Kyle flies down the road while Jane is yelling at him to go back to Lacy. He won't. He knows that Lacy is not okay, and she will act tough in front of everyone. He flew down the road that leads towards Jane's and Lacy's house. "Why haven't you told her you all can come back?" Kyle said, while pulling up to the house. ""We can't anymore. You saw what happened to her when she heard a howl on TV."" She pointed out. They looked over at the house.
The door is open, and they can see the blood on the inside. Some of the blood was on the side of the house. Caution tape is all ripped up and on the ground. Kyle drove to the back of the house. They got out of Kyle's white truck, and walked into the woods to a spot where everyone meets up. Jax, Monica, Bobby and now Jane and Kyle. Lacy doesn't know about the meetings or anything about their secrets. When they saw them walking up, they were confused. "I thought Lacy would be here this time?" Jax asked. "She's not ready." Jane explained. They had talked about the last time they would slowly bring Lacy into the group and tell her everything. She has been in the dark for too long.
Bobby went up to Jane and kissed her on the cheek. "OK, so why are we here then?" Jax asked. He wrapped his arms around Jane's waist. The tingles light up when they touch. How they both miss the feeling. "I want to talk about that night." She said with darkness in her eyes. Bobby shifted to hug her from behind. ""Why are you mad sweetheart? We did what we thought was right. You were a part of it," Bobby said." I know we all scared her for life!" Jane screamed. Bobby removed his arms and stepped back. Jax stepped towards her and his eyes glowed yellow. She lowered her head at him in submission. ""I am the alfa here, not you. You do not raise your voice here,"" Jax said, with a deep and demanding voice. "Yes alfa." Jane said in a low voice.
Monica went up next to Jax and placed her hand on his shoulder. He looked over at her and his face softened. He took a deep breath and walked over to the trunk of a tree that had fallen. Jane stepped closer to Bobby, so he could hold her. "Now we knew she was around. If we don't do anything, she might not be here." Jax continued, "We saw the guys chasing her, so we took action. We didn't know if she could see or not, but we had to do it. Also, you were the one that wanted to attack, so don't act innocent." "Roxy and Sam died." Kyle stated with his arms crossed. Everyone gasped in shock. "What do you mean by that?" Monica said, standing up. "The 'dogs' the guys killed. Were Roxy and Sam," Jane explained. "She buried them in the flower bed by the house." She added. Tears streamed down their faces.
They heard rustling from behind them. Everyone is on guard looking in that direction of the noise. Two people pop out of the trees. One is a female with caramel skin, hazel eyes and light brown hair that is covered in leaves. The other person is a male with short black hair, one green eye and one brown. He's a little tan and also has a small stomach. "Roxy and Sam." Everyone screamed. They rushed to them and gave them a big hug, almost knocking them over. "What happened?" Roxy said, laughing. "We thought you were dead." Jane said, wiping her tears away. "Oh, yeah. When you left, we switched spots with normal regular dogs." Sam explained. Everyone stared coldly at them two. "W-why the long faces?" Sam asked. Chills went down their spine when they looked over at Jax. "You made us and Lacy cry," Kyle said while launching at them. Jax steps in front of him and stops Kyle dead in his tracks.
Lacy drove to the old house. When she pulled up she felt fear going inside of her. She sees the blood on the side of the house. She stayed in the car. She takes a deep breath to try and slow her heart rate. Slowly she got out of the car and went to the flower bed. Her knees hit the ground and she cried. She cried and cried until no more tears could come out. She got up and walked into the woods. It's all muddy due to the storms they have been having. She arrives at the tree where the attack happened. The blood had washed away, animals had gotten the rest of the bodies, leaving only the bones. She touched the tree, she remembered how much her feet hurt, how much her lungs burned. The screams of the guys and the howl of the wolves. The iron smell of their blood still lingers in her nose. She remembered the eagle that flew above her and the same calming feeling washed over her. Lacy gasped out, remembering seeing two animals that looked like Roxy and Sam.
Lacy ran back to the house. She is trying to tell herself it wasn't them. It couldn't be, but she knew what she saw. She picked up the shovel that was still next to the flower bed. She started to un-dig the dogs she thought were her pets. With every scoop she thought back of every detail they had together. Every time she was sick they would always be next to her. When Jane and her get into a fight they will always follow her. When she got closer to the bodies, the smell hit her like a brick wall. She lost her breath when she saw the decomposing bodies. Lacy opened Sam's eyelid, but it wasn't Sam. The eye was brown, not green like Sam's. Maybe I got it wrong. Let me look into the other eye. She thought to herself. She leaned back into the hole while holding her breath to look at the other eye. It was also brown.
