MY parents and I let go of each other. I looked around the ballroom, and everyone looks confused as to what is happening. My mom looked at me and patted my face gently with a tissue.
Mom: “You shouldn’t be crying, you’ll ruin your makeup. Look at how pretty you are.”
She then turned to my dad and said, “Honey, doesn’t Jessica look gorgeous?”
Dad: “Jessica is always gorgeous, with or without makeup.”
I have heard my dad tell me this before, and he used to discourage me from wearing makeup. He even said that I look better without makeup.
My mom took my hand and pulled me to the middle of the stage. She then handed me the plaque and posed for some pictures with my dad. She had me stay next to her until after the remaining awards were given out. I kept glancing at my b
