I Want You

Finally Friday

The rest of the week flew, which I'm not complaining about, Lucas left me alone I was glad but at the same time kind of sad.

The final bell rang, I made my way to my locker. Jess and Austin were walking down the hall holding hands, they stopped at my locker as I was grabbing my books for homework over the weekend. Zack made his way over to us. "We all still on tonight" Zack asks. "Yes, I'm staying at Sam's tonight, I already got my bag packed, and in her car". Jess says smiling. Zack looks at me and smiles. I smile back throwing my book bag over my shoulder. As we walk out of the school, "I will see you guys at Zack's later" Austin says giving Jess a quick kiss before heading to his car. "Bye, see you after" Jess yells after him. As we are walking to my car, I seen a black truck parked in front of my car, and Lucas is leaning on my hood. "Can I help you?" I ask him giving him a stern look. "He makes eye contact, smiling. "I gave it a lot of thought this week, and I can't seem to get my mind off you, I tried to avoid you, but it's not working". I give out a sigh, and I can feel my heartbeat starting to race a little bit. "Try harder" I reply trying to avoid looking at him. "This is awkward, I'm just going to wait in the car, you should talk to him" Jess advises. I manage to look at Lucas who is now looking down.I walk to the front of my car and sit next to him on the hood " Look, I don't really know you, and I have no interest in getting too close to anyone right now" I say giving out a sigh. " I know, but it doesn't stop me from trying to get to know you better" he replies. "Besides can you blame me I've seen you around, the way you act with your friends, living life, having fun, maybe I want to be a part of that to have a friend like you" he adds. I can't help but smile and blush a little bit. He notices my face going red and he let's out a small laugh. "Fine, I guess we can be friends" I say still smiling. "You busy all weekend?"  he asks. "Pretty much, besides for Sunday" I reply. "Well maybe we can hang a bit then if you want" he says but the way he said it makes me feel like he wants to. "Maybe I'll let you know, oh I suppose I can give you my number" I tell him. "Oh, so now you're actually giving it out" he says smiling. "Yeah, you could have just asked me yourself" I say jokingly. He blushes "Yeah, sorry. Guess I really wanted to have it" I shake my head smiling, giving him my number. "I should probably be getting home, I don't want to leave Jess hanging any longer". "Okay, I'll text you" he says walking towards his truck. "See you around Sammy" he adds with a smile. The way he says my name I can feel my heart flutter a little bit oh god, this can't be happening I think to myself getting into my car. "Wow, Sammy, I think someone has an eye on you" Jess says as I get in the car "Nah, I think he just wants to be friends" I reply driving out of the school parking lot. I can feel Jess smiling looking out the window. "Besides, he's not my type" I add. "Do you even have a type, I mean don't take this the wrong way but you run away from guys who try to ask you out on a date" Jess says having a look on her face like she may have crossed a line. I let out a sigh "I'm just not ready or have any interest in dating anyone right now, I'm doing fine doing what I'm doing now" I reply. Jess dropped the topic.

We get back to my place, mom and dad were just on their way out for the weekend. "Hey hun, I made you girls some macaroni casserole and ceasar salad for supper, it's in the fridge" mom says. "Thanks mom" I reply. "Any plans this weekend?" mom asks. "Going to Zack's, then Jess is staying over, and homework  and shopping tomorrow" I reply. "Okay, have fun and I'll see you Sunday" mom says giving me a quick hug with dad behind her giving me a hug as well.

After we ate, we hung out in my bedroom watching re runs of the hills on tv until Zack texted. My phone went off, I got a text from Lucas.

Hey, thanks for talking to me and giving me your number

Hey, no problem I text back

I just wanted to ask if you and your friends wanted to swing by my place tomorrow night, having a few friends over for a little party

Jess must have noticed I had a little smile on my face. "That can't be Zack that texted" she asks. "No, Lucas, he asked if we wanted to go to his place tomorrow night for a small party" I reply. "Ou a party" she replies with a chuckle. I roll my eyes at her. "I'm sure Austin wouldn't mind, and Zack would go for the sake of you, but it's up to you". she says.

Jess seems to be all for it, Austin won't mind going to a party, I'll let you know for sure tomorrow I texted back to Lucas

Well I hope you do show up it will be fun

I didn't text him back. After a few minutes my phone went off again this time it was Zack

Hey, Austin is on his way over now, you girls can come any time

"Times good" I look at Jess "Austin is on his way to Zacks now" I add "Let's go" she says jumping off the bed.

We are on our way now I texted back to Zack

We pulled into Zack's driveway, both Zack and Austin are on the steps talking. "So, what's the plan for tonight?" I ask walking towards the boys. "Well, how about going for a drive, getting some ice cream and taking a walk down by the boardwalks" Zack suggests. "That works" I reply with a smile, knowing Jess and Austin don't care what we do as long as they are with each other. I get into the passenger seat of Zack's jeep, Jess and Austin are in the back seat, she's got her head rested on his shoulder. Zack looks back at them shaking his head smirking.

We drive a good 20 minutes into town and stop at an ice cream parlour called Tasty Treats. I get a small soft chocolate ice cream in a cup with skor pieces in it "Mmm my favourite" I mumble as I'm already digging into the ice cream. Zack gets a small swirl in a cup that has both chocolate and vanilla, Jess gets a small cotton candy in a cup, and Austin goes for the soft banana in a cup. We make our way to the boardwalk that is along the river, which will be closed soon as the weather will start to get cold. I hate cold weather. "We should start making plans for the cooler weather" Zacks says. " We have to play in the corn field again like last year" Jess suggests. I remember tagging along last year I ruined a pair of pants and a bruised wrist from tripping over corn. "I'm down, I'll just make sure to wear old pants this time" I reply. "Oh yeah, I remember what happened" Jess says laughing."We will have to scare the girls for Halloween too" Austin says smirking."I can think of a few good ideas" Zack response. Oh god, I can just imagine what he has planned. We stopped at a picnic table, Jess and Austin are making out so I go over to the railing looking over the water letting the breeze hit me in the face. I should have brought a sweater, the breeze off the water and ice cream made me cold. Zack walks up to me and hands me his sweater. "Here" he says " you look like you need this more then I do right now" smiling. "I return the smile "Thanks, I didn't think I'd need one". I got lost looking at Zack for a moment, he's always there for me, everyday I'm thankful we are as close as we are. I can't imagine my life without him in it. Zack was looking out in the water too as I catch myself staring at him, I finally look back out to the water and put his sweater on, I can feel my insides get that warm feeling. We stood there not saying anything for the longest time. "Hey, you guys ready to head back" I hear from behind us. Zack looks at me "You ready?" I sigh looking out into the water "Yeah".

The drive home was quiet I think everyone was tired. As we get back to Zack's we are all standing in his driveway "Oh yeah, about tomorrow night, who's wanting to go to a small party?" Jess asks. By the look on Austin's face he already knew or was already invited. "Ah, you girls were invited to Lucas's?" Austin replies. "She was" Jess says looking at me. Zack has this look on his face like he really didn't want to go, him and Lucas weren't exactly friends or really got along. "I figured, he's been trying to talk to you all week" Austin says chuckling. "I was planning on going for a bit" he adds. "I'll go too, you should come too Sammy, just for a bit" Jess advises. I look at Zack who shrugs his shoulders at me. "Fine, but I'm not staying, and if anything happens that makes me uncomfortable, I'm leaving" I said very sternly. Zack seem kind of disappointed by my decision."I guess we are going then" he replies and walks towards his house. Jess and Austin said goodnight and we all went home.
