The hangout

1906 Words
I drove Jess home just after 9am after we had some eggs and toast for breakfast. "Thanks for letting me crash again last night Sam" she said just before getting out of the car "No problem Jess, see you in the morning".  I had to do laundry and finish homework hopefully before my parents get home. As I made a coffee, and put a load of laundry in the wash my phone went off, I was surprised to see it was from Lucas. Morning, I was sad to see you leave last night but super happy you showed up. I couldn't help but smile as I read the text Morning, I had so much fun. Thanks for inviting me I reply. Well, I guess we will need to hangout more often then... How about today ? I don't know if I should, I have homework to finish. It's not going to take you all day to finish homework, and besides not like I'm not going to keep you busy for a long time or anything. I just thought it would be nice to hangout alone to talk for a bit. Fine, as long as you promise not to keep me out too long. I promise.  I'll text you later on this afternoon. I didn't reply I was too busy thinking to myself, what the hell did I get myself into. After my laundry was finished in the washer I threw my clothes in the dryer, I was pretty much done my homework at that point, so decided to jump in the shower. I wanted to look half decent for Lucas, which really surprised me because I never cared what I looked like for people. I wore a white t shirt with baby blue strips along the sleeves that had the number 82 on the front that was also in baby blue, and medium light blue jeans that had rips and holes in them. I also picked out a pair of white and blue DC skateboarding shoes. I was really undecided with my hair, after about 20 minutes it was a messy high bun. I heard footsteps upstairs, my parents were home, I looked at the clock it was 12:40pm. I went upstairs to greet them. "Hi honey, wow I'm not use to seeing you dressed on a Sunday unless you were going out". "Hey mom, I'm just finishing my laundry, and my homework is almost all done. Don't really have much planned besides for Lucas wanting to hangout". I caught myself as his name came out of my mouth, I didn't tell my her about him, and she seemed very interested. "Who's Lucas?"  "A guy in some of my classes" I reply."Don't give me that look mom, it's not what you think we are just talking" I add. "Well, I hope to meet him soon" she replies. I sigh and head back downstairs to take my clothes out the dryer, to fold and put away. It was now 1:30pm, I had finished my homework, my phone went off I already knew it was Lucas texting me. Hey, are you ready? Yes I reply. Sweet, what's your address? 106, on the same street as you What the hell, you literally live down the road from me. I'll be there in a few minutes. I waited upstairs for him, I seen his truck pull in my driveway he rang the door bell, I opened the door. "Hey, again so soon" he says with a smile. "Hey, I smile back. My mom snuck up behind me "Oh, you must be Lucas, hi, I'm Sam's mother, Sandra". She stuck her hand out for Lucas to shake her hand, he did and replied "Hi, yes you can call me Luc, nice to meet you"." We are going to have some hamburgers on the BBQ for supper, if you would like to join us" she says with a smile. Lucas looks at me with to make sure it was okay I grin at him "Yeah, sure thanks for the invite". She smiles as she walks away. "Your mom seems really chill, reminds me of you" Lucas says smiling at me. "Well, you know where I get it from then" I reply. We walk out the door towards his truck, he opens the truck door for me, "you don't need to do that" I said looking at him. "I don't need to, but maybe I want to" he says smiling. As he gets into the truck I ask "Where are we going anyway?" "You'll see" he replies while smirking. Lucas drives a good half hour before we get to out destination. I look around it's such a small little place, there was a coffee shop, with a corner store across the road, I can see a gas station down the road as well as a fire station and little houses scattered everywhere. There wasn't much here but it was peaceful. We get out of the truck, "Let's grab a coffee or something to drink" he says. "Sure" I reply with a smile still looking around. He orders himself a medium double double coffee, I ordered a medium iced coffee " I got it" he says not letting me pay. I sigh "Okay, thanks" we walk out of the coffee shop and walk behind the store, there was a small playground and some picnic tables, we take a seat " So, your mom knows about me he?" he asks grinning. "Not like you think Lucas, she asked what my plans were today told her I was hanging with you."I said giving him a stern look. "I see, nothing wrong with that then" he replies. "Besides, we are friends" he adds he smiles but is looking down fiddling with his lid on his coffee cup. "Yeah, we are" I reply with a smile. "I've never been here before" I add trying to get his mind off whatever it was on. He looks up at me "Good, I was hoping you never been here before, I wanted this to be kind of special".  