Back to whispering; as she used to do, the whispering was something she did a lot. When her father would come home spinning out of control, her beautiful cheery tone was then replaced with a despairful and vexed one, manipulated just enough to allow easy speech, without angering her father, of course. I tried to blame him for it, before I blamed myself, I really did try, but my encounter with her the day it happened would circulate through my brain, forcing me to look at it and hear it ringing in my ears.
She was named after a lesser known Greek goddess, the goddess of the soul. Her name meant “breath of life”. She was told by her mom, her mother was always a Greek mythology nerd, and always told her stories about them. I remember doing research on the Greek goddess of the soul. Her beauty rivaled that of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. It interested me because of how beautiful my friend was. I felt as if her mother could see the future and how beautiful her daughter would become. Know that in giving you the description of a goddess I expect you to either know her name, or look it up. I’ll reveal the answer fully later on. Don’t be lazy, because you’re not getting the answer that quickly. This world harmed her, and in harming her, it harmed me as well, so I’m telling her story the way she would want it told.
I talked to her the day it happened. It seemed like only hours ago that my friend had left me, so soon, but it wasn’t, it was weeks ago, at least a month. I can tell you the date. I have it written in ink, carved into my arms with dripping red ink. I sucked up the pain for her, the date was implanted into my skin. I cried, not because of the obvious pain, but because, as I had the date, permanently placed into my perfectly imperfect fair skin, all I could think of was her face, her beautiful face, the flaring of her alluring hair, her perfectly shaped face, the beautiful tint of her dark skin. The intricate and busy piece of artwork was done as I snapped out of thought, wiping my eyes as I took the first look at the design. It was perfect. She would’ve loved the complexity of the design. She was a complex person after all.
