"Mary, I hired you for a reason. I wanted to be closer. I've been thinking about you all these years.

I look up, and there's determination in my eyes:

"Tom, this is crazy. I'm leaving. Nothing can happen between us. You're married, and I don't want to destroy someone else's family.

I take a step toward the door, but Tom grabs my arm, turning me around. His gaze burns, and I feel conflicting feelings fighting inside me.

"Don't go away,— he says. "You feel it too." Don't lie to yourself, Mary. You still love me.

I try to resist, but his words and proximity awaken something inside me. I want to push him away, but at the same time, my body responds to his touch.

Tom pulls back and looks into my eyes.:

"We can't ignore what's going on between us. You are my destiny.

I push him away and say,

"You're my boss." It doesn't mean anything. Go to your wife.

I slam the door and leave.

When I leave the office, I feel like I'm shaking. My heart is pounding, and Tom's words are ringing in my head. I know he's right, but I know it's wrong.

I won't give in to his gaze, I think. "It will destroy someone else's family, and I don't want to be the cause of such grief."

Chapter 1. A chance encounter in a big city
Mary Wilson stood at the window of her small apartment in London, looking out at the bustling city skyline. The streets were filled with people, cars, and buses, and the sky overhead was gray and overcast. She sighed, turning away from the window. She was 35 years old and had been actively looking for a job for the past few months. Mary was a translator with impeccable knowledge of several languages, but finding a suitable job in London was not easy. Her life after her divorce from Tom Stanley was filled with uncertainty and loneliness. Mary tried to focus on her career and forget the past, but sometimes memories of the old days still caught up with her. She knew the divorce was the right thing to do, but her heart sometimes ached for the times when she and Tom had been happy. Every morning, Mary woke up determined to find a job that would not only provide her financially, but also bring her satisfaction. She sent resumes to various companies, went to interviews, but so far everything has been to no avail. London seemed to her a huge and indifferent city, where her talents and experience were not properly recognized. One morning, while looking through the latest job ads, Mary came across an interesting offer. A large company was looking for an experienced translator. The salary and conditions seemed attractive, and Mary decided to apply for a resume. She carefully prepared a cover letter highlighting her strengths and experience. In the letter, she spoke about her achievements, mentioned the projects in which she participated, and expressed her sincere interest in working in this particular company. A few days later, she received a call and was invited to an interview. Mary was nervous, but she tried to stay calm. She put on her best suit, did her hair neatly, and went to the company's office. On the way, she worried, turning over possible questions and answers in her head. Mary imagined how she would answer difficult questions and tried to anticipate what the interviewer might ask. The building where the company was located impressed her with its grandeur and scale. Mary walked through the spacious lobby and was greetedby a smiling receptionist. The girl was dressed in a formal business suit, and her smile seemed genuine and welcoming to Mary. The receptionist pointed in the direction of the interview room. Mary walked down the hall, looking at the interior and trying to calm down. The corridor was long and bright, with large windows that overlooked the city's bustle. Abstract paintings hung on the walls, and elegant couches and chairs for visitors lined the walls. The air smelled of coffee and furniture polish, and there were muffled voices outside the office doors. Finally, she stopped at the right door and took a deep breath, gathering her courage. The interview went surprisingly smoothly. Mary answered questions easily, showed off her skills, and felt like she was making a good impression. She talked about her previous projects, how she coped with difficult tasks, and shared her professional ambitions. Just as she was about to leave, the head of human resources suddenly said, - We are ready to offer you this position. You're right for us. Mary couldn't believe it. She thanked him, trying to hide her excitement. When she got home, she thought for a long time about how quickly everything had turned out. It was as if fate had finally smiled on her. She imagined how she would start a new life, how she would develop in a new company, and how she would finally be able to forget about the past. The next day, Mary came to the office to sign the employment contract. Once again, she found herself in the same grand building, and once again she was greeted by the friendly girl at the reception desk. Mary felt like she was part of something big and important. She walked down the corridor, feeling a little excited and excited. When she went into the office to sign the documents, her eyes happened to fall on a framed photo on the HR manager's desk. It was a picture of Tom Stanley, her ex-husband. Mary's heart began to beat faster, and her hands trembled slightly. She couldn't believe her eyes. Is this really a coincidence? she wondered. But deep down, she already knew the answer. Mary knew that now her life could change dramatically. She signed the contract, trying to remain calm, and left the office. As she descended the stairs, Mary felt a war of conflicting emotions inside her. On the one hand, she was excited about her new job and the opportunity to start over. On the other hand, the idea that her ex - husband would be her boss scared and worried her. When Mary got home, she sat at the window for a long time, looking out at the evening London. She thought of Tom, of how they had parted, and of what lay ahead of her. Hope and fear warred in