Nick rose from the hyper-sleep pod feeling sick and drained. His stomach protested, he tasted the burn of bile at the back of his throat and its sour odor in his nose. The pounding headache blurred his vision but he could make out the distinctive shapes of his squad rising from their pods located along the length of the bay walls. The overhead lights glowed a soft amber, subdued, no doubt, due to the low power he anticipated based on Gears’ description of this FTL jump.
They had jumped with the Helix's FTL drive on maximum power output for the entire flight. Nick was pretty sure this wasn't recommended in the user manual.
