Chapter 1
Mia knelt in front of her Aunt with tears streaming down her eyes her head bowed against her aunt’s feet.
“I can't get married to him, Aunt. I want to further my education, build a career, travel the world, and explore she said with tears in her eyes and sorrow in her heart.
Mrs. Lillian stood there, her face so firm as she listened to her outburst passively. With the look in her eyes, she didn't budge.
“Mia! You will marry Mr. Blake and that is final! Your wedding is set in stone. You are being very selfish, Mia. This isn't just about you, it's about our family, your cousin Vicky is in the hospital!” she yelled while gazing at Mia.
Mia raised her head. “I'm not a commodity to be sold Aunt. I have feelings and emotions too. I am human!” she said. I have rights you know.
Mrs. Lilian looked at her and grabbed her by her hair.
“ Is it because of that good-for-nothing boy? Someone who can't take care of you or anything that has to do with you?”
Mia stared at her. “You won't end up like your mum, I will make sure of that! I won't watch you ruin your life just like her, not again!
“It's my life just as you said, let me ruin it,” she said as she sobbed bitterly.
Lilian looked at her in despair. “ After all I have done for you, I took you in as my own when no one wanted you, fed you, clothed you and this is how you repay me, Mia?”
Mia was beyond reasoning. She had always been a dutiful daughter, but she drew the
line this time. She couldn't sacrifice her happiness for the sake of family duty.
"I don't care! I won't do it, and I won't marry someone I don't love just because it's convenient for you," she screamed, her voice breaking.
“Mia listen to me, I and Mr. Blake have concluded and he has sent the money for Vicky’s Surgery... There is no going back. This is for your good and the interest of us all”. She said firmly and leaves the hospital.
Mia stood there lost in her thought, tears rolling down her cheeks. “So this is how my life would be, people making decisions for me here and there. Now I have to get married to a man old enough to be my dad, someone I barely know”.
Lilian walks into a car, shuts the door, and turns to the back seat of the car.
A handsome man was sitting behind him, he lifted his green eyes from his laptop and looked at Lilian. His eyes were icy cold; his one look was enough to give someone a severe heart attack.
Lilian felt his sharp gaze; she felt very nervous.
Sir, Miss Mia said she needed some time to think.
about it."
“That’s good, when’s your daughter's surgery scheduled?” He asked with a weary smile.
“It's scheduled for Monday sir,” she said while looking down.
The handsome man gave her a wintry smile.
"Make all the preparations for tomorrow. She
will say yes."
Even if Mia wanted to refuse, she could not. He was a legendary man in the city of Miami. Everyone had always regarded him as a male god in this city. In Miami, everyone knows how heartless he could be if anyone dared to challenge him.
If he wanted to own something, nothing could stop him. So now he wants to marry her. How could she escape from him?
He was the man who could make anyone fall into his trap and this time Lilian had fallen but Mia was the one to be with him. She is just a little girl who had no idea what he wanted from her.
“Alright Lilian, you are now the head of staff at the mansion, the money has been sent to you and the house behind the plantation is yours,” he said while pulling out some documents and keys to the house.
Her heart leaped for joy as she collected the items and bent towards him in appreciation.
“Thank you so much sir, I am grateful sir,” she said as he signaled her to get up.
She gets out of the car, stops a taxi, and heads straight to the bank to make payment for Vicky’s upcoming surgery.
Mia bites her lower lip and hovers around the hospital as she gets a text message from her aunt.
“Leave Vicky in the hospital, I am on my way back, go home, park a few of your essential belongings. Blake’s driver will come to pick you up by 9 am. Have a good night's rest. Do not ask any questions, just do as I say!”
She falls to the ground in pain and rage. “I comprehend she never liked me, she made it clear to me right from the onset, but then I owe her my life”.
She heads home and the thought of her getting married to a stranger fills her heart, but she's left with no choice but to abide by what her aunt wants.
She got into the shower to cool off from what had been going on, as the drops of water splashed on her, dropping from her head down to her toes. She tried to encourage herself.
“There’s absolutely nothing I can do about this than to accept this marriage... They're not asking but selling me to a ruthless man”. She said to herself while looking at herself in the mirror.
She places her hand on her chest. “Mia, you got this... This is for Vicky, Lilian, and me. I wish it was this simple,” she said as she dressed up and she decided to meditate.
In a luxurious VIP ballroom, a welcome party and engagement preparation was going on, Mr. Blake walked into the ballroom and signaled one of the workers to get the supervisor to meet him in his home office.
A man walks onto Mr. Blake’s office “Hello sir, you sent for me” he said curiously.
Blake raised his head. “Yes I did, making sure the media were here by noon and preventing any mistake at all costs. You can leave”, he said firmly.
“Yes sir,” he said and vacated.
