Are you scared, Alpha?

1132 Words
June. “I would have thought you were stalking me, Alpha,” I said and leaned against the car, the ride was slow, he probably did that because of me. I dabbed my eyes, I couldn’t believe I cried in front of him, I never wanted him to see that part of me. Vulnerable. He didn’t speak, and the ride went on. I just got to Emerald Pack. I was still at the airport, when I saw him, standing with his driver behind him, he was the least person I had expected to see right there, waiting. He never said he was waiting for me, but a business partner who was supposed to be there but he never came and that was how our path crossed. It sounded fair, and I didn’t bother pushing him with my words. I held tight to his handkerchief as if I didn’t want to give it back. “I was supposed to get my documents processed and…” “It’s been done, Miss June.” The driver responded. “You don’t have to worry about it.” My mouth curved into an ‘oh’ and the Alpha still didn’t respond. Earlier, he acted differently and now he was being cold to me. “Where am I going to stay?” I asked, staring between him and the driver, whose name I haven’t gotten yet, he looked a bit older, around forty-five or late forties. “You are staying at the pack house.” “Oh,” I said, I couldn’t hide the disappointment. “I thought I was going to be with you.” I blurted out, and his eyes eventually turned, and met mine. “I mean Ari is there so I thought I could leave at the mansion, I barely know anyone in the pack and I don’t think Ari would want me to stay off with some stranger when she’s there, so it doesn’t…” I rasped on and he just watched me running my mouth like a cute little parrot. “You should stay at the pack house, you came for a program not for friendship.” His tone was relaxed, and I almost thought he meant that. Then he turned away. I scoffed, I wanted to speak back but I caught the eyes of the driver staring at me, so I bit down my words. I saw the amusement on his face knowing he did that on purpose. “You wanted me here.” “Was that a bad thing?” He held my gaze for a moment too long, and I couldn’t keep eye contact, so I broke it, turning to the other side. We got to the ShadowFang Pack, while I thought I was going to be dropped off at the pack, we were driven to the Alpha’s Mansion itself. The door was opened from the outside before I could reach for the handle, a guard lowered his head respectfully at me, and I did the same and stepped out of the car. My bag was taken out of the car as well, and into the house. “Alpha.” The driver remained by the car, he didn’t take a step further on it. “You are dismissed, Mr. Belt.” He said before we stepped in, Mr. Belt lowered his head at him, and went out. “Leave.” He ordered the maids that aligned at the doorpost and they all scurried away. I followed him wherever he was taking me. “Prepare something for the guest.” “Yes, Alpha.” The only view I could see was his broad back, as he took the stairs, I went with him and stopped when I stopped. He spun around and lowered his head to my height. “Do you want to follow me in?” He spoke calmly. “I don’t think I will let you out if you get in.” “Can you risk that?” His head lowered again, and he was almost breathing in my face. “I’m already here, Alpha.” He smirked and pulled back. “You are the one pulling back.” I said sharply, and his head snapped at me, “Am I?” The amusement in his tone came back. “Are you scared?” He chuckled as if I did amuse him this time, with just a step he was covering up the space between us again. “I am never scared of anything.” “Then prove it.” His lips twitched, and he nodded curtly and proceeded to open the door. “June, you are here!” I heard Ariana’s voice from behind me, she was coming down this way, I turned, with a smile on my face, preparing to hug my best friend. She squeezed me in her arms, and I missed her comforting smell so much, it was one of the reasons she was my best friend. “Your dad said I was going to stay at the Pack house,” I said the second we disengaged. Ariana frowned. “I never approved that.” I turned to the Alpha and shrugged at him. “I was telling my dad to make a room for you, your personal room, here in the house, that’s what I wanted.” “It’s part of protocol, Ari.” “But Dad.” “She is not staying at the house.” His tone was final, I smiled and stared at Ari. “It’s fine.” “You can always come to the pack house, and it doesn’t matter where I stay, I’m still in the same pack with you.” I tried to soothe her, but she was already at the Alpha, who just stood there watching. “She can only stay here for a night.” He added, I don’t think that did anything to Ariana’s mood. She was already not pleased with him. “June isn’t a stranger.” He stared at me, and his look remained stern. “She came to study,” “But…” “That’s final.” The second he got in, he closed the door behind him, and Ariana sighed. “I’m so sorry.” “Come here.” I never got tired of hugs each time she was around, it was the same comforting feeling the Alpha had, right there in the car, I wanted to pour out everything to him, and stay right there in his arms. Ariana went out again, she was preparing for her art exhibition in the pack, and I wanted to help anyway I could, but since I just got here I needed to take just the day off. “June, come eat.” And I almost forgot, it was just us right now.
