Meeting

"So, your family has that in your blood line?" Verette seem unconvinced.

Verette look at him, paying attention to his expressionless face.

"Uh, yes." Rai answered, unsure of what is the deal with her.

"Even girls?" she ask to confirm the truth.

Verette does not seem to be convince, Rai had a troubled look in his face as Verette look at him intensely.

"Even girls" he answered with troubled expression.

"O-okay" she stuttered as she was taken back to her senses.

Rai made a quick glance at the sky. After seeing that it got dark quite fast, he scratch his head.

"Its getting really dark, I'll walk you to your dorm" Rai said as he walk the opposite direction.

He offered her a company back to the girls’ dorm.

"No, I can manage it" Verette was so surprised that she instinctively declined his offer.

Rai did not listen and pass by her.

"That’s a no, I heard it from Charles. What you guys were doing so its dangerous to be alone" his purple eyes glow in the dark as he told Verette.

"Oh, thank you" she answered after she felt the dominance in his voice.

Verette blushed as they walked together to her dorm. Her dorm was in the east side of town near the mountains.

Rai had his eyes on the road the entire time while Verette only looked at Rai, they talk about small stuff as they walk on the road.

"What happened two years ago?" Verette tried to ask.

Her curiosity forced her to ask what happened two years ago. Rai’s expression did not change after hearing the same question like the others before him.

"Why are you interested?" Rai ask her in return.

"I just want to know, the others won’t tell me about it. Do you not want to talk about it as well?" she said in a soft tone.

"No, on the contrary I’m pretty open about it." he corrected.

This shook Verette, what had happened two years ago that everyone decided not to talk about and what’s surprising is that the one who is involved does not see it as a big of a trouble.

"So can you tell me about it?" she asked with her face brimming with curiosity.

Rai glanced at her for the first time as they walked. Verette quickly averted her eyes on the road.

"It was the time when I was still an i***t. I fell in love with Charlotte, I was head over heels for her. But every time I give her my offering she kept rejecting me." he narrated.

As Rai talked about what happened two years ago, Verette looked at him with a sad expression.

"I showed her, I told her how much I loved her a a thousand time. I started courting her when we were 10. So it pretty much lasted for 5 years, I never thought she would get annoyed by it. We were childhood friends, so I think she could understand my persistence, but I was wrong. I now think, that those were the darkest years of my life. I did things that brought shame to my family, I did those things a dozen of times to the point where my parents would throw me away for good. Saying"You are the one who is suppose to charm her with your eyes not the other way around!"" he said as they continued to walk.

Rai told Verette about everything that had happened in the past two years. Verette wore a sad expression the whole time. And as for Rai, he did not show anything, not a hint of anger can be found in his face.

"So that’s what happened." she said in a sad voice.

Verette regret asking Rai about something so personal. She look down as he they continued to walk.

"Wow, I never met someone so desperate as you." she praised Rai while looking down.

Rai gloom as he heard Verette's comment about him.

Verette looked at him and smile

"I meant it in a good way. Take it as a compliment" she corrected the misunderstanding that her comment made.

"Well, thanks. You are the first time to tell me that. Whenever I tell someone about that , they would call me either a creep or weird." Rai smiled as he thanked Verette.

Verette caught a glance of him smiling and it made her blush.

"You know, smiling suits you better than your calm and stoic expression." she suggested as she smile.

Rai gazed at her while smiling, then his smile slowly faded. His usual stoic expression returned. Verette stopped in front of her dorm and Rai did as well.

"Why?"

"I can’t go back to my old self anymore. I hate myself, I hate the idea of reverting back to who I once was."

"But it suits you better" she said with a smile.

"......"

"If only I was the one whom you had your eyes on two years ago, I'd accept you for who you are" Verette suddenly said.

She mustered the courage to tell her feelings due to the effect of Rai’s eyes. Rai just kept silent and keep on walking. A few meters ahead before they reach the entrance to the dorm. Both of them kept silent as they walk.

"Were here, you should rest" Rai after they arrive at the entrance.

Rai walk past Verette who stared at him as he walked. After a few steps Rai stop in his tracks.

"I advice you to keep your distance away, because if you don’t. You’ll only get burned" he said as he continued to walk away.

Verette wore a sad face yet again after hearing Rai's words.

"Love only gives you weakness but hey, its great to know that someone appreciated my efforts" Rai said as he smiled at Verette, his purple eyes glowed as his eyes reflected the light of the moon.

"Don’t get me wrong, you are pretty, there’s more people a lot better than me."

What he said echo to her ears, Verette stared at him as his silhouette started to fade in the distance.

"Smiling really suits you better, Rai" Verette whisper to herself knowing that the other party is already gone.

Rai arrived at the inn a few moments later. Gaia was already eating when Rai arrived, so Rai just joined him before going to their room.

"Yo Rai" Gaia called Rai after taking a bite on his all time favorite pork stew.

"Yeah?” Rai replied while waiting for the inn keeper.

Gaia stopped chewing on his pork and faced Rai.

"I heard what happened earlier" he said then continued to munch on his meat.

"About that, I have something to tell you later"

Rai glanced at Gaia who is so focused on savoring his favorite meal.

"Got it, so what are you getting tonight? The usual?" Gaia ask with his mouth full of pork.

"The usual" Rai answered.

Gaia’s eyes popped out when Rai answered him that he nearly threw up his pork stew.

"Dude, don’t you get bored with that food?" Gaia said while giving Rai a nasty look.

"Nope" Rai brushed him off with a short reply.

Rai walked at the counter and ordered his dinner like a normal costumer does.

"Right away" says the inn keeper.

"Thanks" Rai thank the inn keeper before he left.

Gaia's eyes followed Rai then sighed.

