The last few months at school were hell when I had to watch my best friend and brother making out all the time. They were always lost in their own sweet world. Don't get me wrong. I was happy for them and envied them at the same time. All my life I have been waiting for my mate and how does one react when, her best friend, who is six months older than her, gets her mate in front of her eyes? And her so-called mate is none other than my brother. My eyes hurt watching their first-ever make-out session. It was so damn passionate. And I had to endure all that forever. Especially when my parents are not less affectionate with each other, all the sweetness around me makes me sick. Thank god Anna restrained my brother from marking her right then and there. I don't think I could have survived knowing what happened after that. It is still hard for me to digest my best friend and my brother together, but that's what it is. Whether I accept it or not, she is Kaiden's mate and there are no second thoughts about that. Well, let's say he didn't give her that choice as she was marked the very next day. Boy, he didn't wait for sure. Such a whirlwind romance. There is even talk about their marriage after graduation. And that was my parent's idea they wanted them to get married after high school, but Anna refused that and postponed the plan to graduation. She and Kaiden had a huge fight over it. Kaiden being Kaiden, wasn't ready to let it go. But Anna somehow managed to convince him. But I am glad I have finally turned eighteen. We celebrated my birthday before coming here. But I had no such luck finding my mate. ''Hey girl, where are you lost?'' came my sweet best friend's voice behind me. I ignored her and continued to fold my clothes. First, because I can tell from her voice that she wanted to talk about my brother, and second, I had enough of them. ''Hey, I am talking to you.'' When she understood I wasn't going to give her any response, she plopped herself right in front of me. ''What.'' I said. ''What what why are you ignoring me?'' she asked while folding her hands in front of her chest. ''Because I have better work to do than listening to your romance,'' I said a little irritated with the both of them. I mean I get that they are happy and all but please don't rub it in my single as f**k face. ''Hey don't be such a meanie. Or else I too know how to show attitude.'' Anna whined. This girl and her childish antics. ''Yeah yeah I know.'' I replied nonchalantly. ''If you are this disinterested to know what I was about to say, then I will tell Kaiden that you are not coming with us.'' that got my ears to perk up. ''Coming. Where?'' I asked. ''It's nothing, I am sorry to disturb you. Continue with your work.'' with that she got up and moved to the door of my room. We are sharing an apartment at the university where we are going to enroll both humans and werewolves. So our parents thought it would give us some sense of freedom to have our own private space. I appreciate their thoughts as I can't imagine myself sharing a community shower. ''Wait,'' I yelled, and she stopped but didn't turn around. I rushed to stand in front of her. ''Where are you guys going?'' I asked. ''I thought you weren't interested,'' she asked with a mischievous smile on her face. ''I- I was just busy. Just tell me.'' I groaned. ''Okay okay, grumpy princess. We are going to one of Kaiden's friends' party tonight,'' she said, grinning like a Cheshire cat. ''WHAT?'' my eyes got wide as she said the word party. My parents and brother haven't let me attend a single party thrown by my classmates in high school. Given that our high school was on the pack grounds, it wasn't like I could sneak out, as everyone knew everyone. And my brother, being one year older than me, went to every one of those parties. I tried to sneak out once in my last year of high school but got caught by my father, who then grounded me for two weeks. After that, I never tried. But now my parents aren't here to lecture me or to ground me. I am free as a bird. But the thought of my brother being here struck me like lightning. ''I know what you are thinking but don't worry about it. You are also coming with us.'' Anna said as if she had read my mind. ''But how?'' I asked, dumbfounded. ''You know your brother will never deny me. I just had to use my charm on him and, like a perfect obedient mate, he agreed.'' Anna explained. In simple words, all it took is s*x for him to agree to whatever Anna said. I never thought my brother was this basic. It is kind of gross. Nevertheless, it is coming in handy. ''Are you sure?'' I asked to confirm, because knowing my brother, he does have the power to ground me here in my own f*****g apartment. ''Damn sure girl. Come on, don't waste time, and get ready. We will be leaving in about two hours.'' with that Anna was out of the door. ''f**k, am I really going to attend my first-ever party?'' I asked no one in particular, but my wolf Maria had to interrupt. 'Yeah, even I am shocked at this.' I rolled my eyes at that. This interruption wasn't needed. But I am glad I had shifted way before my eighteenth birthday. I still remember how painful and frightening my first shift was. But my parents were there to guide me through it. Honestly, I have the most supportive and understanding parents. And I love them to death. 'Maybe you will find your mate there.' Maria said, all of a sudden, breaking my reverie. That could be a possibility. I have been attending my classes for two or three days, but I haven't had any luck in this department. Even so, I am always optimistic. And there is nothing wrong with hoping to find my mate at the party. Let's get ready for the party. What should I wear? Should I wear a dress? 'Nope, that would be a little overdressed,' Maria replied. ''Yup, you are right. So should I go for a blouse and jeans?'' I asked my wolf. 'That would be a little underdressed.'' ''It's f*****g frustrating. I can't even select a dress to wear at the party. How am I supposed to manage myself throughout the night.'' I groaned. ''I think I should cancel it.'' I will be the third wheel. After all, Anna and Kaiden will be together. What would I do there I don't even know anyone. 