Lacy fell backwards in shock. Those weren't her dogs. The dogs across the lake that night were them. She was hesitant, but she entered the house, she grabbed water and a food dish. Lacy quickly got in her car and reversed out of the driveway at full speed. "You need to tell her what is going on now." Jax said. Kyle put his hand on Jane's shoulder and nodded at Jax, letting him know they would. They heard a car start in the background. Everyone quickly went back to the house to see who it was. "That's Lacy's car," Jane said. They all made sure to stay in the trees, so she wouldn't see them. "Do you think she saw us?" Roxy asked. "No, we would have smelt her or heard her walking up." Kyle answered. Everyone took a deep breath and that's when the smell hit them. They all covered their noses. "What is that smell and why didn't we smell that earlier?" Sam said. "It's a decomposed animal," Monica stated. They all walked up to the source of the smell.
"Oh, no." Bobby said. When they got to the flower bed they knew what she was doing. Jax looks at Roxy and Sam. They are all thinking the same thing. Lacy now knows that they are alive. Jax looked over at Jane and Bobby holding hands, he said. "You need to tell Lacy who your mate is." Jax said sternly. Jane looks down at their hands and let go. Kyle has a small smile on his face. Everyone knows that he likes her, but no one knows she is his mate. He hasn't told a soul. He hates the idea that Jane is playing with her mate and his. Jax looks back at Roxy and Sam with a serious expression on his face. ""Lacy knows you are alive now. She will be looking for you now. Make sure she does."" He ordered. They nodded and turned into their wolf form. Bobby looked around the house and noticed the food and water bowl. He motioned to everyone to look. "She will be back soon," Monica said. Roxy and Sam howled, then ran to the woods. They all decided to go home. Bobby kisses Jane goodbye. Everyone goes to their cars beside Bobby, he walks home.
Lacy stormed into the house, calling out Jane and Kyle, but no one answered. She looked down at her phone. It's only 4 pm. Maybe she's still in the meeting, or she is doing her disappearing act. She thought to herself. She sat on the couch thinking about what she had seen. A mix of emotion swims in her. She's happy they are alive, but they are lost, scared and hungry. The front door opened and both Kyle and Jane walked in. They flip on the lights. Lacy hadn't noticed that they were off. "I got something to tell you," Lacy said. She heads to the kitchen, followed by Jane and Kyle.
She explained to them what she had done, and they looked shocked. "Roxy and Sam are alive!" Lacy said with joy in her voice. They had no expression on their faces. Lacy was confused. Why aren't they happy? She thought. Rage felled her, that made tears come out. "Why aren't you all happy?" She yelled. They didn't say anything. She stormed out. Kyle called out to her, but she didn't look back. Kyle decides to follow her outside while Jane calls Sam. He watched her get into the car, trying to wipe away the tears. He went into the house and gave Jane a look. She rolled her eyes and said, "I will tell her later when she comes back." Kyle shook his head and went to his bedroom. Jane sat on the couch and watched TV.
Lacy went to the old house and saw two animals eating from the dog bowls she had left out. They were covered in mud and leaves. She was hoping they were them. She called Roxy and Sam when she stepped out of the car. The two animals lift their heads up towards her, letting her know she was right. They bolted towards Lacy. She fell to her knees with her arms wide open. They tackled her to the ground and licked her all over her face. Tears swelled up in her eyes. After a few minutes, she got up, got in the car with them and headed back to Kyle's place.
Lacy opened the front door and the dogs ran in while Jane was sitting in the dark. Lacy made a little comment about who was sitting in the dark now. She went into the kitchen to get a beer and two wet clothes. She noticed Jane just sitting on the couch with her head down. She sat next to Jane with a worried look on her face. Jane looked up at her. She knows she needs to tell her it's been 4 years late. She does want to lose her or make her cry, but it's not fair to her or her mate, Bobby. Jane snaps out of her head when Lacy calls out to her. "Oh, yeah ummm I was just wondering how you found them so quickly." Jane lied. Lacy explained how she left food and water out for them. Lacy was wiping Sam's face while Jane got Roxy. Jane asked her when she started work again. She informed her that she started tomorrow. Lacy downed her beer and said she'd head to bed. Jane and the dogs followed behind her.
