CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO

789 Words
YARA There is a total of eight people here in the tent, fine of is are students of the school and the others were town locals. I exchanged pleasantries with them and decided to take care of the gift bag session because there was nobody there handling that. It feels as though everyone went for the easier session. I barely know the people in my tent, but I do know them by their first names. I couldn't figure out what item went where, and when I tried to ask for help, it seemed as though nobody knew either. My face fell completely, I had hoped this would start easy, and everything said about this tent would be just an unnecessary myth, but it's not. I do not feel a sense of teamwork, everyone is on their path doing little or nothing. The helpers look clueless. I tried to do it and keep up with my assignment as fast as I could, but it went south when I kept getting distracted by squeaky giggles. What is that? I raised my head to look at where the giggles came from, and to no surprise, it was him! Seated close to Sara and Dalia with his smooth smirks! Why is he in this tent too? It's painful being here already. I do not have to see him too. Nothing he's saying is funny, why won't the giggling stop. Arghhh I can't handle this. No good work and all I get are giggles, I put my palms on my head trying to stop myself from complaining. “Okay!, guys we need a team plan!” I screamed, I closed my eyes to try to calm down, I can't lose my temper, I'm going to sort this out and be good. I took a deep breath and flipped my eyes right open, “We can’t finish these tasks if we keep acting like we’ve got all day! Cause we don’t!” I said with my teeth gritting. The whole tent went cold in silence, I could feel their stare piercing my skin. I tried to keep my cool but I couldn't. Even though this tent is usually the last tent to be filled, I can't allow the work here to continue like that. So I laid my hair down, tried to fake a smile, and continued “Okay, now that I have your attention, as the team leader I have made a work plan to help us finish up this work as fast and easy as we can.” I heard him cough from behind. I know he doesn't have a cold, so I try to not think about it. I looked around to see them all looking at me so attentively. ‘Thank you mother luna, at least they listen.’ “ so, since it's five of us here and 3 volunteers, I figured we can group ourselves in a group of two for the four sessions.” I took out the organization paper and read out the sessions and what group will be handling it. “So we have the clothing arrangement section, the products sections, the sorting section, and of course the gift packing section” I paused to look up at them. “Uhmmm. I'll suggest staying with the products here, I am pretty good at it” Dalia said quite confidently “and I will stick with arranging too” Adnan indicated. “ I will sort out that pile,” Sara said. It seems like my work has been cut out for me. I smile so widely. The volunteers decided what section to stick with and all was well. I began to feel very optimistic about today again. “Okay, guys! I think we got this all figured out. I of course will stick to packing and giving out the care packs.” I smiled. “Okay, everyone! Let's do this” I clapped as I went to sit back down at my station. “Wait! What do I do?” he stormed. I had forgotten about him, everyone was talking about what they could do and I forgot totally about what he could do. “well uhmm Asad, you can just fix yourself where is available, groups of two remember?” then it hit me. All three volunteers went with Adnan, Sara, and Dalia. The only spot left is with me! But I can't work with Asad! I can't!. I sat down aware of my stupid poor planning and hoped he would object. But he didn't, I must confess I was shocked he didn't, but I tried to not let it bother me. So I simply sat there and got working as he approached sit right next to me.
