Chapter 1. The chase!
Blackwood forest
The trees seem to close in, feet pounding against the damp ground, as a lady bustled through the dim forest!
" Catch her!!!" A sharp thunderous voice roared out, scaring the wits out of the birds in the forest!
" Don't let her slip away! The Alpha won't spare us!"
A deep command pierced the air, with more sound of hurried loud footsteps stomping the ground heavily!
It was obvious the strange people were after the lady.
The strange people were the guards who were massive in number! They moved eerily in unison, and their faces contorted with a mixture of determination, annoyance, and fury as they chased down the lady!
The running lady possessed a delicate oval face, with soft but sharp angles, illuminated by the faint light filtering through the trees.
Clinging to her body was a white tattered dress, covered in dirt, a sign of her struggle.
Her senses accelerated on high alert, unyielding to save her life!
With a labored breathing and strong adrenaline , Vesper jumped, swiftly diverting her direction to another side in the forest. She almost tripped and lost her balance, failing to notice the huge rock in front of her.
" Haa!"
Using her swift werewolf reflexes, she was able to sway instantly from the rock but eventually missed her steps!
*Thud!*
She rolled on the ground, covering her lips to eliminate her scream. The fall made her head to hit the huge trunk of a large tree, allowing for her head to start buzzing, a feeling of lightheadedness taking over.
A weak sigh escaped from her dry melon red lips as she managed to crawl and stable herself against the tree. Her forest green eyes darted around nervously, while her heart accelerated continuously.
No! I mustn't get caught! She knew a single misstep would result into her being capture and all her efforts would go down the drain!
She had managed to escape from the Shadow fire pack, which was her pack where her parents were high officials and close to the leader of the Pack, Alpha Thane.
And this was because ever since her wolf had awaken, she had become mateless. This caused a large amount of humiliation for her, and her parents.
Every werewolves in the pack was aware being mateless is a curse. Any werewolf who doesn't possess a mate bond is tagged to be cursed and believed to bring nothing but bad luck to the Pack.
Vesper had tried every means possible best to get a mate. She attended various events, hoping to meet her mate. However , it was futile.
She couldn't stomach the shame anymore, and her last straw broke when she overheard her parents planning to hand her over to Alpha Thane as the sixth mistress in order to reduce the humiliation on them.
" I can sense her!" The sharp and deep voice from earlier, resounded across the forest, sliding through vesper's ears.
This interrupted her thought immediately!
" She is over there! Let's get her now!"
Vesper's pupils dilated fiercely back as if being struck by lightening!
Without thinking, she quickly pushed herself up. Her face turned red, and she proceeded to run again like she was going to get her end.
In no way would she allow herself to be captured by the guards and brought forcefully to the Alpha, who already has a Luna and five mistresses!
Rumours even circulated that the mistresses were chaotic, all trying one way or the other to bring themselves down!
However, the sounds of hurried footsteps grew even more, a sign that the guards were already close to her.
She picked up her pace even more when she felt their close presence. Her heart jumped to her throat, which almost suffocated her, and she balled her fists!
A blend of immense firmness and resoluteness flashed across her small delicate face like jade..
The same moment, a figure emerged from the shadow. His six feet almost centimeters frame, adorned in black long coat, that rustled along with the cold wind in the forest. He strode with a domineering force, his imposing figure warning anyone of the danger around the him.
The moonlight spilled gently on his features obscured by the shadows, showcasing eyes that were deep and dark as the depth of the ocean.
He carried a regal air like a powerful emperor, his profile was striking as fire! With his three dimensional facial features, thin lips, and sword shaped eyebrows, he appeared as if he was the perfect masterpiece of a great sculptor!
Riven had just came from a war, which he victoriously won. However, a brainless i***t, who was already five feet below the ground, stabbed his back with a dagger that was laced with a powerful metal poison.
Even him as one of the most strongest lycans in the lands, was not immune to the effect of the metal poison.
The metal poison was one of the deadliest poison in the lands. It has the very ability to burn the immune system of werewolves, and it could kill a hundred werewolves simontaneously within seconds!
The only reason why he was still alive was because of his kind of demonic wolf.......
Activity was meant to spread the poison fast, although he wasn't really affected, but the poison had slowed his healing process.
He decided to lay down and suck out the poison before it could cause any further damage.
Riven caught sight of a cave in the forest and marched towards it.
He didn't need to bother with the darkness inside the cave since his night vision was impeccably vivid!
He crinkled his nose slightly , inhaling the air inside the dark cave that was laced with a woody smell and decaying leaves.
Unfortunately, immediately Riven stepped inside the cave, Vesper also espied the cave and jumped inside, not daring to think about anything else.
Stumbling into the cave, she tried to adjust her eyes to the darkness of the cave, her labored and loud breathing echoing softly in the eerily quiet cave.
Riven, who had just sat down to suck out the metal poison in his body, swiftly sensed a presence in the cave.
His cold eyes lowered immediately, pressing his thin lips together.
Suddenly , he swung his right hand forward and grabbed hold of a flesh!
" Who the hell are you?!"
A terrible low but deadly growl reverberated across the walls of cave, which was full of imminent danger ..........