her heart, and she wondered if she would be able to work under the man she once loved. The night passed uneasily. Mary tossed and turned in bed, reliving the day's events over and over. She had dreams in which Tom would look at her with a smile and then suddenly become cold and distant. In the morning, she woke up tired but determined to move forward. Mary Wilson awoke with a strange sense of excitement. She had a dream in which Tom looked at her with the same tenderness that he had shown in the happiest days of their marriage. But in the morning reality reminded me of itself: Tom is now her boss, and she will have to work in the same company with the man she once loved. She got up and went to the window and looked out at the morning London. The city was just waking up: the first rays of the sun were breaking through the fog, cars were beginning to fill the streets, and people were rushing to work. Mary took a deep breath, trying to collect her thoughts. Today will be a difficult day - she will have to fully interact with Tom for the first time after a ten-year separation. After breakfast, she packed up her things, put on a formal suit, and headed to the office. As they drove, Mary replayed the previous day's meeting with Tom over and over in her head. His eyes, his voice, his manner, all seemed so familiar and yet so foreign. She knew she had to keep her feelings under control, but deep down, she knew it wouldn't be easy. When Mary entered the office, a strange sense of dejavu came over her. Everything here reminded her of the past: the smell of polish, the muffled sounds of conversation, even the layout of the furniture seemed familiar. But at the same time, she knew that everything would be different now. She made her way to her desk, trying not to look in the direction of Tom's office. But she couldn't stop thinking about him. Mary tried to concentrate on her new responsibilities, studying documents, getting to know her colleagues, but she still found herself looking in the direction of her boss's office. During the day, Mary crossed paths with Tom several times, sometimes in the hallway, sometimes at general meetings. Every time she saw him, her heart started beating faster. Tom still looked as attractive as ever: tall, statuesque, with piercing blue eyes. Mary tried to remain calm, but her emotions were running amok inside her. Once, when they were side by side in the elevator, Mary felt a wave of memories wash over her. It suddenly seemed to her that they were young and happy again, that there was no divorce, no long separation. But then she came to her senses: Tom is her boss, and she is his subordinate. You can not give in to feelings, you can not forget about reality. Still, Mary couldn't deny that she was still attracted to Tom. His confidence, his manner, even the smell of him - all of it evoked long-forgotten sensations in her. But she was determined to keep her distance and focus on her work. Meanwhile, Tom couldn't help but notice Mary, too. He often found himself looking at her, thinking about how much she had changed over the years. Tom knew that Mary's appearance in his office was not just an accident. Deep down, he knew that he still loved her, even though he tried to convince himself otherwise. At one of the meetings, Tom unexpectedly invited Mary to lead an important project. He saw potential in her and wanted to give her the opportunity to prove herself. But at the same time, he knew that it would give him an excuse to see her more often, to talk to her, to get to know her better. Mary accepted the offer, though she felt a little wary. She understood that this could be both a career opportunity and a trap that would draw her into the maelstrom of old feelings. As the days passed, Mary became more and more absorbed in the project. She tried not to think about Tom, but every time their eyes met, something inside her jumped. She could see the way he looked at her - not just as a superior to a subordinate, but as a man to a woman. And it stirred her soul, made her heart beat faster. Meanwhile, Mary began to notice that her attitude toward Tom was becoming increasingly complicated. On the one hand, she was angry with him for hurting her once, for breaking up their marriage. On the other hand, she couldn't deny that she still had strong feelings for him. Sometimes it seemed to her that these feelings never went away, just were deeply hidden in the depths of her soul. But Mary tried to control herself, to remind herself that Tom was a stranger now, that he had a life of his own, a family of his own. She didn't want to get burned again, didn't want to repeat the mistakes of the past. However, with each passing day, it was becoming more difficult for her to keep her cool. Tom was everywhere: in her thoughts, in her dreams, in every corner of the office. Mary knew that she was facing a difficult choice, that she would have to sort out her feelings and decide how to continue living. But for now, she just tried to focus on her work, hoping that time and distance would help her forget the past and start over. Meanwhile, Tom was becoming more and more convinced that his feelings for Mary were as alive and strong as ever. He knew he had to do something, that just watching her wasn't enough. But at the same time, he was afraid of losing the delicate balance that had been established between them, afraid of destroying what was just beginning to emerge. So days, weeks, and months passed. Mary and Tom continued to work together, facing the past every day and trying to build a new future. But none of them knew yet what this meeting would lead to, what trials they would have to go through, and what feelings they would have to go through. Still, there was a sense of inevitability in the air, a premonition that things were about to change. Mary and Tom were on the verge of new events, new experiences, new relationships. And only time will tell if they can overcome all the obstacles and be together, or fate will separate them again.
