On the way to the courthouse the Chief of Police stopped Marsha. “They may take the case away from you. They won’t take it away from the Sheriff. I can guarantee you that.” “That’s good to know. I am sure everyone will get a share to chew on.” “You don’t know the Sheriff very well, do you?” “No Sir, I don’t.” “He was a city police officer when Beverly’s Daddy was killed. Deputy Farmer pulled in first. The Sheriff was the one that went around back. When Deputy Farmer was shot out front the Sheriff stayed in the back. He didn’t know he had been shot.” “That’s standard operating procedure isn’t it?” “Yes Ma’am, it is, but the Sheriff feels like he should have gone to the front and helped deputy Farmer.