'Aren't you optimistic?' Maria taunted me. ''I am optimistic, not dumb.'' after that, I tuned my wolf out, as I didn't have the time to reply to her sarcastic ass. I strode out of my room to my best friend's room. She hasn't attended any parties, but she can help me. ''Hey, what sho - '' I barged into her room without knocking, and what I saw left me stunned. She was wearing a black halter neck body con dress with nude strap heels. ''Close your mouth girl.'' Anna's teasing voice broke my trance. ''Damn, girl. You are killing it.'' I said, still a little shocked. She always wore baggy clothes. Always. So seeing her in body con is a big shock for me. ''Thank you.'' she did a little bow like an artist. ''I am a little confused. Help me choose a dress for tonight.'' I said about what I am here for. ''Come on. I will help you choose a perfect dress.'' we both moved towards my room and Anna made a beeline for my closet. It took her ten minutes to come up with a perfect outfit, and it's black. She made sure of it because she wanted us to twin. It is a two-piece dress, a black full-sleeved crop top paired with a black high waist-wrap mini skirt. I chose my black and golden buckled stiletto heels. ''I just love your fashion sense.'' I blew her a chef's kiss and she burst out laughing. ''Thank you once again. Now get ready, we don't have much time left.'' she went out the door once again. Maybe to talk to my brother they are both joined by the hip. I am surprised that he left her alone for more than one hour now. Anyway, let's get ready. ************************************************* I am doing my make-up right now and my loud-ass brother is here shouting at me to get ready fast, otherwise, he will leave me here. This got me working at a fast pace, and I was done with everything in ten minutes. He didn't shut up for a single second. ''What's your problem? It is my first time going to a party. At least consider that before acting like a jerk.'' I yelled at him as soon as I entered the living room. My brother's eyes got wide, and he spat out whatever drink he was drinking. Thank god Anna was near him, otherwise she would have to change her dress because of him. ''What?'' I asked when he didn't say anything for a moment, and it wasn't like him to not come up with a comeback. ''Change.'' he drops that one word like a bomb on me. ''What the heck!!!'' I looked at him incredulously. ''I said, change your damn clothes. You are not going there wearing this.'' he stood up and started pacing the damn living room. I looked at Anna and pleaded with her to knock some sense into my brother's conservative mind. ''Babe,'' Anna called him in her sweetest voice. And that got his attention. He stopped pacing and turned towards her. ''Her dress is absolutely fine. I chose the most modest dress for her. Look, her blouse is even full-sleeved.'' she said soothingly, attempting to placate my anxious brother. ''But sweetheart, her skirt is too short.'' I looked down to see that my skirt reached above my knee, which is quite proper given the skirts girls wear to classes. ''Baby. It is fine she is about to find her mate. You can't make choices for her anymore. She has the right to live her life before someone else comes to control it.'' By now they had moved closer to each other and Anna had her hand placed on my brother's cheek. They are talking about me as if I am not here. But I dare not interrupt them as I can see Anna is being successful in persuading my brother. And I swear to god this will be the first and last party I ever attend with my brother. After tonight, I am not going to any parties with him. ''I guess you are right.'' as I heard my brother say it, I did a victory dance in my head. ''Let's go then. But you won't be drinking or eating anything that doesn't come from me.'' He turned and gave me a stern look before turning to Anna again. We both nodded our heads and voiced our agreement at the same time. After that, we went off to the party. Finally. We reached there in half an hour. It was in a luxurious mansion. I looked at it in awe. The mansion was an architectural beauty. The combination of white marble and mahogany was outstanding. ''Whose Mansion is this?'' I asked my brother as we were walking towards it. ''The alpha's.'' I turned my head so fast in his direction I am surprised that I didn't cramp any muscles. ''By Alpha you mean the Alpha of our pack,'' I asked. I don't know, but I am kind of scared of our Alpha. ''Who else stupid.'' my brother chuckled from next to me. ''Why would our Alpha throw a party for a bunch of college students,'' I asked, still not sure what is happening here. ''It's not the Alpha. It's Alpha's son Dylan who is throwing the party and who stays in this mansion.'' My brother explained patiently, as he knows that I don't take much interest in, the pack affairs, although my dad is the beta and my brother is soon to be beta, but still I have never met our future alpha in person. One, he was never around, as he is two years older than me, so he left the pack to attend university. And second, when he was in high school, he used to stay in this mansion only. There are rumors of him being a playboy and womanizer, so I guess that's why he doesn't stay in the pack house with his family just so he can keep his affairs private. I knew about him living in a mansion near his university but I never knew where he went to attend university. But now I know. ''Why did he throw this party?'' I asked my brother. ''I don't know, but he likes to throw parties occasionally.'' He shrugs. My brother and he had been childhood friends since they both knew about their future responsibilities and companionship. But my brother never brought him home. I guess I too must have played with him in my childhood, but I don't remember much. ''Remember no drinking.'' My brother warned before leaving me and Anna alone. ''Thank you so much for tonight, Anna.'' I turned to her and expressed my gratitude. ''No worries.'' she waved me off. The place was buzzing with music. Some were dancing to the beats, some were drinking and some were making out in the bright lights. The place is jam-packed with students. At one point, I was standing there taking my surroundings and the next my breath hitched, and my nose filled with the most delicious aroma of mint and chocolate. I felt a presence behind me and I turned around immediately only to be hit by the most beautiful sight of my life. My eyes met with a pair of the most alluring hazel eyes. Everything around me blurred, the sound of the music faded and fireworks were flying around. He has a big and charming smile plastered on his lips. My feet were taking me closer to him on their own accord. I have never seen a handsome guy like him. Although he is not wearing anything special still he is the most beautiful sight my eyes have ever seen. I don't know what is wrong with me. I have never behaved like that with any other boy around me. It's like I can't take my eyes off of him. Like he has put a kind of spell on me. That's when Maria yelled in my head. Mate
