The Oracle's Eye(short story)

"No!!! Please don't Matthew!!!" Her heart raced rapidly against her chest, oozing cold sweat all over her damp body, crystal-like tears streamed down through her eyes. She ran a hand on her sweat-matted hair and wiped her face that's obviously covered with dread. Trembling hands and knees were kept on rattling as horrible scenarios woke her up from deep sleep. She checked the time and it's already 5 in the morning. "Nightmares again." said the girl. She sighed dramatically and hurriedly prepared herself for work as a professor in a prestigious university in their town. Aria Cassidy, 23 years of age, lived by herself in an average abode in a province somewhere in Mindanao, Philippines. Her parents already passed away due to a car accident one rainy evening while driving on their way to a family's thanksgiving party. Aria was only 15 at that time and also the sole survivor of that hapless accident. It was the turning point of her life and the reason why she had been distant to everybody. She grew up through her grandmother's keep yet decided to be independent when she turned 18. She despised herself a lot because she believed that she's the reason why her parents died. Hence, Aria built up a wall as high as the sky and as strong as she could muster so that no one could ever be part of a living curse she thought she would be. But things fell out otherwise; all her inhibitions slowly disappeared when her boyfriend Matthew Evans made his way through her heart with a strong bond that kept them together for 3 years. He met Matthew when they're in college. Back then, Aria first noticed Matthew's exuding mysteriousness for he too seemed aloof from others and a man of few words. He was indeed an enigmatic being. His undeniable charm captivated her attention as well as her heart. Little did she knew, Matthew only had his eyes for Aria. He fell in love with her as time passed by where he saw the real Aria behind her cold and stoic facade. Out of interest he tried to collect every bits and pieces of Aria's identity in silence thus he found out that she underwent from a dreadful past. She's a broken soul like him that needed to be loved, kept and healed. From then on he thought that he would protect this woman no matter what it takes.
