Chapter5: Hostage

*Clang!* As soon as the heavy metal door creaked open loudly, a familiar figure was pushed forward, into the darkness. Behind her, the iron door screeched shut immediately, the sound resounding across dungeon walls like death knives! Vesper blinked, trying to adjust her vision with the sudden darkness that had enveloped her, the moment she was pushed in. Her eyes emitted a golden glow in the dark, a testament to her werewolf abilities. Her slender figure, clad in a worn out dirty gown, quivered, as she tried to adjust to the dark environment. The dungeon was empty, except with the cold ground that was laced with a layer of dust and brown cobwebs that hung around the corners of the dungeon walls, like a grim reaper fingers reaching out to take her soul. It was oddly silent and eerie like a death valley, and it seem to suck the warmth out of her body, leaving her cold and fragile. Shuddering slightly, Vesper gritted her teeth and refused to glance around anymore. She wouldn't deny she was a little bit terrified of the dungeon, which reminded her of her hostage status. But strangely, she preferred this silently odd environment, as her heart seemed to be calm. At least, she was free from the constant humiliation in her pack and from her parents disappointment look. She leaned her back against the wall and slided to the ground slowly, her right foot kicking a cloud of dust which instantly swirled above her head. *Cough!* Vesper coughed, patting her chest as she tried to wave the dust away. Yes, it was better here. She mused. Those who were mateless in the pack are usually sold out or given out to redeem status, wealth or power. She refused to suffer such kind of fate, and that was why she decided fleeing from the pack was the best. As a young lady of a noble status, she dreamed of a simple life, with a loving mate who would love her beyond the moon. However, it seems that dream isn't going to come through, at least not any sooner, since she was tagged as a cursed werewolf bringing shame to her family. Being the only child of her parents has constantly pushed her to live for her parents and please them. But the moment she overhead their plan of giving her to the Alpha to redeem their status in the pack, her tolerance for them withered immediately! No more would she please them if they don't care about her! Lost in thought, she failed to noticed the sound of the rusty iron door opening. Sounds of gentle creak from a leather tunic and armor, filled the dark atmosphere, which demanded attention and respect. Vesper furrowed her brows when she noticed a presence in front of her. Raising her head, her glowing eyes dimmed upon seeing who it was. Zara. It seemed she had changed into her suit of armor. The lady's silver armour was oblivious in the dark, adorned with the emblem of her significant status. Vesper narrowed her eyes at Zara's bloody red surcoat, which flowed behind her like the river of blood coming from the people she had slaughtered in war, serving as a symbol of her rank.... With her outfit, Vesper could comprehend Zara was a General in the pack. " Is that envy I see in your eyes?" Zara broke the silence, her lips giving out a lopsided grin, and she lowered her eyes at Vesper, as if she was gazing at a mediocre prisoner. The moment she left Riven's chamber, she made her way into the dungeon. Of course, Vesper could comprehend the gaze. However, she was less concerned. She relaxed her brows and crossed her legs together elegantly on the ground, without shifting her eyes away from Zara. " Envy?" She let out a chuckle that reveals nothing but mockery. " It seems the General is having an issue with her night vision. If not, how can I, a mere hostage dare to envy you?" Her green eyes shone, and she wore a smile, that was not really a smile. She had no idea why, but she felt like tearing Zara up and blaming her for everything! But why? Everything? What everything?! She didn't even know Zara previously, or even the name of the Pack. " How dare you?!" With a deep roar, Zara raised her right index finger and pointed to Vesper, her face blazing with hostility and raw rage! " Do you know who I am in this pack, and what I can do to a mere you?!" Her jaws thickened as a bottomless anger surged up from her heart! Honestly, she just wanted to burn Vesper up right this moment! She couldn't accept the deep resemblance! Vesper could sense the dark anger bursting out from Zara but that didn't falter her composure. In fact, she was much more relaxed and sneered, " How can I know who you are? I have just being held captive for some minutes." " Who are you?!" Zara ignored her words and demanded ferociously, her eyes turning into blades as if ready to slit Vesper's throat. " Tell me who you are ?! What's your identity and what are you doing here?! Do you know Alpha Riven?!" Her chest rose