I Want You

First Dance

I was sitting in my last period class waiting for the final bell to ring, Brrrrriiiiinnnnnnggggg echoed throughout the school, yes finally school was out for the weekend. This week flew. Lucas and I texted on and off all week, he kept asking me to be his date tonight for the dance, I told him no, but I also told him I'd save a dance for him. I walked to my locker, I could see Jess and Austin at her locker which was across the hall from mine. "Hey, Sammy" I hear from behind me as I opened my locker, I knew who it was without even having to turn around "What's up Lucas?"  he was now leaned against the locker next to me, I could feel Jess and Austin watching us."So, did you want to meet up before the dance and all go together?" he asks. I look at him "I'd love to, but Jess and I are getting ready together at my place, I promised Zack we'd go with him and Austin, Sorry". He seems a little disappointed "It's okay, I'll see you at the dance then, I'll be looking for my dance Sam" he replies. I had to give out a little laugh "Don't worry Lucas, you'll get your dance as promised"  I said to him as he smiles and walks out the front doors. As he's walking away Jess, Austin and Zack are walking to my locker. "You two seem to be getting quite close" Jess says elbowing me in the ribs making me jump a little. "Just friends Jess" I tell her giving her a look. "What time should Austin and I head to your place at?" Zack asks obviously changing the subject.I close my locker door and we start walking out the doors "The dance is at 7,  so how about 6:45ish?" I reply. "We can all hangout for a bit before heading back here". I add."Works for me" Zack replies with a smile, I smile back, Jess and Austin give a kiss to each other then Jess runs behind me to my car.

Jess and I get to my place, mom and dad are already gone for their weekend getaway, but mom left a note on the island in the kitchen

Hey honey, there is scallop potatoes and ham in the fridge for you and Jess for supper. Have fun at the dance tonight be good, see you Sunday. Love, mom xoxox

I open the fridge door, and grabbed the food out, as Jess grabs plates from the cupboard we heat the food up, eat, clean up and head downstairs to put music on and do a bit of homework before getting ready for the dance."Zack really must not like Lucas does he?" Jess asks. I shrug my shoulders " we don't talk about him to be honest I can tell by the look on his face when he see's me and Lucas talking it bothers him". "Maybe Zack is being protective of you" Jess jokingly says." Zack's my best friend, no need to be protective, it's not like me and Lucas are going anywhere" I reply. "Or so you say right now" Jess says with a smirk on her face." What is that suppose to mean?" I reply. "Come on Sam, I think everyone can tell he's into you, he probably knows he can't have you right now, so being your friend is better then nothing and maybe Zack feels threatened that you won't be his friend anymore " she says being all serious now. I sigh and look down at my text book for Math class "I don't really know what to say, Zack will come before Lucas" I reply getting up, walking around my bed towards my walk in closet. "I guess we can start getting ready now" I say giving Jess a small smile. "Yes, sounds good" she replies.

We get ready, has on her sequence top with a pair of black leggings with rips from the knee cap up to the upper leg I let her borrow, I had on my brown halter top with dark blue jeans with rips in them at the knee caps. Jess has beautiful natural wavy hair, she decides to damp her hair a bit, and add some mousse and hairspray to bring out more curls and leave her hair down. My hair on the other hand is straight, so I decide to do a  little bump with my bangs and leave the rest down. I text Zack as we are  picking out footwear

Hey, we are just about ready, if you guys want to come over now

Hey, sure we are on our way he replies.

Jess is sitting on my floor in the closet "Should I wear heels, or sandals with a little heel?" she asks holding a shoe in each hand. "The sandals might be a little easier on the feet" I reply putting on brown flip flops. Jess doesn't really wear heels." Thanks" she replies.

Within a few minutes the boys walk into my bedroom. "Seems like it's been awhile since I've been in here" Austin says sitting on the bed "We don't really hangout here much that's why" I reply. We all sit around talking about plans for tomorrow. Jess and Austin are going to the movies, Zack and I decided to hangout here do homework and watch a movie. It's been awhile since Zack and I hung out alone, it's always the four of us."We should probably get going, it's 7:05pm" Jess says looking at the time "Oh s**t, guess we lost track of time" I reply.The four of us head out, and all get into Zacks jeep. Jess and Austin get in the back, I get in the passenger seat while Zack drives.

