Chapter 3: Did You Catch That?

344 Words
She enjoyed giving me cryptic codes to decipher, and I enjoyed deciphering them; one of her favorite games to play with me was sending me words, words that described her emotions, words that described her day, or what she was doing; and it was always my job to piece the words together, to write my own idea, or my own narrative of what was going on. Occasionally I would write a story for her, I had a huge one planned using almost every word. No. it had every word that she had written for me, the day it happened was the last word on the list, Disoriented. It's a great word isn’t it? Disoriented meaning and I quote “having lost one's sense of direction” and if I may, using it in a sentence would be as simple as saying “Psyche Hastings feels incredibly disoriented”, a great adjective, but did you catch that? I said “Psyche Hastings feels” can’t really say that about her anymore can I? That day was completely different than any other day. Why? because normally Psyche would come to me happy and cheerful, very rarely would there be many days that I knew of, let me repeat that last part again for the people in the back, the ones who stopped caring about this story, the ones who just want to know what happened, and finally the ones who are probably skipping through just to see the ending; “That I knew of”. It’s true, I was her best friend, we shared issues, thoughts, concerns, and our secrets, but even with your best friend there are secrets you keep hidden, right? Well for Psyche, those secrets were hidden, not just from me, nor from her mother but from the school, her therapist, and even from herself, she shielded everyone from it because she wanted to let herself struggle alone, she wanted a reason to do this to push all of us through pain like she had felt, every day of her life.
