Time Alone, Like The Old Days

I didn't sleep well that night, I kept thinking about how sad Zack looked with me dancing with Lucas. I sigh and roll over on my back "You're still awake?" I hear from the other side of me. "Yeah, can't sleep" I reply looking at my phone it was 2:45am. "What's on your mind, Zack, Lucas or both?" Jess asks. "Both" I reply. "I want to get closer to Lucas, but I don't want to hurt Zack's feelings or push him away since I know they are not friends". "I got an idea, but you should talk to Zack first though" she replies. Jess had peaked my interest, she usually gives really good advice. "please do tell" I ask. "well, we all could hangout some night, including Lucas. Maybe Zack will ease up if he actually gets to know him a bit". She was right. "That might actually work, I'll talk to him tonight when he comes over" I reply feeling better. I just hope Zack goes for it. "I know Zack is just looking out for you Sam, don't beat yourself over making new friends, Zack knows how important he is to you, he just doesn't want to see anyone hurt you". "I know, I still feel bad though." I reply. "Don't, you two will hangout and you'll feel better" she replies, I can sense her smiling at me in the dark. I eventually pass out.

I wake up around 10am Jess was already up, she was on her phone. "Morning, you hungry?" I ask. "Starved actually" she replies. I giggle walk to the bathroom to have a pee and wash up, and make my way upstairs to make something to eat. Mom had lot's of fruit in the fridge, I decided to make eggs, sausages with strawberries, bananas and honeydew on the side. We ate, made coffee and wandered back downstairs to get some homework done before I drive Jess home. We actually got our homework done, so we sat and watched an episode of One Tree Hill. I love that show, my parents got me the box set of the nine seasons for Christmas a few years back.

After the episode it was after 2pm, I drove Jess home "Let me know how you make out with Zack tonight" she says getting out the car. I smile "Will do". I get home, I decide to do my laundry today, I strip my bed I take off my purple and white polka dots,dark purple sheets, and pillow cases off the bed I put them in the wash, I walk to my walk in closet, and grab my other blanket set from the top shelf. This set was orange and white flowers with bright orange sheets and pillow cases. I decide to go make a smoothie with strawberries, bananas and blueberries, and watch another episode of One Tree Hill awhile the washer finishes. I put the bedding from the washer in the dryer, and decide to jump in the shower before starting another load of laundry of my clothes.

Deciding what to wear was a hassle, it was getting too cold for shorts, I wasn't feeling jeans my phone went off it was from Zack I was already smiling before I even opened the text

Hey, you want to go out for supper first ?

Hey, yes that would be awesome. Oh bad news though, I finished my homework with Jess earlier.

Hahaha, that's okay I finished mine this morning too I would rather just relax then do homework

Oh, sweet ! Yes, agreed I'm actually getting ready now, if you want to give me like 20 minutes before coming over

Yeah, that's no problem. See you then.

Zack always got me, made me feel special like our friendship was pure and perfect.

I decided on a highlighter yellow t shirt with a panda bear on the front that said "I'm not short I'm fun sized" with white capris pants, white and black nike sandals, with my hair in low pony tail. Zack walked in just as a finished fixing my hair. "Oh jeez, you scared me" I said "Sorry, didn't mean to" he replies leaning against my bedroom door. "What did you want to eat?" he adds. "We can just grab takeout and come back here?" I ask. "Yeah, that's fine" he replies with a smile. It didn't matter what I wanted to do, he would always agree. My phone went off as we were walking to Zacks jeep, it was from Lucas

Hey, what's up?

Hey, not much heading out with Zack, you?

Oh nice. I forgot you had plans tonight. Are you going to be with him for most of the night?

Yeah, sorry.

It's fine. I was going to stop by for a bit. I'll text you tomorrow then.

A part of me felt bad, I don't like hurting anyone's feelings. Zack seen I was looking kind of bummed out. "You okay?" he asks giving me a concerned look. "Yeah, I'm fine. Lucas texted me." I reply. I could feel Zack's look turn to stone. "Hey, forget it, let's go" I tell him giving him a convincing look. "Yeah kay" he replies.

Zack pulls into a cute take out place called Culligans I ate here before, the food is delicious. I ordered chicken fingers and a poutine, Zack went for the double cheeseburger and onion rings we head back to my place and decide to eat outside on the back step. We have a nice setup with a huge round table and 6 chairs that had a screen tent around it, no bugs.

After we eat, "you want to walk down to the beach?" I ask. "Yeah, sure before it gets too cold to go down there anymore" he replies with a smile. It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach we sit next to each other on the sand looking out to the water. "It's so peaceful here, I could sit here forever" I said closing my eyes letting the sound of the waves take me away. "Same" he replies. We sit in silence for a bit " Zack, your my best friend, and I know you will be honest with me if I ever ask you anything. What's the deal with Lucas?" he looks at me shocked by my question. "You mean, why I don't like him?" he asks. Bingo, he is honest. "Yes" I reply. He looks back into the water " He was never nice to me, he use to pick on me in middle school, and I've seen the way he treats girls," now looking at me he adds "I don't want you to be mixed up with that s**t Sam. You're worth more then that". I wanted to cry, my heart melted, he cares about me so much. I put my head on his shoulder "I couldn't have a better person in my life, thank you for being you" I tell him. He rests his head on mine we just sat there for close to an hour, it was starting to get cold, and dark. We headed back up to my place.

We decided on a really old movie called bad moon, I love werewolf movies. I made us some popcorn and grabbed some water from the fridge and got all comfortable in my bed.  "Oh, there is something else I wanted to ask you" I remembered what Jess had suggested. "What's that?" he asked "If I asked Lucas to hangout some night with all of us, would you be alright with that?" I asked. Zack laughed "You're joking right?" " No" I reply, "Please Zack do it for me, I just want to see if he will actually try and be friendly with you". He lets out a long sigh "Fine, I'll do it for you" he replies. I give him a hug "Thank you" smiling at him.

After the movie ended it was 10:35pm. "We can watch another movie if you want?" I ask. "Yeah, that's fine" he replies going threw my collection. "How about cabin fever?" "Yes" I said getting up to go to the bathroom "be right back" I add.

We both must have fell asleep before the movie ended, I woke up to my head resting on Zacks chest I rolled over to see it was 6:17am. "Oh crap" I say out loud scaring Zack, who jumped up. "Sorry, guess I fell asleep" he says looking at his phone "My mom called me, I should call her back" he said sitting on the bed. "It's okay" I reply heading to the bathroom. As I come out of the bathroom Zack was walking out of my bedroom "My mom was worried, I explained what happened, but I should go, thanks for spending the time with me like we use to" he says "No, thank you Zack" giving him a hug before leaving.

Shit, I should text Jess I think to myself heading upstairs to make a coffee, and make some toast with peanut butter.

Hey, sorry I didn't text you last night, I talked to Zack and he will hangout with Lucas. Oh, and Zack slept over last night.

Yay, so you two are good then?

Yeah. I come to realize he truly cares for me Jess.

No s**t, your only cluing in now. That boy would do anything for you.

I know, I just hope it's not awkward when we all hangout. Which next step is talking to Lucas about it.

Oh, I'm sure he will be down too. As long as he gets to hangout with you.

I didn't really know what to say back to her comment so I changed the subject

Hey, I decided I'm going to stay home today and just relax. I'll see you at school.

I felt like I needed to have a day where I do nothing but be lazy for a change.
