The responding silence felt like a challenge — thick, wary, charged. I could feel it ripple through the Pack as shoulders squared and scents sharpened. Instincts were warring with disbelief.
The Pack was stunned for the moment. An unknown human stepped in with a summary sheet and solved their biggest problem. I had to ensure that skepticism didn’t have a chance to resurface. I took a step forward, placing a hand on Tess’s shoulder. The contact steadied the wolf instantly. The restless pressure beneath my skin eased as the bond locked into place.
“Ms. Beaumont’s findings are accurate, and show the fatal flaw of Kayvan’s strategy. Leon. Can this be executed?”
He gave a slight nod of his head. “The analysis is sound, Alpha. The short-sell is aggressive, but entirely legal within the current market structure. It’s a clean kill.” His mouth curved faintly with the confirmation. “They won’t even feel it coming.”
“This plan is the Luna’s Mandate,” I continued, announcing Tess’s position within the Pack. “It is the first step in reclaiming the territory encroached upon by the Steelclaw Pack.”
There were more murmurs amongst the Pack members — instinctive and uneasy. A few heads dipped without conscious thought. Others stiffened, fighting it. Then, Alaric, my father’s retired Beta and Leon’s father, spoke up. “Luna? Forgive me for questioning your decision, but do you think it wise to bring an unknown human into the Pack and then declare her Luna immediately?”
“I trust her completely. The Mate Bond presented itself the very moment I saw her. Her immediate willingness to assist in taking down Kayvan and his Pack only solidify this. Her intelligence is a weapon we lacked. We proceed with the Luna’s strategy, without question.”
“My apologies, Alpha, I didn’t mean to offend,” Alaric questions. “Please forgive further questions, but…the rest of the Pack will not accept her without a Mateship Ceremony, witnessed and bound.”
“We will handle that when the time comes,” I reassured him. I met his gaze and let the full authority of the Alpha wash over him, thick with command. Alaric’s shoulders dipped a fraction before he caught himself. “Right now, putting an end to the Steelclaw Pack is the single-most important task facing us.”
I focused my attention back on the entirety of the table, shifting onto tactile execution mode. “Alaric, your team will prepare the paperwork required to clear the regulatory path for a massive short-sell. I want a strategy for neutralizing any potential counter-suits within the hour.”
I pointed to Francine, the head of the financial division. “You will prepare the instruments for the financial strike. The margin call must be timed precisely to coincide with the most vulnerable point of the loan’s collateral. I want daily updates on Apex Land Ventures’ internal trading activity. This cannot leak.”
My focus returned to Leon, “You will coordinate both divisions. The target is the loan’s stability. We hit them financially, forcing them into a defensive spiral. He won’t even know he’s at war until his entire financial foundation crumbles. This strategy is confidential. No mention of it leaves this room. Apex will believe this is simply a market reaction. Report only to Leon and me. Meeting adjourned.”
As the Pack members filed out, Leon lingered, giving Tess a final, appreciative glance. He bowed his head slightly before exiting. “You delivered perfectly,” I told her, gently taking her arm to lead her away from the table. “Now, the next part of the contract is due.”
I allowed a flicker of vulnerability to show as I looked at her. I couldn’t help but beam with pride and gratitude. “You just won us a war before breakfast. You are formidable.” As the words left my mouth, the wolf purred beneath them, proud.
Tess’s exhaustion was clear, her eyelids heavy. A small smile formed on her lips though, and she nodded slightly. “It’s just numbers, Darian. Now, about that rest.”
I smiled, taking her papers from her. The burden of work was now mine. I guided her to the elevator, “Let’s go, Luna. The war has begun, but your work is finished for the day.”
