chapter 2

The fog hadn't completely lifted, and Diego was already in the bathroom. Turning on the water pump and washing clothes. This was his daily routine. Even though Eliza said to go early to his mother's house or go to the market, Diego had to finish the housework first. Especially washing clothes and preparing breakfast. While doing the laundry, Diego used to clean the rest of the dirty dishes. Diego had finished cooking since morning, so he only had to finish the washing up. Diego was surprised when he was about to put the dishes away. He saw Luna at the dining table and was looking at him with a strange look. "Luna, are you awake? You scared me!" he exclaimed. Luna just stayed silent while looking at him blankly. Then she turned to the cup filled with mineral water. Luna drank it down and looked lost in thought. Diego just watched her and didn't dare say a word. It was still too early in the morning to stir up any anger in Luna. The financial problems continued to be a burden to Luna, and she became irritable. Diego understood that very well. And he didn't want to keep fighting every day. Diego placed a plate of fried rice in front of Luna and gave her a cup of warm milk. Soon Eliza came downstairs and Diego handed her another plate of fried rice and warm milk. After that he left the two people and immediately went to Antonella's family mansion. "Are you going to the market now?" Luna suddenly came up behind Diego and startled him. "No, I'm not going to the market today. Your mom asked me to go to Antonella's mansion. Isn't there a celebration today? I'll be there and help in the kitchen," Diego replied. "No. Can you not go there? It'll just be trouble for me!" Luna replied suddenly raising her voice again. "Why Luna? Why don't I go there? At least she'll be useful to my mom." Eliza suddenly came behind them and intervened. It seemed like she heard Luna's words just now. "Mom, don't you get it? Diego's just going to be their bragging rights. Instead of helping, he'll just embarrass us." Luna gave Eliza an annoyed look. "No need! You don't need to go there, Diego! Just go to the market and bring me some money, at least make some money to buy something for my grandmother tonight!" Luna exclaimed then left Diego's presence very upset. Seeing Luna leave, Eliza also left. Diego was left in the backyard feeling confused. He was torn between going to the market or going to Antonella's mansion. But in the end he went to the market instead. Fog was rising from the trees when Diego arrived at the market. The vendors had been busy since earlier. And Diago was ready and had taken off his coat that covered his tattered, beggar-like clothes. Diego deliberately walked to and from the market because he didn't want people to insult him and find out where he lived. Even so, half of the vendors in the market already knew Diego's true identity. Even the market thugs often insult Diego and beat him up. Sometimes they even ask for a share of Diego's daily earnings. "Well, look who just arrived? Did you oversleep, young master Giordino? Ah, no, my dear daughter-in-law Antonela, haha "l," taunted George. Diego ignored George's remark. Instead, he picked up a few pieces of cardboard and placed them on the floor for him to sit on. Not forgetting the full equipment as usual. A small bowl and the cream that made him smell so bad. Even the flies were swarming her immediately. She deliberately stayed away from the vendors, especially the food vendors. She certainly didn't want to disturb their wares. However, the vendors and others were not disgusted by what Diego was doing. They saw Diego like that every day. However, this was not the case with George. He seemed to want to play a prank on him this morning. "Young master Diego, didn't you promise to bring me breakfast? I'm already shaking with hunger!" George said like he was innocent. Diego had never promised George anything. But hearing George's words, he couldn't help but stand up. If he didn't want his day to pass quickly because of the punches that George aimed at his body. George, like Eliza, didn't like to hear no. Diego was forced to move closer to the porridge man who usually hung around them. This time Diego had to persuade the porridge man to give him a bowl of porridge to pay for later in the afternoon. Because this morning, Diego didn't bring a penny as usual. "Hi sir. I'm sorry, I've just arrived at the market and George is already bothering me. Can I get one bowl to pay for at noon? As soon as I get the money, I'll pay for it," Diego politely asked. Luckily for him, all the customers had already gotten their share and they were not bothered by Diego's arrival along with the smell. The merchant just looked at Diego with annoyance. Diego's arrival and the flies that started swarming around him were disturbing. He hurriedly put a portion of porridge into a bag and handed it to Diego. "Hurry up and leave Diego, you're a nuisance!" he said. Diego didn't say a word and quickly took the bag of porridge from the vendor's hand and brought it to George who was waiting for him in the parking lot. George looked happy when he realized Diego had brought him food. George quickly opened the bag of food and prepared to devour it. Seeing this, Diego prepared to leave. Seeing him, George stopped his footsteps. "Where are you going, Diego? I haven't even enjoyed my food yet and you're leaving. Wait a minute," George said even more nosily. Diego stopped walking and looked at George with great annoyance. The market was getting crowded and he should have been sitting at his place. Because of George's arrival, he was forced to obey his will. He should have had a few dollars in his little bowl. Looking at Diego who seemed to be obeying him, George smiled happily. He then took a large spoon and spooned the porridge into his mouth. Just as it touched his tongue, he spit it back out and hit Diego in the face. "Hueeek!" "Gosh, what kind of food are you giving me, Diego? It's so salty! Did you give me 1 kg of salt to make the food this salty?" cursed George in annoyance. "I... I don't know George. I didn't do anything. It was the vendor who..." "Buuugh!" A punch hit Diego in the stomach and knocked him out cold. Then another went to his left cheek, and another to his chest. Diego was knocked down with three punches at once. The visitors and vendors at the market were used to seeing this kind of scene. George beating someone early in the morning for who knows what reason was a common sight to them. Stopping him was just looking for a fight with him. There was no stopping George from beating Diego until the young man was on the ground. Knowing that his opponent was no longer moving and was already on the ground, George left him with curses coming out of his mouth. "Diego. Diego, wake up!" Diego opened his eyes slowly. The pain was in his eyes and at the corners of his lips. He was sure that his face was covered in bruises. In front of him, a middle-aged woman selling packaged rice showed a concerned and worried face. "Aunt Hong?" "Get up and go home, Diego. You'd better go home and rest!" Aunt Hong said as she helped Diego up. "No, Auntie. Yesterday I earned a little deposit. Today I should earn more. Besides, we have to buy a present for Mrs. Antonella. I can't go home now," Diego refused. "Hah that's it then. Let me help you get back to your place. Why are you messing with George so early in the morning? You know, he doesn't like to be argued with." "I didn't do anything Auntie. He asked me to give him breakfast and I did. I don't know what happened to the porridge, I don't think George liked it," Diego explained. "Diego. Are you okay?" Uncle Lucky, the man who sold Diego the breakfast porridge, came stumbling in with a face as worried as Auntie Hong's. "What's good? Did you see what George did to Diego? What porridge did you give Diego earlier? Did you do that on purpose?" Hong snapped angrily. "I'm really sorry, Diego. I didn't realize. I didn't mean to. I didn't mean it. I didn't see that I put the salt in. I really didn't mean to. I was in a hurry to tell you to leave. You know, because every time you come closer, the flies come closer, sometimes your body odor doesn't go away even though you've been gone for a long time, I'm really sorry Diego."
