1.1 Anya’s POV "I'm not going, please!" I exclaim at my mother, tears brimming in my eyes, threatening to spill any second. She envelops me in a tight embrace and soothes me with sweet words. My mother is the sweetest person and my strongest support, but she's attempting to mend my broken heart by arranging a blind date with her friend's son, just to lift my spirits. I appreciate her efforts, but I'm in no mood to sit with a random man for dinner so soon after breaking up with my ex-boyfriend. All I want to do is retreat to my room and let myself cry throughout the night, as I've done for the past two or three weeks. No such luck today. "Sweetheart, I'm not asking you to date him, just to meet him as a new friend. He's a real charmer. I bet you'd feel better if you just distracted yourself a bit," she says, straightening me up, giving me an encouraging smile as she wipes away the tears now streaming down my cheeks. She moves toward my cupboard and retrieves some designer dresses for me to wear to dinner. "No dresses. If this is meant to be just a friendly chat night with a stranger, I'm going in my usual jeans and top. That's final," I declare adamantly. If I agree with this, it should be a mutual decision. She raises her eyebrows in protest but doesn't say anything more, since she's happy that I agreed to go on this absurd date just for her. As the time for the date approaches, I pace back and forth in my room, my heart racing. I can't believe that I'm about to go on a friendly date, if that's even a real term, with the alpha werewolf, Kai Alexander. He's the most popular and respected werewolf in the Silver Moon pack, and I'm certain that he's out of my league. I've never been on a blind date before, and I'm nervous about meeting someone new. But I also know that this is a chance for me to emerge from the cave I've been hiding in for the past few weeks after breaking up with my ex-boyfriend. I'm looking for a fresh start. I hear the doorbell, and my parents don't answer because they know it's my date coming to pick me up for dinner. I glance at myself in the mirror, dressed in baggy jeans and a cute top that hides my curvy figure. I make some final touches to my face, concealing any evidence of the crying sessions from the past few weeks. I don't want Kai to see how messed up I am, at least not during our first meeting. I took a deep breath and opened the door. Kai stands there, looking even more handsome than I imagined. He's tall and muscular, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. His eyes sparkle for a moment as he looks intensely at me, as if he's found something he's been searching for. A beautiful smile flashes across his face as he greets me, "Hi, Anya. It's nice to finally meet you." I smile back and say, "It's nice to meet you too, Kai." Kai leads me to his car, and we drive to the restaurant. I'm still nervous, but I try to relax and enjoy the date. As we drive, I think about my life. I'm the daughter of the alpha werewolf, Marcus Black, but I'm not the alpha heir. I'm a girl, and in the werewolf world, girls can't be alphas. This makes my life very difficult. I'm constantly being compared to my father, and I'm always expected to live up to his standards. I'm also subjected to a lot of bullying from the other werewolves, who are jealous of my strength and beauty. My mother, Maya, is my only pillar of support. Maya is a strong and independent werewolf, and she taught me to be proud of who I am. She also taught me to never give up on my dreams, no matter how difficult things get. I know I've had my share of gloomy days and deserve happiness. I am resolute about making things better for myself and those around me. Even if I can't be the alpha, I'm determined to become the best Luna one day. "Anya, is everything alright?" I hear Kai's worried tone shake me back to reality in the parked car I'm sitting in. "Yes, all good," I reply, holding his hand when he offers to help me out of the car. The sudden spark where our skin meets makes me jerk my hand away quickly. I can see he feels the same. I rushed myself out of the car to hide the embarrassment, and we walked towards the newly opened restaurant. After ordering the food at the charming Italian restaurant, with its warm, dimly lit ambiance and walls adorned with rustic paintings, our conversation begins. The soft glow of candlelight casts a gentle flicker on our faces, creating an intimate atmosphere. We talked for hours, and I relaxed in the plush cushioned seats, letting my guard down. I realize that Kai is not like the other werewolves. He's kind and understanding and doesn't judge me based on my past. He's also very much a gentleman, and I can't help but be drawn to him. By the end of the night, I know that I have a strong connection with Kai. He makes me feel safe and protected. I can't wait to see him again.