We get to the school, the gym entrance for the dance is lined up by at least twenty people. We walk over to the end of the line, but the line moves quite fast I noticed one of the girls in front of us, the girl with the short blonde hair in two of my classes, she looks back at us but she seems to be looking at Zack. "Hi" she says. "Hey" he replies back. We finally get into the dance Jess pulls me to the floor immediately the dj is playing On the floor by J LO and pitbull some oldies but goodies in my opinion. As we are dancing I see Lucas and his friend Nathan walk in. Lucas is looking around, probably looking for me he finally catches me and has a big smile on his face. After a few good dancy tunes, the dj slows it down by playing Frequency by Feeder. Jess runs to Austin, I go over to Zack "You wanna dance?" I ask him. "Of course" he replies with a smile. Zack puts his hands on my lower back, I put my arms around his neck I have my head resting on his shoulder the song seemed to have ended a lot sooner then I have hoped, I always enjoyed dancing with Zack he makes me feel like the music can take my soul. As Gravity by Metric started playing we let each other go "Take a break?" he asks. "Yeah" I reply following him towards the bleachers to have a seat. Jess and Austin had the same idea they were coming behind us. As me and Jess sat down  Zack and Austin went to get us a bottle of water. The boys returned "Thank you" I say to Zack as he hands me a bottle of water.

After taking a little break Jess and I get back to the dance floor to continue our fun night. As the dance was coming to an end Lucas approaches us, he randomly starts dancing with us I just went with it. Of course cha cha slide had to come on Lucas was trying so hard to do the dance, Jess was literally laughing so hard she almost ended up pissing her pants "Oh my god, this is the funniest s**t I've seen" she says holding her stomach "We'll at least he's trying" I reply holding in my laugh. Lucas really seemed to be enjoying himself. I caught myself watching him with a smile on my face.The dj announced the last two songs were being played to wrap up the dance. The first song was We found love by Rihanna, we made Zack and Austin joins us Austin don't mind dancing, Zack hates it but he does it anyway. Then came the last slow song for the closing the dj selected  Stop crying your heart out by Oasis. One of the only songs that make me tear up a bit. "May I have the last dance?" Lucas asks. I can sense Zack feeling confused, I wanted to say no but I did promise. "I suppose, a promise is a promise" I reply. Lucas grabs my hand and swings me around, he puts his hands on my lower back pulling me in close I sigh and put my arms around his neck. Having his arms around me felt nice, but a little weird as I've danced with Zack for the last four school dances. I can't help but look over at the bleachers where Zack was sitting he was sitting alone, looking down at the floor, I thought I seen him look up at me but wasn't 100% sure. I think Lucas sensed I was distracted " You look very nice tonight" he says in my ear making me jump. I look up at him "Thanks". "I know this is probably weird for you, but I very much appreciate it" he says squeezing me a bit, I give lucas a smile. "No problem." "You busy the rest of the weekend?" he asks. "I got plans with Zack tomorrow" I reply. "I see, maybe Sunday we can hangout"? he asks. "Maybe, I'll let you know" I reply giving a small smile. The song finally ended I was kind of sad when Lucas let me go. "I'll text you tomorrow" Lucas says touching my shoulder before walking away. I walk over to Zack who is now standing by the door completely avoiding Lucas as he walks by him. He gives me a small smile as I stand next to him and place my arm on his shoulder. Jess and Austin make there way to us and the four of us head back to Zacks jeep.

The drive back to my place was quiet. As Zack pulls into my driveway, Jess and Austin were talking in the back seat I look at Zack " Let's talk outside for a minute" "Okay" he replies looking kind of shocked. We walk over to the front of my car and sit on the hood. "Are you okay, you seemed to have gotten pretty quiet before the dance ended?" I asked."I'm fine, just surprised how close you and Lucas seem to be getting, you don't really talk all that much at school" he replies. I let out a sigh "Not really no, we are just friends he asked me to be his date for the dance, I rejected his invite but I did promise to have a dance with him, you are my best friend" I say giving him a nudge in the arm making him smile. "Besides we are going to have a blast hanging out tomorrow" I add. "I guess" he replies smirking which makes my heart beat a little faster. He puts one arm around me, pulls me in for a tight hug I smile looking up at him. Jess and Austin get out the jeep and walk over to us "Isn't that cute" Austin says with a huge smile on his face, Jess can't help but smile. Zack and I get off the hood of the car "We'll I guess I'll see you tomorrow then" Zack says giving me a quick smile before walking back to his jeep with Austin "Night" I yell out to them.
