Chapter eight

Alexander stepped out of Emilia’s room, the night air enveloping him as he stepped out into the streets, his mind occupied by his newfound discovery. Emilia was related to Ethan Harrington, the man who played a huge role in the feud between the humans and vampires. As he walked, the city seemed to blur into the background, his pace quickened, his feet carrying him towards the outskirts of the city. He needed to clear his head, to shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in his chest. He took off in a flash, his speed carrying him through the city in a blur. The wind rushed past him, his feet pounding the pavement with a rhythmic beat. He felt alive, free, as he devoured the distance. Finally, he began to slow, his feet carrying him toward his residence. As he stepped inside, Alexander's senses went on high alert. Something felt off. He could sense it, a subtle vibration in the air that told him he wasn't alone. His eyes scanned the room, his heart rate quickening. And then, he saw them - Claus, flanked by two imposing figures with piercing gazes, their skin deathly pale in the faint moonlight filtering through the windows. Alexander stepped into his dimly lit living room, his eyes scanning the space for any signs of disturbance. But what he saw made his heart sink. Seated on his couch, flanked by two imposing figures with piercing gazes, was Claus. His eyes gleamed with amusement as he rose to his feet, a cold smile spreading across his face. "Ah, Alexander," Claus said, his voice dripping with malice. "Welcome home. I see you're right on time." Alexander's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions. What was Claus doing here? The one to Claus's left was known as Miguel, a towering figure with jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes. He was a formidable fighter, with muscles rippling beneath his skin, while Katherine was on Claus's right, a woman with long, curly brown hair and piercing green eyes. She looked like a seductress, her full lips curled into a sly smile. Miguel and Katherine, known as the infamous twins, were notorious for their ruthlessness. They were the type of vampires who would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. And Alexander knew that if they were involved, things were about to get very complicated, and he had an idea of who sent them. Alexander's eyes locked onto Claus's. "What do you want, Claus?" he asked, his voice firm. Claus smiled, his fangs glinting in the dim light. "We’re here to escort you to a meeting, Alexander, I figured it would be a task to get you there so I had to ask for help," he said, his voice dripping with malice. “Someone wants to have a word with you”. Alexander’s eyes flashed with anger. “Who?”, he demanded. Claus’s smile grew wider. “That would be telling, Alexander. Let's just say that it's someone who's been watching you from the Shadows and is aware of your recent movements. And they’re not pleased.” Claus’s eyes gleamed with amusement as if he knew what Alexander was thinking. “Shall we go, Alexander ?” he asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. Without warning, Alexander's fangs sprang forth, his eyes blazing with fury. "You think you can just waltz in here and take me away?" he snarled, his voice dripping with venom. Claus's smile never wavered. "Oh, Alexander," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "You're so predictable." Miguel and Katherine stepped forward, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. "We've been waiting for you to make a move," Miguel said, his voice low and menacing. Katherine smiled, her fangs glinting in the dim light. "You're no match for us, Alexander," she said, her voice laced with venom. Alexander's eyes flashed with anger, his fangs bared. He knew he was outnumbered, but he refused to back down. With a fierce growl, Alexander launched himself at Claus and the twins, his fangs snapping wildly. But despite his bravery, he knew he was fighting a losing battle. Claus and the twins were too strong, too well-trained. They took down Alexander with ease, pinning him to the floor. As Alexander struggled to break free, Claus leaned in close, his eyes glinting with malice. "You should have just cooperated, Brother," he whispered, his breath cold against Alexander's ear. And with that, everything went black. ***** Alexander slowly opened his eyes, his mind foggy from the blow. As his vision cleared, he found himself in a large, opulent room that seemed to stretch on forever. The ceiling disappeared into darkness, and the walls were lined with towering bookshelves that seemed to be made of rich, dark wood. The room was filled with a warm, golden light that seemed to emanate from a series of ornate candelabras that stood like sentinels around the room. The air was thick with the scent of old books and leather, and Alexander could feel a subtle hum of power emanating from the very walls themselves. As he sat up, Alexander’s eyes fell on a figure seated in a high-backed chair behind a massive, ornate desk. He was shrouded in shadows, making it impossible to discern any features. The desk was made of the same dark wood as the bookshelves, and it seemed to be adorned with intricate carvings that seemed to dance in the flickering candlelight. The figure leaned forward a little, its face still hidden in the shadows.“I've been expecting you Alexander”, it said, its voice dripping with malice. The figure slowly stood up, and then, in a movement that seemed almost imperceptible, it stepped forward, its face finally emerging from the darkness. Alexander’s eyes widened in shock as he realized who the figure was. Lucas. Lucas looked like a statue, his pale face serene and unyielding. His eyes seemed to bore into Alexander's soul, and his presence seemed to fill the entire room. "Welcome, Alexander," Lucas said, his voice low and smooth. "I see you're awake. I trust you're feeling... refreshed?" He slowly stood up, his eyes locked on Lucas. "Why am I here?" he asked, his voice firm. Lucas smiled, his fangs glinting in the candlelight. "Oh, I think you know exactly why you're here, Alexander," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "You see, I've been watching you. And I'm not impressed." But before he could react, Lucas spoke up, his voice low and menacing. "Alexander, I'm sure you're aware of the... delicate nature of our existence," he said, his eyes glinting with warning. "We walk a fine line between the human world and our own. And we must always be mindful of those who would seek to destroy us." Alexander's eyes narrowed, his mind racing with questions. What was Lucas getting at? Lucas's eyes seemed to bore into Alexander's soul, his gaze cold and calculating. "You see, Alexander, humans are not to be trusted, they're full of deceit and betrayal," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "They seek to use us for their gain, without regard for the consequences." Lucas's eyes never left Alexander's face. "And I'm afraid, Alexander, that you have been... associated with one such human," he said, his voice dripping with disdain. Alexander's heart skipped a beat as he realized what Lucas was implying, so he proceeded to speak. “Maybe they're not all the same, maybe”.… But Lucas cut him off, his voice cold and menacing. "No," he said, his eyes glinting with malice. "Alexander, you would do well to remember that we are not like humans. We are superior. And we will not be messed with well, never again!." Alexander's eyes narrowed. “Alexander, I want you to understand that your actions have consequences. But I can let this slide if you vow not to see that girl again. Besides, she's just a human girl who is unsuitable for your kind”. “And what happens if I refuse?” Alexander asked, trying to keep his voice steady. Lucas's smile grew wide, his fangs glinting in the candlelight. “Oh Alexander,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.“I'm only looking out for you child, and trust me, you do not want to refuse, or you'll never see the human girl again”. Alexander's face fell, but he knew he had to keep his cool and make a decision.