"Man, you’ve been eating that for ages! Get something new, seeing you eat that every single time makes me want to puke!" he said while covering his mouth.

"Hah, come on I like it. If you don’t like it then don’t watch me as I eat" Rai brush him off.

"Whatever" he murmured.

Gaia continued to munch his roasted pork. Rai's order arrived and Gaia is staring at it so intensely.

[I should throw this outside] He thought as the nerves on his forehead started to pop up.

Rai just looked at him with a gloomy face. They both finished their food then paid at the counter. They headed to their room on the third floor.

"Rai, how’s today?"

Gaia entered the room first, then turned on the lights, Rai followed behind him and closed the door.

"I heard what you did was funny." Gaia ask after he sat down on his bed.

"About that” Rai suddenly got serious.

Gaia knows Rai too well, he can tell if Rai will say something serious by the tone of his voice, his expression and by his eyes.

"Stop, go to the funny part first. You can tell me about the serious one later" Gaia gestured Rai to stop before the other one could even finish. Rai stared at him with an annoyed face.

"You really like those things huh?"Rai smirked as he looked at Gaia who was waiting like an excited child for a bedtime story.

"So-"

Rai told Gaia what he intended and Gaia came in bursting with laughter.

The costumers who are dining was surprised to hear a loud laugh that reached even the neighboring houses.

The keeper knocked at the door and ask Gaia to keep it silent because he is bothering the neighbors and the costumers.

"Sorry, I'll try to control it" Gaia promise as he covers his mouth.

"You better be" Said the angry keeper who was a little older that them.

Rai covered his mouth to suppress his laughter.

"You laughed really hard with just that? I haven’t really told you the best part" he said while holding his stomach.

"You punk, don’t tell me the rest. You’ll get me in trouble" Gaia said while gesturing him to stop.

Gaia said that but Rai still continued and told him the rest.

"Gahahahahahahahahaahaha!" His laughter shook everyone yet again.

The keeper went inside their room really fast.

"Pardon my intrusion!" the innkeeper dash with a super human speed.

Everything went slow-motion, Gaia’s head slowly turn to the direction of the innkeeper, the moment their eyes met, Gaia saw dark figure in the form of a human being, he saw the fist of the innkeeper coming straight for his head and fast.

[Taaaaak!]

"Owww!" Gaia exclaimed in pain.

The keeper whacked Gaia in the head, which left a bump. The keeper apologized yet again before leaving.

Rai was beet red, covering his mouth with all his might. Not allowing a single giggle out.

"That damn keeper can’t be taken lightly, she may be a citizen but she can pack a punch. If I was any weaker she'd blow a hole in my head" Gaia complained.

"Yeah, I knew you’d survived that" Rai said while laughing internally.

"You bastard, I'll get you someday" he pointed his fists towards Rai.

"Dream on" Rai replied.

Gaia stroke the place where he was hit.

"Oh man it really left a bump! My image is broken my beautiful face!" he said while looking at the mirror checking if everything is fine except for that place.

"You don’t even have an image to begin with" Rai reminded him.

"That’s harsh, you i***t. So what was the important one, ow, ouch" Gaia switch gears instantly.

Rai became serious again, he gave Gaia the information he received earlier. The atmosphere is so serious as well as the expression they are wearing.

"So that’s it huh?" Gaia said as he sat properly.

"Yes, that’s why I want you to gather more information about it" Rai walk beside the window and stare outside.

"If its information I can get it easily." his yellow eyes glow even though it is covered by his hair.

"I'll trust you with it." Rai’s purple eyes glowed as well.

"Leave it to me" Gaia wore a sinister smile as he stood.

"Meanwhile, I'll protect those two and the rest of the students" Rai said as he close the window.

Both of them agreed then went on with the plan for their movements.

After a few hours of planning they came to a conclusion and went to sleep.

They came to school as usual, though they have to parts ways because Gaia was assigned to another class.

Rai walked towards their room, on the way he met the group he had fought against.

"Harris" Rai called out to him.

Shocked that Rai could even remember his name, he faced Rai.

"H-hi" he said in a stiff voice.

Everyone did the same as Harris, the smiled awkwardly at Rai who was facing them.

"Don’t be so stiff, its really awkward." Rai asked.

"Sorry, I was just surprised that you remember my name." Harris answered.

"I remember your names you know, Harris, Clara, Taro, Rica and Leroy" Rai said as he point them out.

Their faces glowed as he mentioned their names.

Suddenly all of them bowed and asked for forgiveness.

"Please forgive us Rai, the way we act and the way we judged you in the last two years." they said in unison.

"Dude, I don’t really care about your impressions you had about me two years ago." Rai reminded.

"Eh?" Leroy muttered instantly.

"You don’t resent us?" Harris inquired.

"That was in the past, I already got over it" Rai answered with an I don’t care gesture.

They sighed in relief after hearing Rai's words.

"More importantly, let us meet at this inn after class. Be sure to disguise yourselves well." Rai’s face turned serious.

He handed Harris a piece of paper with the inn's name written on it.

"What are we-" Harris could not even finish his thought.

"I'll tell you the details there" Rai informed.

Harris and the others nodded, but they are afraid of what he will do to them. Surprisingly Rica, nodded without any doubt in her heart.

"I will come" she declared.

The others hesistated to say the same, Rai sensed this and gave them a warm smile.

"I assure you, that you'll gain more in this" Rai promised.

The fear in their hearts slowly faded and they all nodded.

"Please keep it a secret, because it may be dangerous if someone knows of this" he reminded.

"Yes, but do we have to stay away from you?" Harris ask.

"For the mean time, yes." Rai answered.

"Alright, we'll do our best"

"Yeah"

They went into their room together and separated as they went to their seats.

The day went by fast and the classes ended.
