Chapter 1 : The first day
Here’s your story with proper punctuation and slight corrections for clarity, while keeping your natural style:
Just two days ago, I was at my uncle's house for the holidays, and now I am at home preparing for the first day of school. Then my mom just barged into my room and said, “Why are you not getting ready for school?”
Then I said, “Mom, I’m tired. I don’t think I will be able to go to school today.”
Then my mom said, “What have you done that you are tired?”
But my mom then dragged me out of bed and said, “Now hurry up and go take your bath. Breakfast is almost ready.”
Immediately after I finished taking my bath, I rushed to eat breakfast. Then I went to school. On my way to school, I met my best friend Josh, and we talked about how we spent our holiday.
Finally, we reached school. I went to my locker to get my English book. Before the bell rang, I ran into the classroom. Then the teacher walked into the class, but the class was still noisy. Then she said, “Everybody, keep quiet,” and she started teaching.
During the class, I wasn’t paying attention. I was thinking of the good time I spent at my uncle’s place. Suddenly, the teacher asked me a question about the topic on the board.
“s**t, what will I do now? I don’t know it,” Charles said to himself quietly.
I couldn’t answer the question, so the teacher told me to see her in her office. Then someone else answered the question.
Before the teacher left, there was still a lot on the board, so I was writing until Dami wanted to clean the board. Then I said, “Stop, I’m still writing.”
Then she said, “The next teacher will be here soon. I can help you finish writing it.”
I was so shocked when she said that because no girl has ever told me that. So I rushed and told my friend Josh about it while she was still writing, and he said, “This girl likes you, man.”
Then I replied, “She doesn’t like me. We don’t even know each other at all. Maybe she just wants to help me. Which girl would even like me? Even I don’t like the way I look.”
Then Josh said, “Why did you say that? You don’t look that bad, guy.”
In the middle of the conversation, Dami walked toward me and said, “Here are your notes. I’m done writing them. And please, what’s your name?”
I was surprised that she didn’t even know my name, but she still helped me.
Then I told her, “My name is Charles.” And I asked for her name too, and she said it was Damilola, but I could call her Dami.
Before we knew it, it was break time, so me and Josh went to the school cafeteria together.
The cafeteria was louder than usual.
It felt like everyone had a story from the holiday, everyone talking at the same time, laughing, arguing, dragging chairs across the floor. The smell of food filled the air, but Charles barely noticed.
He kept thinking about one thing.
Dami.
Josh nudged him as they stood in line.
“Guy, you’re quiet. Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about her.”
Charles rolled his eyes, trying to act normal.
“I’m not. I’m just… hungry.”
Josh smirked.
“Yeah, hungry for love.”
“Shut up,” Charles muttered, but he couldn’t stop a small smile.
They got their food and found a place to sit. Charles kept glancing around without meaning to. Every time the cafeteria door opened, his eyes would shift.
“Are you looking for her?” Josh asked.
“No.”
“You just checked the door again.”
“I said no.”
Josh laughed. “You’re finished.”
Before Charles could reply, a voice came from behind them.
“Hey… Charles, right?”
He turned quickly.
It was her.
Dami stood there holding her tray, looking a little unsure but still smiling.
“Yeah… yeah, that’s me,” Charles said, suddenly forgetting how to act normal.
“Can I sit?” she asked.
Josh immediately moved his bag.
“Of course. Please. Welcome,” he said dramatically.
Charles kicked him under the table.
Dami sat down, placing her tray carefully.
“You left your pen in class,” she said, handing it to Charles.
“Oh… thanks,” he replied. “And… thanks for the notes too. I really appreciate it.”
“It’s nothing,” she said. “You looked like you needed help.”
Josh leaned forward.
“My guy always needs help. Especially in class.”
Charles shot him a look. “Ignore him.”
Dami laughed softly. It wasn’t loud, but it was real. And for some reason, that made Charles feel even more nervous.
“So,” she said, “why weren’t you paying attention earlier?”
Charles hesitated.
“I was just… thinking about my holiday.”
“Same,” she said. “I didn’t want school to start again.”
For a moment, it felt easy. Just talking.
Then Josh stood up suddenly.
“I’ll go get a drink,” he said, giving Charles a look that clearly meant you’re on your own.
Now it was just the two of them.
A small silence settled in.
Charles scratched the back of his head.
“So… um… what class are you in?”
“Same class as you,” she said, smiling. “You just didn’t notice.”
That hit him a little.
“Oh… yeah. I guess I didn’t.”
“It’s okay,” she said. “You notice now.”
Another small silence. Not awkward… just new.
Then she spoke again.
“You don’t talk much, do you?”
“I do,” Charles said quickly. “Just… not all the time.”
She tilted her head slightly.
“Or maybe you’re just shy.”
“I’m not shy.”
“Hmm,” she smiled. “We’ll see.”
Josh returned, interrupting them, but the moment didn’t disappear completely. Something had started. Something small, but noticeable.
As the bell rang for the next class, they all stood up.
“See you later, Charles,” Dami said.
“Yeah… see you,” he replied.
She walked away, and Charles watched her go without even realizing it.
Josh tapped his shoulder.
“You’re gone.”
Charles blinked. “What?”
“My friend,” Josh said, shaking his head. “School just started, and your life is already changing.”
Charles didn’t answer.
But deep down, he knew something felt different.
And for the first time that day…
He wasn’t thinking about his holiday anymore.
