Chapter SevenDuring those hot summer days in which folk tend to leave the cities, Aziza came to stay in the village. Even if it was only to exchange one set of walls for another, at least she would benefit from the change of environment. When Hamid learned of her arrival his only thought was to go to greet her, to sit by her side and talk to her. How pretty she had been when she was young. Lithe and quick, always ready to laugh in the days when they used to play together, never questioning their actions. One of Hamid’s characteristics was that he often felt as though a hundred pairs of eyes were studying the secrets of his soul and prying into his personal affairs. This made him hesitant but he soon felt an irresistible urge to go and meet the girl whose image in his mind was one of youth