up, breathless while bombarding Vesper with those strange questions. For some reason, she felt Vesper was that.......rival of hers. That's why she couldn't stay calm and failed to tame her anger! Vesper frowned, twisting her lips, and she shook her head, with a hint of confusion. " What are you saying?" She retorted, raising her voice a bit calmly. " Just because I am held captive here doesn't mean you can interrogate me with any weird questions as you like." " You. ............" Zara's face was like a ball of flames! " You better tell me! You can't hide your identity forever, otherwise the pain that awaits you........." " If you want to know anything, meet with the Alpha. I have nothing to say to you, and I am Vesper." Interrupting Zara abruptly, Vesper spoke in a light but solemn tone that was not to be refused. With this, she turned her head away and softly closed her eyes. " If you mind, I want my peace and silence." Staring at Vesper who acted so calmly and insolent in her presence, Zara felt like exploding, and she fumed, her body turning crimson! "Hphm!" She snarled at Vesper and turned her back. " Then, let's see who will come begging at the very last!" Although, there was still a look of suspicion on her face, but it was overpowered by the hostility and fury shimmering on her sharp face. Striding gracefully out of the dungeon, she ordered the guards stationed at the entrance, " Let her starve to death!" " Yes, General Zara!" The moment Zara was out of sight, Vesper's fingers trembled in the dark, a mysterious light glinting in her forest green eyes........ . . *Shadow fire pack* At the chamber inside the Alpha's house. The chamber was spacious and extended to the far end, having the capacity to contain more than fifty members of the pack. The polished walls were filled with ancient medieval carvings of wolves and burning flames. A long ornate table occupied the center of the chamber, decorated wooden chairs with dark cushions, surrounding the long table.. The emblem of the Shadow fire pack which was a dragon circling the moon, was placed at the middle of the long table. The stone fire place lightened the room and casted a ray of warm glow to the people present in the chamber. A man and a woman stood up from where they were seating, intimately holding their hands, but their facial expressions was filled with worry. " Alpha.....what are we going to do? Vesper is no where to be found." The man spoke up, sighing as frustration etched on his face. He was none other than the father of Vesper, who was a high ranking official in the pack, Remus. " I have a lead," the Alpha responded in a grim tone, pressing his palms together solemnly. He was Alpha Thane, the leader of the Shadow fire pack. " She was saved by Alpha Riven in the forest, so possibly, she will be with him." He added, his face shrouded in gloominess as if Alpha Riven was a taboo to him. Of course, the two Alphas posses killing intent towards each other! It was no surprise that the two packs had been at odd for many years, each one trying to conquer the other due to unexplainable reasons. But Riven proved to be extremely stronger, and only few people even knew him or his name. " Oh.. vesper," the woman beside Remus, who was Louvre, Vesper's mother, shook her head with disappoinment, her eyes curving in sadness. She couldn't believe her daughter would do such an audacious thing! What have they done to deserve this?! Remus was embarrassed, clenching his jaws, and he silently cursed at his daughter! The Fiery Ember Pack was a great enemy to the Shadow fire pack! How could she do this?! " I have sent a letter. No matter what, Vesper must come back!" Alpha Thane declared vehemently, exuding an authority that couldn't be refused or ignored, and his gaze turned icy as a glacier! He wouldn't take it! He knew Riven might want to use this against his pack, which he has to stop at all cost! The fiery ember pack mustn't dominate the shadow fire pack! ******* Fiery Ember Pack Days passed by, and soon it was a complete week. Meeting chamber Riven with his usual cold stone face, sat on his throne, which was higher than the rest of the seats occupied by different significant members of the pack. Embellished with polished obsidian, the throne radiated a golden glow, signifying the golden material it was made from. Behind the throne, a roaring fire could be seen, demonstrating the fierceness of the Alpha. " Alpha ........" As the meeting was about to commence, a guard suddenly rushed with a worried and frightened expression. The guard called out shakily, bowing his head resp ectfully at Riven's feet. " My Lord!" " Speak!" Riven spared no glance at the guard but commanded emotionlessly. " The hostage......" The guard didn't dare to lift his head as he proceeded to answer. His voice trembled again, out of fear, and he broke out in cold sweats. ........
