Chapter 2 - A Day On The Stall I have always loved baking and when I moved in with Nonni she taught me everything she knew. I loved everything about it and I knew that I wanted to do baking as a job. When I had Jacob I looked after him, Nonni supported me in everyway but told me that if I wanted to keep the baby that I will have to be an hands on mother. I grew up straight away and matured along the pregnancy. Giving birth to Jacob was the hardest but most rewarding day of my life. I sometimes wish things were different that I had time to grow and be a teenager but I have no regrets keeping Jacob. I looked after him really well and gave him everything for the first three years, we have such a beautiful bond and I love him more than anything. Once he turned three he was able to go to nursery and I took on a job in the local cafe for the day time. That is where I met my best friend Sarah. It was hard to make friends as I had alot of judgment with having a child at such a young age. Sarah was lovely from the start, she would come round to see Jacob and Nonni. Once I started earning Nonni helped me get my own flat, it is a ground floor apartment and only round the corner from her bungalow. She had it in her head she wanted to help me be independent and was not wanting me to rely on her as she was worried that i would be stuck if something happened to her. She taught me the way of the world and I am strong and the person I am today thanks to her. I then took on a food course that I would do once Jacob was asleep, I studied hard and got all my food safety and hygiene certificates. Just 3 months ago I took a leap and started my own baking business. I brought a stall pass from Lanzarote committee and managed to get a stall in the high street. I then had someone come out to check my kitchen and give me an hygiene rating and I haven't looked back since. I make cakes, scones, shortbread and cookies for the stall and then celebration cakes. I just finished the stall display when I see an old gentleman walking my way. "Good Morning Harold" I said smiling. "Morning lass, I have come for my usual" He smiled. I get a paper bag smiling as I grab 2 shortbread, 2 teacakes and 2 large white chocolate chip cookies. "How is Joan today Harold?" I ask as he passes me his money. "Much better, she seems to be moving about now, hopefully no more falls again for a while" He said showing me a nice smile. "Send her my love, I have popped in an extra cookie" I smiled, as I pass him the goods. We say our goodbyes and as I see him walk in the distance I see Sarah walking up to the stall. "Oh you look rough!" I said to her as she walks up with yesterdays clothes and makeup on. "I feel it!....but I pulled a very handsome man!" She smiled, squinting from a headache perhaps. I always find her stories very crazy, we are the same age and at 21 she is partying most nights and I am looking after my Jacob and I would not change that. I serve a lady and then look around to see Sarah sit on the chair and help herself to a victoria sponge cake. "tut!" I roll my eyes and laugh her. I serve a few more customers as I listen to all the details about what Sarah got up to last night she had me howling and then cringing. I hear a gasp as she ducks down behind my stall. "Sarah?!" I said as I look around to see what caught her eye. I saw six men walking down the high street looking around and laughing to themselves. They are tourists, I have never seen them before and they are very good looking with all there shirts undone and abs out. I look down at Sarah "Really?!....which one?" I asked her realising that she was with one of these men last night. She peaked around the table. "Blue shorts" She whispered. I looked at the men a little long and then decided to get back to work taking a peek at a hidden Sarah as I giggle. "s**t they are coming over!" she whispered hiding further. "OOOO yum...what shall we get lads" The boy in blue shorts said as he walked over looking at my baked goods. The other men followed him and I smiled welcoming them to my stall. "Did you bake these?" One of the men asked me. "Yes..." I said, Shyly. "They look banging" He said, with a british accent. "Thank you!" I said politely. I caught the eyes of his friend, he was very handsome but a little older than the rest, he had more of a step back attitude and stared back at me. I looked own at his grey shorts and then back up to his face, his stare made me blush and I have never felt that before. I have no interest in men ever since what happened with me in the past. The guy in blue pulled me back in reality when he dropped money on the floor, he bent down to pick it up and saw Sarah. "Erm hi!, what you doin here?" He said and I looked at a flustered Sara now standing up "Oh I lost my ring and was looking for it" Sarah said, quickly. "Do you need help" He asked now looking around the floor. "No...it's fine, it's old, no worries" She said quickly with a nervous smile. I started serving there other friend with a smile as I listened in to their small talk. The whole time I could feel two piercing eyes looking at me from the corner of my eye, what is his deal. "This is my best friend Chloe, Chloe this is Ryan" Sarah said as she introduced us. I smiled at them and gave them a shy wave. They were all looking to buy something and then, I looked to see the handsome man with grey shorts come up and ask for two iced buns. "Sure, anything else?" I said, politely. "Do you do milkshakes?" He asked, now looking at me with huge intense blue eyes. I stuttered "N...No sorry" "Okay, I will have a cinnamon cookie" He added. "Okay, thank you for your purchase" I said to him. He exchanged payment and I smiled at him as I passed him his baked goods. I felt so flustered and I couldn't help my eyes wonder over his body, I snapped out of it and my eyes met his face where he shown no emotion. I quickly looked down and started to move things around on my stall to keep my eyes busy from staring. "Why don't you both join us on our yacht tomorrow night we are having a party?" Ryan had said to Sarah. "Omg that would be amazing!" Sarah squealed excited. "Erm....thank you but I cant sorry" I said quickly. I looked over to see the man in grey shorts look confused like he was wondering why I said no. I then feel suddenly protective of Sarah. "Sarah a word" I said quickly. She smiled at the men and then gave me a look of death "What?" "Six men......that you don't know on a Yacht are you crazy!? I whispered. "I hung with them last night believe me they are fine if you don't come that's fine i will still go!" She smiled, excitedly. "You cant go on your own...what if they take advantage" I whispered and hid my face so they couldn't see me speak. "Chlo..you need to live a little" She said with a sweet face. "I have responsibilities, I cant just take risks" I said as she then nodded giving me a hug before walking back to the men. "I will be available, let me now what time to go to the harbour" Sarah said. "Sweet...your friend coming?" Ryan asked her. "She cant come, sorry" Sara added. I gave a small awkward sorry smile. "Well bring more friends more the merrier!" He said before saying goodbyes and leaving. "Sooner or later Chlo, you have to get over the past and start dating a living?" Sarah said stroking my arm. I closed my eyes for a moment....its not that simple. It will never be that simple.
