my shirt over my head and drag my shorts down my legs and I instantly feel a lot better. The breeze now hits my bare skin and I breathe a sigh of relief.
Yesterday I went shopping to pick out the perfect bathing suit and today I’m wearing it. The top is plain black but it’s crisscrossed in the back and it shows off my already tanned skin. The bottoms are my favorite color, teal, and have the cutest bow on the butt.
After making sure that my towel and sunglasses are waiting for me when I need them, I do a perfect dive into the deep end of the pool.
The music is loud, people are laughing and eating. My brother and his friends are wrestling around in the shallow end. I catch a few of them eyeing me, without my brother's knowledge of course, but none of them matter. I’m only hoping to catch only one guy's eye and he isn’t even here yet.
I swim a couple of laps before I end up getting tired and decide to rest and grab a cold water bottle.
I lay down on my towel, throw on my sunglasses, take a few gulps of water, and bring out my book. Despite the fact that the water cooled me off, my body suddenly heats up and I don’t even remove my eyes from the book to know why.
Jet black hair, long toned legs, perfect abs, the most beautiful blue eyes.
My brother's best friend.