I was shocked by his response "What do you mean by that?" I ask. "Well, I wanted the first time we hangout to be different" he replies shyly. I can feel my face getting a little flush "This is great thank you" I said with a warming smile towards him. Jess was right he does seem really nice.  My phone buzzed in my pocket making me jump, a text from Jess Hey, what's up? Hey, I'm hanging out with Lucas, you? WHAT, are you serious? I' want details later I'll text you later on. "Sorry Jess texted me" I tell him. "It's okay" he replies with a smile."You ready to head back? I promised I wouldn't keep you all day" he adds. "Yeah, I'm sure supper will be ready soon anyway" I reply getting up. The drive back we ended up talking about his ex girlfriend Cameron, he talked about how he wasn't allowed to have any female friends, and made sure he kept his circle of male friends small "She made me feel like I was her toy, strung me along, and I'm pretty sure she was cheating on me, but never had the proof. She ended up dumping me through a text three days after she left. I wasn't even hurt by it, she hurt me more by doing what she was doing, a part of me was glad she was gone and out of my life. I've been so much happier then the last year I was with her. That's why I never talked to you at all or made it seem you didn't exist Sammy, I just didn't want to deal with her bitching about it. Trust me it's not like I didn't want to, because I did". I felt so bad for him, it made me hate her for treating him like s**t. Lucas opening up to me about something so personal made me be able to trust him a bit more. "I'm sorry you went through that Lucas. Karma is b***h, she'll her her own" I tell him putting my hand on his shoulder. "My ex treated me pretty bad too, he was my first crush, he was cheating on me with my best friend for a long time before I found out, all because I wouldn't sleep with him. I ended up showing up at his place by surprise and found them together in his bed. I was beyond pissed, I needed far away from that place, thank god summer just started. And that's why I moved here" I was a little embarrassed I told Lucas about my relationship problems, but I felt better telling him. "A guy would have to be beyond stupid to ever cheat on someone like you Sam, your funny, down to earth, smart, and out of this world beautiful, why do you think I was glad Cameron was gone, that was my chance to get to know you" he says to me the whole time I thought I was going to be sick, my stomach felt like it was doing back flips, and couldn't say anything. I didn't even realize we were back at my place. We walk into the house my mom and dad are both out on the back step finishing the BBQ " perfect timing" my mom looks at me as we both walk out the back patio door. My father gives Lucas a hard look "Dad this is Lucas one of my classmates, Lucas this is my father, Bryan". They shake hands, then we all sat down to eat. The hamburgers were delicious, I had mine with cheese, mustard and relish.I took two on my plate, but didn't finish the second one. Lucas had no problem eating three hamburgers. I help mom clean up, Lucas pitches in as he finishes his third hamburger " Thanks so much for supper" he tells my mom. "No problem dear, you can come back anytime" she replies smiling at him. "I suppose I should probably get home" Lucas says heading towards the door " I'll walk you out" I say running behind him."Thanks again for today, it was nice" I tell him.He smiles hard at me "Thanks for letting me take you out for a bit Sam, we need to do that more" "Yeah, that would be great" I reply. Before I know it he's pulling me in for a hug, a part of me wanted to push him off me, but couldn't bring myself to do it a part of me wanted his arms around me. I hug him back. He let's me go " see you tomorrow" and walks out the door. I head downstairs to text Jess back Hey, sorry Lucas just went home, my mom invited him to stay for supper. Wow, she met him. That must have been awkward. How was your day with him anyway? Nah, it wasn't too bad both mom and dad seem to like him. The day was great he took me to a small town half hour away, we sat in a park and talked for awhile. You were right Jess he is really nice. I figured you would find out yourself if he was nice or not. I'm happy for you. Thanks, he gave me a hug before he left, a part of me wanted to tell him no, but I just ended up hugging him back. Aww Sam :) It's a start to a beautiful friendship I think Haha, maybe. Anyway, I'll talk to you in the morning. Night
